Just a follow up to this. I have solved the problem by Setting "USB S3 Wake-up" to "Enabled" in BIOS. Since I did this, there are no issues on wake up from sleep.

I have no clue. I assumed it was something to do with going to sleep with USB peripherals attached....

Since I switched 'USB S3 Wake-up' to enabled, the USB is providing power even when the laptop is in sleep. Not ideal...

That does make sense though, if the plugged item is still drawing power then battery life reduces. If I'm not mistaken this is common for some other laptop manufacturers.

If you open easy settings the first option it gives you is to 'enable USB charging'. Set this to NO if you don't want the USB to charge when in idle.

Hi. Thanks for that. I checked that setting before and after changing the "USB S3 wakeup" in BIOS. At all times it has been set to NO. It seems that the BIOS setting overrides (or conflicts with) the Easy Settings.

Last night, I reset the BIOS to disabled. I will work around this whole thing for the moment, by switching the auto sleep off when plugged in.

Try to figure out what is creating the heat. What CPU utilisation is shown on Task Manager's processes tab which also shows the CPU usage of each process? On idle you should be around 1%.

Install and run HWiNFO32 and there's a nice graph of CPU speed. It should be on 800MHz when the computer is on idle.

You should perhaps add a link to the thread about touchpad not "working" right after you have typed. Seems more people have issues with this and could use the knowledge about the registry hack.

    Hello everyone,

This is my first post here. I have some serious problems with my cpu. When I enable "power saving mode cpu" in bios my speed of the cpu in idle is
    800Mhz, Multiplier 8.0, Busspeed 99.8.

Then on load my cpu speed is
    1197Mhz, multiplier 12.0 and Busspeed 99.8.

When I disable "power saving mode cpu" the speed in idle is the same and in load the cpu works on the correct frequency. But the problem here is that it only last for a couple of hours. Suddenly the cpu don't step to a higher frequency anymore.

Is it probably a hardware or a software issue?

    Thanks

I always leave the CPU on the Performance on Demand setting, even when on battery. The theory being that if the CPU can do its work as quickly as possible then the system can go back to sleep.

Does Performance on Demand give you the expected CPU behaviour?

I think this is a Flash related problem. Try right clicking on the video, click something like Options/Properties, in one of the tabs, there's an option to turn on and off hardware acceleration. Experiment with that option.

Did you install any programmes that uses the Ring 0 driver? Sometimes GPU Observer, Intel Core Series can cause Turbo Boost to stop working and result in the processor throttling.

Right click on your desktop, you should see Configure Switchable Graphics. Follow the instructions on screen to select the appropriate GPU.

It still shows only a list of running apps and high performance / power saving options for each of them . Like it was before.

Does this mean I have not installed it properly ?

I finally found the problem. I explored power management and I discovered that my cpu was configured only using 50 % off his capacity. So I set this to 100 and now it's working perfectly.

I noticed also that there's an option to cool the cpu passive. Is this dangerous on load at 2,7 Ghz?

Passive cooling probably means less use of the fan and slightly higher CPU temperatures under light usage. I suspect that once the CPU temperature gets quite high (perhaps over 80C) then the fan will work as normal. Even if it does not, the CPU will start to reduce its speed ("throttling") once it reaches 95C. The CPU speed display in HWiNFO32 shows if this is occuring.

Still lurking, still trying to decide what do do with this laptop. Really like it but the issues really worry me. I know it is just gueswork but has anyone had any real response about whether any of the main issues are going to be resolved - opengl auto switching, screen quality, wifi strength etc.
As I've said before I'm also very suspicious that this model is going to be discontinued/replaced. ANyone have any concrete news? I read a while back about Best buy sending theirs back. Further to my previous comments John Lewis in the UK have pulled both the i5 and i7 models off their website. And my email to Samsung support asking about model availabilities has been ominously ignored for 2 weeks now.
Has anyone any concrete news on what is happening with this. The only positive at the moment is amazon seem to have it back in stock, but whether it is new stock or customer returns I dont know.
Sorry if I appear negative. This laptop is exactly what I want, but I think these issues would bug me if they weren't fixed.

Hi @all. I'm new to this forum. First time Samsung laptop buyer.
My Lenovo t61 had the"nvidia bug" and after Leovo's rejection on replacement (warranty was over) i bought the Samsung NP700Z5a.

Despite the problems with OpenGL I'm having another one with the F12 (WiFi) key.

F12 key is always lit. Regardless of WiFi off/on.
There is just one settings which makes it go off --> switching to ECO Mode in Easy Settings - Power Management.

I took some pictures of this wrong "light" behavior. (See attachments)

    1st one:
WiFi off / ECO Mode off

    2nd:
WiFi off / ECO Mode on

    3rd:
Windows boot (F12 light is on)

Comparing F12 keys behavior to F6 (Mute) key:
As F6 (Mute) is also having an indicator light (muted / not muted) its light goes on when the volume is muted and off when it is unmuted, regardless of the power scheme chosen and regardless of ECO Mode on/off.

This is imho the expected behavior also for F12 (WiFi) key.

I'd like you owners to check if F12 light behaves just like mine or if it goes off when WiFi is turned off.

Remember: For this test you need to turn ECO Mode off in Easy Settings - Power Management

The light isn't just for WiFi its for Bluetooth as well. You need to switch both off to switch off the light.

After reading everything... all things considered... is this a recommended buy? i would be watching 1080p movies (on MPC-HC) by myself, a little Hulu but nt much, alot of netflix streaming, and browsing the web.
I considered the Envy 15... 1080p and beats are nice but i dont wanna lug 6+ around allday and everytime i look at it, makes me wanna get a MBP. I also considered the MSI x460DX (about an inch, nice battery, but 1366x768 screen). And finally the Compal PBL21 (1080p but something about it i dont like).

You be the judge. Read through the threads and see if you can live with the issues mentioned. If you feel you can, then you can proceed to buy.

lol...tbh Luterin posts made me reconsider the SS7 again. i already checked out the display (fine with it i hope). i dnt think i use alot of programs that use opengl. the wifi thing is new to me but i got a cpl wifi cards laying around so i can always try something different. Flash crashing might be a concern but since i stream netflix more than anything, i dnt think it would be a prob since they use silverlight. My last concern is how does a 1080p movie look like scaled down on a 1600x900 screen in fullscreen mode?

I'm not sure how scaling works for Sliver-light, but for Adobe Flash videos it scales pretty badly jarred edges and seemingly blurrier. Flash crashing is actually occasional, so save your work before watching the videos. ;)

The wifi is not a big issue. Unsatisfied? You can easily change it.

The screen, once calibrated is actually fine. There is an ICC profile in the ICC thread. Viewing angles ain't great but most laptops' screens are similarly bad.

If you play games, do check if the games work on the AMD auto switch online.

Luterin, see, your post makes him reconsider. Not mine, haha.

Yeah, so if I wouldn't have posted he would have stayed away from it, just like who know how many else. And that's the whole point of my points, to balance up your negativity about the machine so people give it a shot and consider it instead of just ignoring it right away.
