I am using a Mushkin MKNSSDCR480GB SSD drive in a Samsung 350E7C Laptop.

The drive is working fine except that if I leave the laptop switched off for several hours when I switch it on again it goes straight into the BIOS screen where it shows no HDD is installed. Exit the BIOS screen (using F10) and immediately reboot then all is well and the machine boots as it should, I can switch off and on again without any issues until the laptop is left switched off for a few hours i.e overnight (maybe it does not like the chilly room during the night).

I have tried on two identical laptops with same result. What do you good and knowledgeable people think, a bad SSD drive or bios incompatibility ( i have flashed to latest firmware).

I wonder if it's a power management issue with the SSD not waking up and reporting for duty quickly enough.

If the BIOS has the Samsung Fast Boot option try disabling it - you need to distract the BIOS for a second while the SSD puts its boots on.

I have tried every setting in the BIOS to no avail. I think the assumption that the SSD is not waking up fast enough is a distinct possibility.

I am now in the awkward situation of requesting an RMA for the Mushkin drive and very likely getting charged because they can find no fault with it.

Does your Series 3 have the Samsung Fast Start / Fast Boot option in the BIOS? If so, disable it.

I would also suggest you first contact Mushkin support before trying to return the drive.

Fastboot was disabled in the BIOS. At your suggestion I contacted Mushkin support and a replacement drive is being arranged.

I wait with baited breath to see if it cures the problem.

Having contacted Mushkin support, a new drive was received and all is now well I am glad to say. Excellent support from Mushkin in my opinion.
