yeah, he just responded telling me that he has the official date now. Seems like good news but kinda mad that we can't get it sooner like the rep @ ces told me.

I'm going to go ahead a pre-order from dynamism since it seem like they have good communications.

    is WiMAX worth it?

It just seems like paying more for a WiMAX enabled card ... then having to pay for the service. Does anyone know how fast this service is spreading and what the prices are like?

It all depends how much you travel and if free wifi is available or not at your locations. If you don't have much wifi coverage then It's worth looking into wimax.

For $100 more it's not worth it to me since I already have win7 pro and I have wifi coverage at all my locations.

Don't travel now ... but there are possibilities. Anyone know whether or not it'd be easy to switch the internal card if WiMAX becomes a viable solution?

One issue with WiMax is the fact that indoors, and between building reception can drop(lower) because it the spectrum it uses makes it harder to pass a signal through walls. Plus, its only being used in like 3 other countries besides the U.S. so that limits where you can use it. I personally don't think it is worth it because of this.

I agree and trust me sitting by the window just to get a nice clear signal really sucks from what I have notice with my cousins clear wire connection.

I am really, really looking forward to the 9 series. End of march sounds great to me!

I'm going to pair this lappy with my new smartphone (Galaxy S 2 -- when it arrives) to make a very potent combo. I'm not so sold on the WiMax, due to relatively little coverage.

To me it seems that Dynamism had the best price with at least a posted ETA for shipment. They responded right away when I sent them an e-mail. All other sites are asking for more.

    Dynamism, Inc
    Samsung 9 Series [NP900X3A-A03US]
    (13.3" Wide LED, Intel Core i5 2537M 1.4 GHz, 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium)
Total$1,632.01 (includes Shipping and Handling - FedEx Express Saver @ $33.01)

What I don't understand is what happen to the i7 processor and the 256GB solid state options?

Attach is the picture of the label I took @ CES.

What's the resolution in this laptop? I'm going to wait till May before making a decision. That's when the competitor to this and the MBA from Lenovo releases, the X1.

Thanks for the vids. One concern I am having about this laptop is battery life. With the Vaio S and the new Thinkpads, we are seeing some insane battery life potential through larger batteries and sheet options and that doesnt seem to be the case with the Samsung 9. The claimed 6.5 hour life is probably a bit high, but I guess time will tell when we have a proper review.

Amtbr, the Russian reviews linked in the forum have battery tests, and they seem to last pretty well, 6+ hours with normal use.

"Lithium-polymer battery capacity of 48 WHr rigidly built into the laptop case. Время автономной работы составило 2 часа 23 минуты в режиме максимальной нагрузки (Battery Eater Classic). Battery life was 2 hours 23 minutes at maximum load (Battery Eater Classic). При моём обычном использовании (офис/интернет/обработка изображений/прослушивание музыки в iTunes) ноутбук проработал 5 часов 59 минут — отличный результат для столь компактного и мощного устройства. With my normal usage (office / internet / image processing / listening to music in iTunes) laptop worked for 5 hours and 59 minutes - an excellent result for such a compact and powerful device."

"As a result, the autonomy was 2 hours and 20 minutes at maximum load and 6 hours and 40 minutes of reading, which is pretty good for a device with a similar performance."

just found out that dynamism.com change the Estimated Ship Time to Shipment expected March 28th. So much for the heads up. I'm starting to slowly think that I should just pull out now.

I want the i7 core option w/ 256 solid state. Can't believe it's not available but it was advertise at CES with this option.

    Rep for you!

This is seriously good news. 6+ hours is a great length of time for light work! Thankfully, the built in battery is lithium polymer so it won't wear as fast as traditional lithium ions.

With a small external battery pack, this laptop could go a solid 18 hours.

After translating both reviews, I am pretty skeptical about this laptop. The reviewers didn't seem that impressed by the buttonless touchpad and given most laptop manufacturers lack of success with this design, I doubt Samsung's will be any different. They also didn't make much of a fuss over the supposedly 400nit wide color gamut screen. There was also a mention of constant heat and fan noise, which given the dimensions of the laptop aren't surprising.

An external pack would be nice, but since Samsung hasn't mentioned anything, doubt that will happen...

My guess, this laptop premiers for $1600, gets panned in reviews for its flaws and drops in price quickly.

I want to like this thing, I really do, but my guess is it will be flawed just as the Adamo from Dell. Unless it gets stellar reviews, there is no way I could justify to myself spending $1600 on a laptop with so many issues.

    Fail.

Small, light and portable is nice, but not if it burns your thighs and sounds like a jet engine.

Oh well, back to the drawing board :)

Who's the reviewer? It seems hasty to make a decision about the merits of the laptop based on an obscure Russian review.

I think it would be prudent to wait for more reviews before drawing conclusions.

There's no need for Samsung to officiate a battery pack, these things are universal these days.

More reviews will be coming soon, at which point we'll have a better idea of its future.

Here's something odd written on the Official Series 9 design page:

Series 9 Notebook: Inspired by Design | Samsung Articles & Insights

What is this 3D image sensor that they are talking about? Is this anything like XBox kinect? Since this is in the keyboard description, can gestures be performed outside of the touchpad? Very curious....

I know, but neither of these reviews inspire much confidence. I will wait for a proper english review before passing complete judgment. I think one of the most glaring problems with this laptop will be the heat dissipation, nothing on Samsung's promotional materials has mentioned any revolutionary design to remove heat. While SB does generate less heat, lets not be naive and think it runs that much cooler, all that hot air has to go somewhere. The cooling fans on this thing must be small and small fans = noise.

It also seems like a huge finger print magnet. The reviewers mention how difficult it is to clean and looking at those CES pictures, the laptop looks filthy.

But time will tell, hopefully Samsung will prove my skepticism wrong.

    buydig = 30 days eta
    beach camera = 3 weeks

I'll stick with dynamism.com for now unless something changes. Not sure why samsung would put in stock but yet the retailers dont have anything.

It seems that the MBA also suffers from high temps, though the fan is supposed to be quiet -- or off, which could be a bad thing.

Perhaps this is the price paid for a thin laptop with an x86 CPU. I'm looking forward to ARM pushing into the laptop space.

What's very interesting about this laptop is that it doesn't seem to sleep, instead it hibernates! Because the SSD is so quick, it will actually power off completely and power back on in only 3 seconds!

This is a very neat side effect of the high speed components, and should save even more battery life when using the device!

I've not read any reputable reports of the Macbook Air suffering from unusually high operating temperatures. I really don't think it's an inevitable consequence of designing a laptop of this size.

Earlier for the 11"? Either the blogs or Dynamism has it wrong.

    "
    Hello,

Thank you for your recent order with Dynamism for the Samsung 9 Series laptop.

We’ve been working with the manufacturer, and the latest updated ship date is now expected to be March 22nd for the 11” model. We’ll let you know if there are any further updates between now and then, but please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you in the meantime.

    Best regards,

I have been waiting to get this computer since I first heard about it in Jan related to CES. I am hoping that is has the build and dimensions of the MBA, but with windows 7 (which is the OS I happen to happily use). I know that it is quite expensive; however, I am fortunate enough to be able to afford it.

That said, I am amazed at how most manufacturers release these products (compared with Apple, for example). This computer was first announced months ago with little idea of when it would actually be purchasable (is that a word?). Now multiple sites say that it will be released today, yet clearly it is only announced for offical preorder (when other sites have had it for preorder for weeks). No one actually still knows when anyone will actually be able to buy one in a store or order one for delivery the next day. At least Apple tells you when you can actually attempt to get something they are selling (to the day).

Way too many models. Saw the Series 9 and its thin but its more along the lines of a Mac Book Air competitor and I want something inbetween the MacBook Air/Pro competition with built in optical drive.
