Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else has been having a Samsung ATIV 9 HDMI problem? This is with the standard port, not the micro (clarifying as I've seen a lot of threads about that port) and the NP940X5J-K02US model.
It seems to be related to Windows Update, as it has been working intermittently with the updates / restarting the laptop. Using Intel Update, Samsung (SW) Update, and Windows Update have not helped and Samsung's customer support is insisting it must be a hardware problem and I should take it in for repairs (which I'd have to pay for).
I solved this in the past very briefly when I was using Windows 8 and leveraged System Restore - but that does not seem to be working this time around. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If anyone happens across this problem -
I went into Device Manager and just uninstalled all my graphic drivers. Felt risky...but at this point I was just playing around with my options. After I uninstalled the Intel driver, the system went back to the default and detected the HDMI cable.
It should be noted that I tried to simply switch to the 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' prior, and this did not help. For whatever reason, the Intel driver had to be completely uninstalled
Also worth noting is that I disabled Windows Update from updating any drivers on my system. I will be relying on updates directly from Intel and Samsung going forward (or at least until I start troubleshooting again).

Well done fixing the problem, and thank you for posting your findings.
I am curious: You said the problem wasn't with the Micro-HDMI port. My understanding is that this model has a standard Micro-HDMI port as well as the old proprietary Samsung mini-VGA (which requires a special dongle) -- but no full-size HDMI. Which port was it that caused this problem?
The following image is from Samsung's NP940X3K-K02US spec page.

Hi Dannemand,
How embarrassing - I have a slightly different model - the NP940 X5J-K02US. I crankily posted that after my frustrating chat with Samsung at 2AM so I was clearly not being careful. I definitely gave the right model number and did my search with the right model, so at least I didn't run in the wrong direction for too long!
I mistook the Wired LAN Port for the micro-HDMI due to the shape (I have a microHDMI port on my tablet). Sorry about that!!! -
Got it, no problem. That explains it. And I see that you updated the model number in your opening post as well

Hello,
i have a problem with connecting my samsung ativ notebook to my external monitor with HDMI (micro).
This problem has occured since a week. I bought the laptop with windows 8, but currently using windows 10 (since 6 months).
Does anyone have any idea?
It seems to be a driver issue... with the Radeon HD 8250 AMD.
Device manager says that there is a problem with graphic drivers.....Microsoft Basic Display Adapter (No ACPI support). I tried to delete it, but after that it still did not work.
Please help me! -

Are you using the drivers / software provided by Samsung Update (previously SW Update) including the Samsung Settings program?
They might be better debugged to work on this notebook than whatever is provided by Windows 10.
John -
Yes I think so, this program does not show any new updates..
They are showing in Samsung Update on ''all software'', means I am using it right?
I regularly update the software here. -

Windows 10 has broken things on various computers by installing newer drivers that are not completely compatible. And these updates are a near-continuous process.
The first thing to try is rolling back your graphics driver either in Device Manager of going to Windows 10 Settings > Updates > Advanced > Update History. If that doesn't work try uninstalling other updates from just before the time when the HDMI output stopped working. If that doesn't work then reinstall the drivers offered by Samsung Update. Probably not just graphics but also chipset and audio.

Thank you for your response.
I tried to roll back graphic driver, you mean to turn off right? I also deleted it, but none of it worked.
I uninstalled one update, but it still did not work.
How can I reinstall the drivers in Samsung Update? I tried to do that, but it seems that there are no options?
Thanks -

If you use the find model function in Samsung update then you can find your notebook and download all the drivers and software. You then have control over their installation.
The chipset and audio drivers and the Samsung Settings program might also affect how the HDMI behaves.

I did this now. I see the option to save software. Do you know where I can finf new software to download and import? I cannot see how to delete drivers? I can only download. -

You can uninstall drivers by uninstalling the program which installed the driver using Programs and Features in Control Panel. Then do a reboot before installing the replacement driver.
