I'm creating this thread to try to bring the various snippets of Samsung product news into one place.

Let's start with Andrew's reports from Cebit 2007:

    M60 and Q45, R20, R70, G15 & M55

The R20 isn't hot news to the people who have already bought one. See the R20 thread for details.

Next we can have the Cebit 2007 microsite at samsung.com.

In case this disappears before long, I attach a PDF for the press release which covers the Q45, R20 and R70. It seems that the Q45 (which has many similarities to the Q35) retains the PCMICA slot, while the R70 doesn't mention the slot type.

Hey I'm wondering what do you think the price of the M60 would be? I mean I want a computer that has a DX10 so I can run Crysis but I don't wanna run it on high settings. The M60 poses as a very promising computer I wonder when it'll be available

    Hello everybody,

CeBIT is this year amazing again - but an absolute highlight is the Samsung corner. It's that big!

More important, Samsung introduces again new models:

    Aura Series Q45, R20 and R70
Diamond black elegance! My first impression was that they are Think Pads by Samsung. They look very robust and business-like.

    R20-T7200 Deva
Black magic! A very stylish notebook with 2 GHz Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD and Radeon Express X1250. Battery lasts only for two hours. Brand new Vista Home Premium operating system!
Pricing: 1249 EUR, availabilty: Friday, 23 March.

    Q40-Pro U1400 Silver
It's running and running and running! This subnotebook weighs only 1100 grams (about 2.45 lbs) and has enough battery power for nine hours pure work! Integrated HSDPA - You only need to insert you SIM card directly into the notebook. The Q40 has a silver magnesium finishing and comes with Windows XP Pro.
    Pricing: 1699 EUR, already available.

    Q1 Ultra Edition
The next generation of ultra mobile computers! Finally, it's possible to take this product type serious. Very convient are the key on the left and the right side of the display, the screen is a touchscreen and it comes with a video camera and a 3 megapixel photo camera. This product competes with handhelds like Palms.
    Pricing: about 1000 EUR

    Photo Frame
Futuristic! It's a 7" computer with Ethernet port, USB and reader for SD/MMC and CF memory cards. A very nice gadget for presenting you favourite photos and even videos.
    Pricing: about 250 EUR

I hope you are informed now about the new trends from the CeBIT 2007.

Looks like the R40 has been updated according to DigiUK. This model is shown as having the ATI Radeon 1250M graphics (same as on R20 and over 4 x faster than the Intel 845/850). Also the HDD has increased to 120GB. Also of significance is that this R40 still comes with XP Pro. Are they aiming at the business sector?

I wonder if the older R40s (T2xxx or Celeron CPUs) are being phased out. This new model has a bit of a price premium and if one of the older models fits your requirements, grab one before they all disappear.

****Edit**** Another R40 version NP-R40X000/SUK, with Vista, is being listed by Dabs. This has the T2060 CPU.

As reported in the NBR news, Samsung are bringing out some new 2.5" hard disks.

First up is the M5 series with up to 160GB on a single platter and 5400RPM.
Unfortunately it seems that we will have to wait a little for the 2 platter version with up to 250GB. More details here.

Second up is the MP1 series spinning at 7200RPM and capacity up to 200GB.
    More details here.

Past experience suggests that Samsung do not pre-announce these products a long time ahead of production. Their announcement about the existing 160GB (2 platter) HDD is dated 1st September 2006 and I bought one on 6th November.

Not particularly laptop related but if you want a massive monitor to hook your notebook up to then Samsung have just announced two new SyncMaster monitors that weigh in at 24" and 27" with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,200. The larger model has a high (for a monitor) contrast ratio of 3000:1 whilst the 24" has to slum it with 1000:1.

Both of the monitors should rear their heads in Q3 '07.

It looks like some of the new models announced at CeBIT are getting imminent. Looks like Samsung are planning to have some new hardware ready for the May Santa Rosa launch.

Follow this link to browse through what is posted for the Q45 at the Samsung global download center. At present there is an English Quick Guide plus limited drivers / software. I have attached the specs page from the Chinese Q45 manual - there's some new hardware on board and I wonder what it does to the battery life?

Once you are there, you can also check out the NP-G15 (nothing except one (old) ATI driver at the moment) and NP-R70 (there is a manual in German).

There are some German Q45 specs here. Core 2 Duo T7100 2x 1.80GHz • 2048MB (2x 1024MB) • 160GB • DVD+/-RW DL • Intel onboard Grafik shared memory and ~Euro 1500. I'm not convinced about the display resolution (the Q35 is 1280 x 800), but gives us an idea what is around the corner (availability 4 to 6 weeks).

    John

PS: Google is giving a link to a UK Q45 here but the page won't load for me. Google's cached page page says:

At that pricing level the current Q35s will need to take a dive.

I presume that you are referring to Notebook.de.

Just to the right of the logo at the top of the page it says "International Shipping" and if you try to order something then there is an impressive list of countries, including USA.

One issue is the keyboard. The basic price is for the German keyboard. Other keyboards are available for an extra Euro 59, but the standard US keyboard is not included in the list.

    And 1.95kg is about 4.1lbs.

I had previously mentioned the new Samsung HDDs.

The 250GB 5400rpm and the 200GB 7200rpm HDDs are both now listed by Komplett although not yet in stock. £110.02p + delivery for either.

The hybrid HDD is not yet listed by Komplett but is available as a HDD configuration option at Zepto.

Some Russian shops already have the R25. It seems the only real difference is, as they say, the NVidia GPU (besides a model with C2D T5600).

As for the R70 that's some really good news. :)

    Interesting.

The P400 looks very similar to the R20 and I wonder if the P500 is a close relative of the R60+.

Perhaps they have lost the shiny display back so they look more like business machines - XP is on board and I suspect business is the target.

It appears that Samsung may finally be going to enter the US market in order to boost notebook production to a more sustainable level.

See this news thread which links to here and here.

The target is 11 million laptops by 2011 (more than triple the current production).

There is some evidence of new Samsung notebooks.

There are new BIOSes (and currently no other downloads) for an NT-Q210 and NT-R560, and everything except a manual for an NT-S410. The BIOSes are version 00 or 01 which indicates something new while the NP prefix is Korean models (NP for everyone else). The Korean models tend to appear first. Google doesn't, so far, find anything more about these except a standard 19V 4.74A (90W) PSU for the NP-R560 and NT-R560.

The S series is something new and I await with interest to find out what the S series brings.

    John

PS: I did some further digging and discovered a manual among the S410 software packages. This manual proved to be the R410 manual which suggests that the two products are very similar.

A further thought: if the R410 is 14" and the R700 is 17", maybe Samsung's new numbers are indicative of display size. ie the Q210 is 12.1" and the R560 is 15.4".

The Samsung download site now has an entry for the R460. However, there's only a BIOS at the moment. I'm guessing that it is 14.1" with a better spec than the R410 (similar to the relationship between the 15.4" R510 and R560).

    Hi Forum,

looking for a Samsung or LG notebook computer with the following specs, I'm wondering if there were manufacturer's announcements recently matching these specs. If anyone has heard something, please tell me.

The notebook should be like the Samsung P560 Pro P7450 Paris (name in Germany) + LED display, which would be:

    - matte display, WSXGA+ or WUXGA, LED, 220cd/mE2 or above
    - HDMI or DisplayPort, 3x USB or more, Gigabit-NIC
    - WebCam with 1.3MP or more
    - 6 or 9 cells battery
    - CPU from Intel Core2Duo P7350 to P8600
    - Bluetooth and WLAN b/g/n

It appears from this report that Samsung is increasing its market share. Early last year they announced they either had to substantially increase their notebooks sales or exist the market. That was before netbooks became common but, I presume, they count towards the total.

    A quick Google reveals the X3 and R430/R530, R480/R580/R780.

You can find out more about the R series by looking through the User Guides at the Samsung download site (the availability of drivers is usually an indicator of imminent production). However, the X3 is not there which means that it is further in the future.

    John

PS: Further research reveals that the X3 is not new but became the X420.

Does anyone know if samsung is going to be releasing an 11/12 inch netbook similar to the NF310? I like the design, keyboard, touchpad, and quick wake up time of the NF310, but I can barely read off of the 10 inch screen.

Samsung's CES announcements in a little less than two hours. Next gen Series 9 notebooks expected.

The Samsung USA facebook page at facebook.com/samsungusa is supposed to have the live feed at 5pm EST, 2pm PST.
