    Hi!
My 3 year-old "Gamer" NP700G7C-S02US has an 8GB SSD that is apparently just a chip soldered to the mobo. I read (here, I believe) that while it is to help boot speed, it could be disabled in device-manager, and repurposed. Sadly, it appears integral to booting my computer! I now have a computer that can't boot.

I thought I could revert to a prior system restore point (or "last known good configuration"), but the command-line utility rstrui.exe I attempt to run from the X: drive fails (tells me to reboot and select an OS, as I recall).

There are no "fast boot" options in BIOS, as some sites have mentioned. In fact, there's nothing in BIOS that's friendly to me. My boot sequence is limited to my hard drive, but attempts to boot result give me nothing but a spinning set of dots below the SAMSUNG moniker.

Samsung directed me to a Texas outfit that handles Samsung's out-of-warranty hardware, but they want me to ship my laptop to them and can't tell me anything about costs, time, etc. To me, this should be easy to fix, but I obviously know little! Any help is APPRECIATED!

    Thank you,
    Mark

Unfortunately, these ExpressCache chips have the bad habit of dying (which is probably why Samsung discontinued using them since the fix is a new mainboard). However, that should not prevent your computer from booting, although, if you are running Windows 8, then UEFI might have got confused. And, when UEFI gets confused your computer can pretend to be a brick. The good news is that several Samsung owners have figured out various resusication procedures (see the unbricking thread). Wait for someone more knowledgeable than me about these problems to guide you through the appropriate steps.

If you are running Windows 7 without UEFI then we will have to do some other brainstorming.

Your version is the windows 8.0 version. With BIOS version 08AAB There is an option to select UEFI compatibility. Also there is an option to select fastboot.

I have to ask how did you get to the command line?
