With so many new models released during the past year I would hope that Samsung just do some tweaking, at least to most of their now large range. The Series 7 Chronos is an obvious candidate to only get a new board or even just a new CPU.

On paper, we may see Ivy Bridge notebooks arriving on the shelves in Q2 2012 so it is possible that some models may be demonstrated at CES.

I hope Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Thursday 16 February 2012] got their facts confirmed before writing that story. CNET picked it up so it looks like more than one source but they are still pointing to the story from Monica and Joseph.

Now the real question remains: Does Apple have a death grip on the Ivy Bridge chips and will they be first to ship?

    Place your bets...

"Despite that the company will still announce the new products and ship a small volume of the processors in early April, mass shipments are not expected to occur until after June, according to sources from notebook players."

There is still a possibly of getting some in April, but prices will be inflated

To agree with a quote in the article when speaking about DigiTimes

But a repeat of Montevina seems likely, except it's Sandy Bridge this time.

    I just hope otherwise.

There's no commercial pressure on Intel to ship large quantities of Ivy Bridge quickly. It's not as if AMD has anything that's a threat. And with people who buy new notebooks a few months before Windows 8 arrives and therefore expecting free upgrades (which costs money to administer) I can see mainstream Ivy Bridge release coinciding with Windows 8. The upside of the slow roll-out is that any bugs should have been identified and fixed before too many people get inconvenienced.

Except perhaps that after a company spends all kinds of money for R&D,
buys equipment, creates manufacturing facilities, packaging, .....

They may want to start to re-coop some of that expense. I could be
wrong but holding onto expensive technology to wait for a complementary
product to release ( even though it isnt necessary for your product ) is
not the best financial business strategy.

I agree that Intel will be wanting to get a return on its investment. The best way to start is probably to keep supplies short and prices high. That reduces the pressure to maximise the yields while they are still debugging processes and delays the time when the Sandy Bridge chips have to take a downwards shuffle in prices, which helps to boost their return on their previous investment. I wouldn't be surprised if this has been Intel's game plan for some months. The main focus at CES was on Ultrabooks. Introduction of Ivy Bridge hardware will create unwanted competition.

I guess all of this depends on the Sandy Bridge chipset inventories. If the computer makers bought too much and sales are sluggish, there's really no choice but to try an use existing inventory.

I have no idea how that really works but I can't imagine anyone is thrilled with an Ivy Bridge delay.

I do agree with one of the earlier comments. It's good the Samsung Series 9 gen 2 roll-out isn't dependent on Ivy Bridge.
