    Hi everyone

I'm in trouble with my M40. It started with sporadic colourful stripes and flickering on the screen often followed by a blackout after which the computer completely stopped responding. Could not swithc it of after taht. First time it happened windows ran a graphic card error report.
I restarted a number of times by taking out battery. Initially it worked for a while and than the problem started again.
I reset the system to an earlier setting by no change.

Now it doesn't start at all. Sometimes it flicckers for a short moment and then goes blank.

Is it the graphics card. Or something worse. Anyone seen similar?

By the way it was very hot when it first happened and the machiene was boiling.

    Really appreciate any help
    Thanks
    Ingo

It is either a power supply or memory module problem. Capacitors could be gone as well. If your warranty is still valid, I suggest you go to the service centre.

    Hi,

I've had what sounds like exactly the same problem with my M40. It was a very hot day when mine broke too. Have you had any luck fixing yours?

I borrowed some kind of analyser card off a friend and it came up with a the code (POST code?) d259. It means nothing to me but it might give someone a clue as to what's going on.

I'd be very grateful of any help.

    Many thanks,

    Stu.

Does anybody have an idea? Thank you!

With an old notebook my first thought would be overheating due to accumulation of dust and fluff in the cooling system. See this thread for an example of what happens. This problem could affect a dedicated GPU which normally shares the same cooling system as the CPU. However, if this is the case then the computer should work for a while from a cold start.

If it refuses to restart then you can try disconnecting the mains, removing the battery and leaving the computer for a few hours before reconnecting the power. This can sometimes clear a problem.

Hi, I have a Samsumg M40 laptop and it has the same issue as posted on this thread, as soon as I boot up the screen has coloured vertical bars spaced roughtly an inch apart.

The PC boots up into Windows but once the Windows loading screen has past the screen is blank. I can hear the windows bootup tune but I am unable to get the machine to respond.

I have taken the laptop apart and cleaned the fan but to no avail.

Has anyone had any joy in finding out what the actual problem is or how to fix this.
