    Hi,

Unfortunately for me Samsung pulled out of the laptop market here in australia and dropped me in the poo.

My trusty M50 which has been a superb laptop I hasten to add, overheated and the internal graphics card displays gobbledygook when booting up.

However, when it reaches the desktop it clears up, but the comp really slows down. I can only put this down to the dedicated graphics card which is an Nvidia Geforce Go 6600 (128MB) NV43M.

I have since found out that this card is removable/replaceable and has an MxM interface.

Does anyone know if the M50 graphics card MxM interface is Type I, Type II or Type III?

I have come across Nvidia Geforce Go 6600 (128MB) NV43M on ebay but cant purchase as I dont know the MxM type.

Also where can I get parts for the M50 either in AUS or the UK.

Curiously, i came across this youtube vid of a guy upgrading his laptop Nvidia Geforce Go 6600 (128MB) to an 8600GT.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mRf...-know-mxm-technology/&feature=player_embedded

I hate the thought of having to throw this laptop.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

    Update

Managed to get a Service Manual 237 pages in pdf format which gives disassembly/assembly instructions in detail with photos.

Looking through the instructions, it seems although the M50 has dedicated graphics it is not a separate card with MxM interface. The nvidia Go 6600 GPU is on the mobo, not even socketed...bummer! This is also the case for the M40.

I would have to replace the mobo unless I can get hold of nvidia Go 6600 GPU, saw this one on ebay for US40:-

and get someone who has the right tool to remove the old chip and install the new....there is hope.

    Hi Chips,

I had a similar problem / experience with the display a while back, I somehow managed to get it going by removing the display panel from the laptop, reconnect and reconnect any of the cables that associates with the display unit, and now everything works ok for me, perhaps you can try this.

I now have a different problem, the M50 will not recognize any of the hard disk drives I have, the BIOS reported that there is no hard disk drive, this leads me to ask you where did you get the Service Manual, perhaps you might like to share this with me by sending me a copy to [email protected].

I also share your view on the unavailability of parts for the M50 in Australia, and like you I have enjoyed the laptop up to now.

    Cheers

I know very precisely, what you are talking about. How did you end up with your laptop?

I love this computer too, but with Ubuntu I currently face some problems with the proprietary Nvidia-driver for the Go 6600. Since the current drivers are not compatible with this card any more, I am locked into an old Ubuntu- (9.04) and an old driver-version (180.xx). Currently, this is not a really big issue, but when the next "long-term-version" is released in April, I surely want to upgrade (then, three more years would properly be enough for this machine..).

So I am highly interested, whether you managed to replace/upgrade your graphics card - and maybe, where you found the manual..

It would be really nice, if you could send me an email via this account here.

    Best regards,
    Yussuf

Oh, after searching for a PN-function I think, you can't contact me via this forum. If you 'd like to contact me personally (maybe for a hint regarding the manual), you may send it to schumbitrus#xx#gmx.de (#xx# = @, for reducing the amount of spam-mails ).
