My dad just ordered the Samsung NC-10 for Christmas and I am wondering since it comes with 1GB Memory is it possible to upgrade to 2GB and if it is: 1) How much can you upgrade to and 2) Would I have to buy another 1GB or could I just get a 2GB stick to put in it.

I am also wondering what the differences are between this Netbook and a regular Notebook other than the lack of CD drive...

I also have an Aircard through Sprint and one through Verizon UM150 for Verizon and Sierra something for Sprint...

Will those work with the Samsung laptop. When Laptops say they are 3G what does that mean and is the Samsung NC-10 3G compatible or whatever.

You can upgrade to 2GB max, and you'll need to get a new 2GB stick and replace the 1GB one in there.

There's a couple of differences, but the main thing is that its smaller. Much smaller.

Only a USB Aircard will work.

Both of my aircards are USB...thank goodness

So is it going to be quick with 1GB or should I upgrade...and in case you are wondering what I am going to be doing with it...nothing much more than surfing the web, and using microsoft office. And running a tiny program that involves the aircards...but thats it...it comes with XP right? What do you recommend?

Also are there any accessories for it that I should be looking at?

I personally left mine alone with the stock 1GB of RAM because that's sufficient for me on an XP computer. Can't do much with a netbook's small screen and slow CPU either. Also its reported to make hibernate/sleep times slower when you have more RAM.

But if you think you're going to be using it a lot and with multiple programs, do the upgrade by all means. Its very cheap.

    1. Should I wait until they come out with SSD Version?
Currently I only see the 120/160 HDD version for sale.

    2. Notice in some reviews at Newegg- people would have preferred an 'n' upgrade for b/g wireless. Easy to swap out/upgrade?

How is capture in non home network/Hot-spot situations as currently configured?

I dont think anything is easily swapped out minus RAM/Batteries or whatever...anything else and you have to open her up I think.

    Hey all, new poster here...

It's actually my birthday today, and i am told i am getting one of these netbooks (Samsung nc10) as a gift..

Looks a pretty nifty piece of kit, but my obvious concern is even though it has a 160gb hard drive, it has no cd drive. So therefore, what is the easiest and most efficient way to transfer the data eg music files onto the netbook?

And also, is there any software out there that lets me like copy a dvd onto the netbook?

I have plenty of dvd's i wouldn't mind watching on the netbook but would obviously have to be saved on the netbook as there is no disk drive...

    Thanks in advance.

I've never encountered that problem before.

Does it happen when (i) you start on mains power (ii) when are are running on battery and plug in the PSU and (iii) if you are running on main power with the battery removed.

I think it is time for you to contact Samsung support. The answers to the three questions above should help them diagnose the problem (but I think the NC10 needs to go in for repair).

Has anybody encountered problems when trying to install Windows ACTIVE X ver 4.5 software in the NC-10? I can not do it and I need to synchronize my PDA (iPAQ111) and cellphone to it. I can download ActiveX to the NC-10 and get no error message but when I connect the PDA to it the NC-10 will not notice it, so they are not communicating. The mobile devices do sync all right with my laptop, so there is nothing wrong with them.

I have an NC10, 5 months old, everytime I plug in the mains power source to charge my battery, the screen goes completely white! If I unplug the the power source, it goes back to normal...

...therefore I can't charge my battery and work on it at the same time...what shoud I DO??!

Does this problem also occur at the BIOS screen (press ESC key on initial booting)?

If so, the problem is not caused by something wrong in Windows and you should contact Samsung technical support. If the text on the BIOS screen is not affected by plugging in the mains power then the Windows installation is corrupted.
