Hey guys, i am relativley new to these forums, everyone has to start somewhere with their first problem!

So i recently acquired an NPQ35 samsung notebook and i installed windows vista 64 bit onto it!

I wanted to install the samsung software and update the BIOS but it wont let me because the laptop doesnt recognize itself as being a samsung model, so the software doesnt work, it fails to install the BIOS and the "samsung update" software because it says i am installing it on a system that isnt samsung.

How can i rectify this problem?

Also i cant find 64bit drivers for the memory card slot or the touchpad.

And the batter wont charge, it says plugged in but not charing?

    Can anyone please help?

    Thanks, Megacamz

Your best hope for drivers is to look for 64 bit drivers on the concerned hardware manufacturers' websites. You can see details of the hardware (eg make of touchpad) in my Q35 review (link below).

Samsung do not officially support 64-bit Windows on any of their notebooks. However, there are several threads here about running 64-bit on Samsung notebooks.

Regarding the battery, I suggest that you boot the Q35 off a Linux live CD and see what that shows. I suspect that the battery, which is probably around 2 years old, is completely dead.

Thanks for the help, stupidly i have lost the original vista 32 bit dvd that came with the laptop, i know requesting this could be frowned upon, but does anyone know where i can download the samsung 32 bit vista DVD?

I have vista ultimate 64bit at home, which i paid for, and the laptop needed a reformatting, it was running severely slow after i gave it a once over.

The battery says that its 97% full and was working as of 2 days ago lol.

You may have the original OS installation sitting in the recovery partition unless that partition has been deleted. Try pressing F4 at the BIOS splash screen.

As for the battery, they occasionally die suddenly. However, it may be a calibration problem. You can first try the battery calibration option in the BIOS. The next step would be to disable the critical battery action and run the computer until the battery is completely empty. Then recharge it with the computer off.

    Hi, thanks for the replys.

Well, stupidly i deleted the recovery partition! lol

And the battery issue i can discharge it manually and recharge it, also i think its because the samsung battery manager software wont install, it seems it needs that software to work correctly!

Would you know where i can get hold of a samsung recovery vista dvd?

    Thanks, Megacamz
