Hi, this is my first post any help would be great.
I have a Samsung NP-RF711-S07UK laptop and I am not sure if I have a fault?
My wireless BT Infinity router has 2.4GHz and 5GHz my laptop only connects to the 2.4GHz [ My step daughter connects to the 5GHz so no problems with router]
I contacted Samsung UK and they explained my laptop has a 802.11n Network Adapter and should connect to the 5GHz with no problems.
The problem is it will only connect to the 2.4GHz. Samsung are saying there is a problem.
Does anyone know if my laptop is 5GHz compatible?
I bought laptop in April 2012.

    Hello GPR, welcome to NBR.

Do you know the model of WiFi adapter in your laptop? You can look under Network adapters in the Device Manager control panel.

It is possible that it doesn't support dual bands (5GHz and 2.4GHz) though most newer laptops do. The fact that it is 802.11n is no guarantee of dual band support. The Samsung rep should have been more clean about that.

I have tried to look by taking what I can take off on the back but I cannot see what WiFi adapter I have.

Just open Device Manager (in Windows Control Panel), see what is listed under Network adapters and post it here. Mine is Intel 6230, as you can see in the attached screenshot:
