    Hi,

when I bought my Samsung NP530U3C-A01DE I switched the built-in HDD for an SSD and never used the built-in 24GB SSD chip. At least I thought so: Recently I found out that there is a "hibernate partition" on it (see attachment). Is this in use for Windows' hiberfil.sys? Or can I delete it and use the whole chip as a regular drive?

    Thanks!

Does you computer use the Intel Rapid Start Technology? That uses a separate hibernation partition. IRST is discussed in more detail here.

Indeed, I have Intel Rapid-Storage Technology installed. And after reading your post I finally also know why waking up takes longer in the morning.

Can I turn off IRST so that my PC stays in sleep mode instead of hibernate? And can I remove the partition then?

There should be a switch in Easy Settings for enabling / disabling IRST. Once disabled you can remove the partition.

The iSSD is much slower than a normal SSD and I suggest you try rerunning the IRST installer and see if it will put the hibernation partition on the main SSD. resume from hibernation should take no more than 10 seconds.

I tried to find this switch in Easy Settings but I can't... Could you please tell me where it is?

If it is there then it will be at the bottom of the General tab.

If it is not there then probably IRST is not installed (you can check under Programs and Features in Control Panel - if you find Intel Rapid Storage then uninstall it).

Then you can safely delete the hibernation partition without upsetting anything.

I have found two entries. Intel Rapid Start Technology and Intel Rapid Storage Technology and uninstalled both.

When I open computer management and right click the hibernate partition, I can only select help and not delete it. Is that normal?

Windows Disk Management has limited functionality. Use Minitool Partition Wizard home edition which is free and hasn't caused me any headaches.

Rapid Storage Technology is a storage device driver and has nothing to do with the Rapid Start Technology (very confusing of Intel to use the two similar names). Some people find it helps and others find it creates problems. If it's not installed then Windows will use the Microsoft driver.

OK, I re-installed the Rapid Storage Technology cause it never caused any problems. I will test a little more and see if I want Rapid Start back for my SSD. Thank you!

Some word of warning: I just re-installed Rapid Start and it formatted my iSSD without even asking!
