    Samsung NP700Z5B-W01UB Q: Max mem & quad-channel memory?

    1) Max mem on release last year was stated to be 8 GB. Have the firmware updates changed any of this?

    2) Looks like it's running in dual channel mode. Will it support quad channel mode (perhaps if I buy different memory?)

    1. The maximum should be 12GB if the accessible RAM module is 2GB (4gb soldered on the motherboad). Most of the Series 7 have that config, i.e., 4GB soldered on the motherboard and one RAM slot accessible to user for upgrading. So you can get a 8GB stick and upgrade to 12
    2. No. Quad channel is possible on desktop only at the moment. You need atleast 4 physical DIMMs occupied to go quad channel and the chipset has to support it too. I am not aware of any mobile chipset that does that

    It came with a +2 GB in the sodimm, upgraded to a 4. I guess if it really can take 12 I'll have to buy an 8.
