Hi, I recently discovered the Samsung Series 7 Laptops and bought two; NP700z3a-so6us and NP700z5c-s01us. I am very pleased with the overall computer as a whole and would be perfectly fine using it the way it comes out of the box, Im just a sucker for wanting to get the most out of my computers and apparently like to waste money. You must think im crazy for ripping apart my week old NP700Z5C but I really want to see what a 1920x1080 will do in this puppy! I was asked to start this thread, and I hope it will turn into a very informative thread on how to upgrade your display in the NP700 models. I hope to have pictures and video up soon.

OK so here is what i posted so far:

Ok I don't know about an IPS but this is what I'm trying PART NUMBER AUO B156HW01 V.4 FullHd display, should have it installed tomorrow or Wednesday I will post a thread if all goes well!

Also calibration through windows 7 is essential to get the most out of the factory display! It's not the worst display I have seen.

Just an update about my "attempted" screen upgrade. Had ordered an AOU b156HW01 V.4 and told it was compatible, it was not! Not only was the 40 pin connector to high, it was also to thick. Needless to say i was very disappointed since i ad already took apart the screen assembly. This was not all bad, the screen wasn't that bad to disassemble, it is not the same way as another poster had showed with pictures, but not very bad you just have to be very careful with the glued on bezel. Well working on finding a working upgrade screen fix. Will keep yall posted, if anyone knows please chime in, i want to do a full YouTube instruction video

Now what I have discovered is that I should have pulled my screen before I ordered something based on some salesman tells me it will work. What I have found also is there is not a lot of other compatible displays for this laptop that i can find. One thing with the first AUO display I got was that it was way to thick not to mentiion it did not have any of the mounts for the screws. What i was able to find is the AUO B156HW03 v.0 B156HW03 V.0 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN FROM $44. HP ACER TOSHIBA DELL APPLE COMPAQ. Notebook screen, laptop display, notebook lcd, laptop tft, screen DELL, ACER lcd, screens SONY, lcd DELL, ACER lcd. looks like the screen I need. No finding tech data on these screens is tough , especially for the Samsung screen. I was able to find the width and measure it out so it looks like it should work! Also the most important thing is the 40pin connector on this AUO looks to be in the right place finally! So first thing this morning Im sending back the one that doesnt fit and exchanging it for the HW03... fingers crossed!

Also I found a great site for replacement parts for Samsung Products Samsung Parts, Accessories, DLP TV Lamp, Remote Controls, AC Adapters
really wish they had pictures tho!

Ill be ordering the service manual soon!

what the...., a 1080 display only costs $91?? The 900 display probably cost them something like $60. Why the heck wouldn't Samsung pay the extra small amount to put in a better screen. They would double their customers. I just don't get it

Update: unfortunately the hw03 does not fit either :( at this time I'm out of screens to try  , but I wont stop searching for something that may work! There are lower resolution screens that fit but that is not the purpose of this thread!

Also it is very tough to get the bezel back on with out looking like crap, so I'm going to search and see if samsung sells the bezel new! Should be an inexpensive. Hopefully I will find something soon, I'm going to be researching out to my tech buds to see if we can find a replacement!

Just FYI if you do need to replace the factory LCD because of damage the process is not hard and very doable and inexpensive! The bezel is the only part that is sucks getting back on!

Try double sided tape and a blast of heat from a hairdryer to melt the tape on the bezel before sticking back. Caution on heat.

Hi there, I managed to break my screen while unscrewing the back. Basically put too much pressure on the laptop from the back side while trying to get a grip on the screws, so the LCD started "leaking". Could you direct me to where I can find replacement screens - or better yet - another screen of the same resolution that offers better viewing angles?

Samsung NP700Z5C-S01SG which is the model for Singapore but I am assuming they are universal in terms of compatibility for their screens. The screen I had was a 1600x900 HD+.

The clowns at the repair shop began their regular pricing gouging saying it would $400 for a replacement screen and installation. I thought I would order it from an OEM service and have them jsut do the replacement (for $80) but they said they had the screen in stock. 1 week later, after not calling me back, I find out they only expect to receive the screen in another two weeks, so might as well explore the OEM option.

Thanks very much for your help!

Sadly, an IPS replacement is probably out of the picture, so to speak, because of how thin the display housing is. I believe IPS panels in general are thicker.

While I'd love a 1920x1080 panel, I would be perfectly happy with a high quality 1600x900 instead. Something with much better viewing angles.

You should check out the new HP DV6. Their screens are pretty thin now so if you could find the part number of that screen (I believe it's an LG) you may be able to fit the 1920x1080 IPS panel from the HP into the Samsung.

Isn't this the LG (Brilliance) screen that certain people have been complaining about because its reds are too orange and its blues are too purple?

Sadly, I don't have an NP700Z5C yet. I'm partially waiting on someone to find an alternative LCD panel.

It would seem that the newer LG panel in the latest Ivy Bridge refresh is good. The older panel was also pretty good once calibrated.

Yeah like dalingrin said I believe those are issues of the past, and I was under the impression that they only affected the Envy 1080 screens, not the DV6 but I could be totally wrong :p

    Hello,

i want to do the same with my Samsung RF511 from 2011. I've found this panel: LP156WF1-TLF3. It has 1 channel LVDS and 40pins, so it should fit the notebook. What do you think about the display?

I've just picked up a Z5C myself, and I'd love to do this. Do you have any information on a lower resolution panel being able to fit? I really don't mind it being 1600x900 at all, but I'd prefer something with a (much) higher contrast ratio than the sub-standard display that ships with the machine.

    Hello,
I have got my information from panelook.com, they do not list a compatible 1channel LVDS display with 1600x900 there. I do not know whether your laptop uses dualchannel LVDS. Mine only fits 1channel, i think. If a laptop uses dualchannel LVDS to connect with the display AND the display is LED-backlit, the laptop can fit almost every panel out there if it is the correct size and not too thick.

Do you have the NP700Z5C or a different laptop? Is there any physical way to tell from the display or connector?

Edit: Googled for the cable, and though I've found a lot of Chinese sellers, none of them list whether it's single or dual-channel LVDS. I'm not even sure if the cable matters in this case however.

    Hello,

i have the Samsung RF511 from 2011. It has only 1366x768 pixels, so it uses singlechannel LVDS. The chance is high that your laptop with 1600x900 pixels has dualchannel LVDS because of the higher resolution.

Bumping in hopes that someone will see this and have a solution :(. All I'm really looking for is a screen swap, even though 1080p and/or IPS would be nice, I would truly be perfectly satisfied even with a 900p panel that is of better quality than the SE0006 that comes built into my machine. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

    Dear all,

I have had the same idea to upgrade the screen of my Samsung 700Z5C.
I asked screen salers, about the compatibility of better screens, with the poor one provided with the 700Z5C.
One saler told me to ask Samsung... The Samsung support told me they do not access this kind of demand.
Another saler did propose me a glossy screen, which I did'nt want. I want a non glossy one.
And a third saler told me that my Samsung screen was rather good, and advise me not to change it...

    Sincerely,

    Pierre Brunet

Looks like the connectors are in the wrong spot on those screens, but maybe with a cable extended mentioned earlier might make this feasible.

That may well be the case, but it also implies that we should buy a new S7 to replace the screen on the old S7. Or are you suggesting that Samsung might be willing to sell us a a new S7 screen independently?

Well I mean maybe there would be some 3rd part manufacturer that would supply replacement screens for it. Or you could order the screen separately, pretending that the one on yours broke in a fall. The possibilities are endless. All just speculation of course.

I've actually done some more research on the screen and it doesn't look like the NP780Z5E has the right mounts to fit into the NP700Z5C which is my laptop. I'm not sure about the thickness although it looks similar. The connectors are both 40 pin for what it's worth but the NP780Z5E is supposed to be a touchscreen laptop. I have no idea if these would be compatible although it would be cool to be able to have a full HD touch screen in my laptop.

The LG LP156WF4 SLB1 and LG LP156WF4 SLB5 are matte versions and well reviewed...

The size looks right. There is a chance a LCD Cable Extension is needed, but doesn't cost much.

    Who is going to try?

If this works, i'm going to buy this laptop....

At this point dude you're better off getting the new np870z5e or np770z5e that come stock with 1080 screens. The np700z5c is being phased out and is mostly gone already.

If you can, you should really wait for the Haswell refresh of the 3rd gen Chronos (making it a 4th gen of course) just so you're not immediately outdated.

Problem is that these ones are NOT up-gradable to 16GB (onboard soldered) . Only the NP700Z5B and NP700Z5A were....

    So I'm still interested :)

    see here: https://hackpad.com/Best-Panels-Wiki-D5UvkrtVvJ9

The HP uses SL B2. But that one has some issues, so the B6 is used as a replacement/upgrade. So you are on the right track.

For me, I want a mate screen. So i would try the B1 or B5.

I have good experience with this shop: https://www.laptopscreen.com
I placed an order with exact model number and on a note made it clear i needed that exact part. They could not provide and refundend.

So if i go thru with this, i will reorder there...
