Hello all... maybe this is common thing to you guys who had notebooks for years already... but for me... my samsung Q35 is my very first notebook. So can someone share with me what are the things i need to care for so that my notebook will last longer.
I would like to devide this question to certain parts so that it can be clear for me and others too...
1) Cleanliness
- How to clean my samsung laptop?
- What kind of liquid or material i need to use to clean my keyboard n screen?
- How often I need to clean my laptop?
- Is there any special way to clean the fan in my notebook or to prevent it from collecting too much dust?
2. External Outlook
- How to prevent major scratch on the screen or the cover?
3. Battery Life
- How can I prevent too much lost of the battery performance?
- Do I need to unplugged the battery if i'm using direct power supply?
- Is it recommended to remove the battery while travelling before using it?
- How can I calibrate the battery so that it always at the top performance?
4. General Issue
- Is it okay to bring the laptop along in normal backpack without any pad?
- How is it result to the laptop if any minor impact occured onto the laptop?
I hope my questions are not too long...I think all these infos can be use for all the samsung user here... so i would like to ask to those who have experienced on taking care of the laptop to give me the info...

1) a) I clean the screen with specail screen whipes that I got from work. Nothing special looks and smells just like the wet whipes you can buy for glasses.
b)If i spilled some drops on the keyboard I whipe it with a wet towel. About once a year (had my Samsung for almost 4 years) I take my keyboard out and clean it from hair and dust and other small parts that get stuck over time.
c) When it looks dirty.
d) I have never cleaned the fans. I know people say you should but my Pentium M runs nice and cool.
2) Just be carefull. No way to prevent it.
3) a) Nothing you can really do. Undervolting and so one improves battery life.
b) It is said to be better. But my samsung doesnt stand right when i take out the battery because the 2 front feet are on the battery.
c) I never did it. Never a problem. The laptop has traveld a few times to Asia and many times around Europe and never complained.
d) Just leave it alone. Most people I know that calibrated where worse of after then before.
4) a) It will scratch if the laptop can move around in the bag.
b) depends where it gets hit. It should be ok but if you hit the wrong place like a courner things can break. -

Cleaning:
I use a damp cloth with very little liquid detergent (washing up liquid or cheap shampoo) to first clean the screen and then the rest of the computer. You can wipe any dust off the screen with a soft cloth.
There are two ways to clear dust: (a) Suck the dust out with a household vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle; (b) blow the dust out with a can of compressed air.
Undervolting the CPU will reduce the fan activity and reduce the amount of dust being sucked in (on minimum speed the fan does not suck much air).
Care Against Scratches
Wipe any dust off the display with a soft cloth. Do not point at the display with a pen or pencil.
Carry the computer in a soft case or sleeve and make sure that the inside is free of anything which can cause a scratch.
Battery Life
Battery recharge starts when the charge is below 97% so being permanently connected to the mains causes no loss of battery life by continuously recharging. I always leave the battery in and accept that it will gradually lose capacity. Some batteries are worse than others.
I have mixed experience with battery calibration. I haven't yet tried the freezer method recommend in one of the other threads. worry about restoring capacity when you start to lose some.
General Care
Putting the computer in a sleeve inside a normal backpack is probably OK if you try to treat the backpack carefully. Or you can look for a backpack with a computer pocket with some padding. I would be more worried about the display than the corners and I always pack the computer so the display is against something flat (in a back pack this would be my back).
I don't like big padded bags which double the travel weight and quadruple the volume.

Battery: I have lost 1/3 of my battery capacity of my X60 in a year working mostly on AC. The initial maximum of 3 hours of cordless work is now only 1:50 under light load. I have not calibrated yet, but seeing the lines above I think I will avoid it completely.
