Good day everyone, I purchased the Samsung Notebook 9 from Amazon. Now ,,it is "humming" It has no HDD, just an SSD, so i assume there were no moving parts.
I'm worried ,,i don't have much luck with laptops.

Also, that humming is on all the time, from the time you turn on the computer, until you turn it off.

    thank you.

Does it hum with the AC adapter unplugged?

There is one moving part: The fan. However, I would not expect it to be running until the CPU warms up (run wPrime and see if the humming noise changes).

First check that it is not coming from the audio system: Plug in some earphones and see if the sound disappears. If the sound persists then it is probably caused by a vibrating component. This is a fairly common problme but is usually at a very high frequency which only younger ears can hear (genenically known as "CPU whine").

Yes, it hums with ac adapter plugged in and when not plugged in, and no,,it does;nt hum when the headphones are plugged in.
Also,,the specs i've read , go on about long battery life, but i average 1.5 hours, it's been that way since i opened it up out of the box.

    1. Just to confirm: Are you indicating that the humming is coming through the speakers and occurs when on both AC and battery power? Have you looked for any newer audio drivers? Run Samsung Update. Do you have another devices connected to the computer?

    2. What does BatteryInfoView report for (i) the Design Capacity and the Full Charged Capacity of the battery; and (ii) the Charge / Discharge Rate when running on battery. Do the measurements after (re)starting the computer and waiting for a minute or two for the system to settle down. Check the effect of changing the display brightness on the discharge rate. Samsung's 12 hour claim represents a power drain of about 3W (3000mW) which is low by any standards. To do this they must have had the display on minimum brightness, all wireless devices turned off, enabled any power saver modes and be doing something easy, such as displaying some text on the screen) which doesn't use much CPU power.

From my experience a light usage power drain of 5 to 6W would be reasonable. Your 1.5 hours represents 20w or more power drain. Have you got a bright display and running the CPU in high performance mode (which makes no significant difference from balanced / optimized mode in terms of performance but increases the power consumption).
