Well, it will stay expensive, but there is the first major update of the so applauded q30 series: the q30plus coming up in Europe. It has not been announced here yet but was already demonstrated at IFA 2005 in Berlin.
The Q30plus features the Sonoma platform and a Pentium-M 753 (1,2 Ghz) processor. The most important improvements will probably be the new integrated sonoma graphics chip GMA 900, a 250 nits 12 inch widescreen and an optional bigger (60 gigs) harddrive (still 1,8"). Laptop will hit market in Europe as early as November, price is still unknown. But since Samsung still thinks subs are only interesting for a niche market the new revision might not be cheaper than before. Remember, here in Europe it ships for around 4000 euros (2000 euros for the low-spec Jamie version!).
It is not reported if the new model affects the Latitude X1 line produced by Samsung, which is as Samsung Asia's officials state still a not so well made product as their sub-notebook flagship. Cant wait to get hands on it!

I posted it in another thread already, but it also fit here: already a week ago I have seen on-line offers of Samsung Q30plus in Ukraine for the price like 2300$! (Some knowledge of Russian helps sometimes
).

LeonX,
in fact, the offers of Samsung Q30 I have seen on ukrainian sites are
well equipped for the price, if compared to Germany. Two batteries and
DVD burner (combo or multi) are included to the price as a rule. Moreover, they offer 36 month of warranty inside Ukraine (can't say if it extends outside ukraine). Unfortunately, I was not able to obtain more details, my email was not replied to, so they are obviously not interested in foreign purchases, and I think it is hardly possible to avoid the related problems, unless one is going to visit UKraine in person.
An example of a very reasonabel current offer of Q30plus for $2430:
http://www.levite.com.ua/laptops.html:
PentiumM ULV_753 1.2GHz /12.1"/(1280x800) / 512mb/ 60Gb/ S-MultiDVD / Video*Intel/ExtrGraf3 to64mb/ Modem/ Lan+/ Wi-Fi*g/ BT+/ WinXP HE/ 1.1kg/ Time*4h/ PCMCIA*?/ USB*2/ VGA+/ iLink6pin/ MS, MS Pro, SD, MMC, CF, Red.
The resolution given by them is obvioulsy a mistake. -
real samsung fans buy their notebook in korea ;-)

Of course there is a way. Some big European traders are shipping their products worldwide. But many of them are afraid of the taxes ...

My last posting was a direct reply to your question "Is there a way to do it from Europe?"

the dell X1 is now offering a 80Mb hd option

So, practically, there is no way, as I told, unless one boards a plane to the Far East or like.

yeah, that's it

Hey! I found another reseller of Q30+ in the US!
http://shopping.redorbit.com/catalog/Samsung-Q30-40-GB-p-3087116.html -
I've got a dumb newbie question here: I've decided to get a Q30 and will probably pick it up while I'm in London. I've found a decent price at http://www.microanvika.com/product.asp?TXT=INFO&PNO=SAM14502 for about $1800 (excluding VAT).
Can somebody steer me to a place where I can buy a power adapter for the Q30 that I can use in the US? Will a X1 adapter from Dell work?
Also, I'll probably want to upgrade the RAM. What type of memory does it use? Thanks in advance! -
The memory used is DDR2 SDRAM.
However, note that there is some confusion about these models named Q30+. The one which microanvika.com offers under this name is rather an older version Q30 for, the new one Q30plus has Intel 915 chipset,
1.2GHz processor and 60GB HDD. -
Sorry for the wrong information about the upcoming Q30plus in Europa but this information came straight from Samsungs press people. Last time I talked to them in Decembre they told me we will see new notebooks in January. And actually why shouldnt we see notebooks with Core processors.
BTW: Samsung offers the q30+ in Portugal, have a look on the Portoguese Website. -
which site do you recommend that I buy korean samsung notebooks?
