Hey guys, this is a request for help really!
Q35s are now shipping in the 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo guise with Windows Vista pre-installed, and I'm wondering, if anyone has one could you do me a copy of the Software CD.
Now before people start moaning, this isnt illegal, I have an XP software CD and the actual software, (Power DVD etc) is identical. I just want the Vista drivers, and I cant get them from Samsung direct. I am a Windows Vista rep, working in stores for Microsoft at the moment and have had Vista since August, but I expect Samsung to have the drivers by now... alas they havent got them on samsungpc.com
I am prepared to pay anyone for their troubles!

Have you tried installing Vista on the Q35 to see what works and what doesn't?

This thread reports success in getting Vista to work on the X60.

You should also update the firmware on your Q35 to 22SD. No one knows what is different in that BIOS, but it seems to also work OK with XP.

Yeah its installed, its been on there since August/September, but obviously as it was Release candidate, then RTM versions drivers were not available at all. However now I have seen Q35s with Vista on pre-installed.
Ive told Samsung this but they seem to deny that they exist.
All I want really is the new Vista display manager and the Vista soundmax drivers as the XP ones dont work properly.

I have just had a long phone conversation with a Samsung UK support person. Among other things, I asked about Vista drivers and I was told that there would be a major update of the Samsung web site at the end of February which would include Vista drivers for current models.

Have you tried a Vista graphics driver from Intel?

However, I think we have to wait for Samsung to post the Vista audio driver. Soundmax support refers us to the computer manufacturers.

Maybe they are waiting for the weekend before updating the website, or maybe they aren't ready yet.

Intel Graphics driver works, but the power management features dont work, so about an hour of battery life just dissapears, and also it struggle with WMVs, keeps telling me there is a problem with the video card driver.
Soundmax driver off the CD is ok, it just crashes when you resume from standby. I think this is because the disk is off a Core 2 Duo notebook and mine is a Core Duo, which would mean there are different chipsets... or at least I think thats the case...

    1. While there is a power management tab in the Intel Graphics properties for Windows XP on my Q35, it is all greyed out but I can get up to 5 hours battery run under light use.

Are you running Vista with Aero? I have found with XP on my Q35 that anything with a bit of moving graphics hits the battery life significantly. For example the Flash banner advert for this site. It doesn't stop when in the background so I have to shut Firefox down. (There ought to be a power management option in Firefox to disable animation when running on batteries.]. Although people are saying that Aero doesn't hit battery life much, a couple of watts power drain makes a lot of difference on the Q35.

    2. I don't think there is any difference between the sound hardware and software between the CD and C2D computers. They use exactly the same chipset. Have you tried hibernation? I have often had problems with software not working properly after standby and therefore tend to avoid it, but I use hibernation which seems to be more robust.
