Hi my Samsung Q45 is broken it wont turn on, so I was hoping to stick the hard drive in a Toshiba but a: its a 13mm or whatever so the incorrect depth and b: it has that funny ribbon thing that has been mentioned on other posts in this forum.

Can i just get rid of this ribbon thing and how is the normal plug type underneath?

I was then hoping to just get a caddy like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-5-Inch-SATA...ComputingQ5fHardDrivesQ5fRLQQsalenotsupported

Sorry about the lack of detail I'm sure the answer is an easy one but I have no experience whatsoever with Laptops.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

The ribbon cable connects to a plug which joins to the connector on the HDD. You can prise the plug off the HDD quite easily. I use a small screwdriver and lift up each side a little at a time.

Are you saying that the Q45's HDD is a 12.5mm thick unit? I'm sure they are 9.5mm thick.

The 9.5mm HDD will fit into a 12.5mm bay but you might need some padding to stop it rattling around.
