I have a Samsung RC512 and the touchpad randomly stops about 4 times a day. Pressing sleep and then waking it up restores functionality. Also when I am using a separate mouse, it never stops working (I turn the touchpad off).

Any ideas on how to debug the problem of the touchpad stopping?

Check if you are using latest BIOS and touchpad driver.

My laptop (RC512-01) is having a very similar problem the mouse stopping randomly. It does work perfectly after you put the computer to sleep and bring it back. Plugging in an external mouse works and will sometimes cause the normal mouse to work as well.

Reinstalling the mouse driver and the BIOS has had no effect.

Any other ideas from anyone? I've been lost on this

If it is the Elan touchpad then you can get a newer driver than Samsung probably offer for the RC512. There's a link or two near the end of this thread. My NP900X3B used to suffer a similar problem but that disappeared some months ago so it must have been fixed by either a BIOS or driver update. The other tweak I tried was raising the priority of ETDCtrl.exe and ETDCctrlHelper.exe in Task Manager from Normal to Above Normal.
