According to this source Samsung will discontinue all Windows based laptops in favor of Chromebooks. Moreofver, one major East African electronics supplier staff personally told me that Samsung have stopped supplying notebooks for the past 3 months and they have discontinued Notebook production.

Don't you think this is disappointing for Samsung notebook lovers and a dangerous development considering hardware and software support in the future? Is the real reason for their dropping Chromebooks or lack of profits in Windows laptops due to the high share (40%) taken by Microsoft and Intel?

This is old news. See here and here, for example.

Availability problems with some of the new models suggest that Samsung has already relegated notebook production to a small corner of the factory.

This is sad for Windows. It would have been great if PC makers start selling free dos so that users can choose the OS they want.

Chrome books are usually a lower end item as compared to full fledge laptops. Hardware wise to make a usable systems it is much cheaper overall. Also less expense on the OS as well.

Also with poor Windows 8 sales it makes sense as well. It just is hard to convince users to purchase a system they do not want. While this chipping away at M$ today does not seem like much it is this slow erosion of the mighty tower that one day could lead to an avalanche. If these lower tier OEM's gain some success the upper tier ones are bound to jump on those bandwagons to grab a lions share of the profit.

The other side of the coin too is as smaller OEM's divert from Redmond they then start too loose the leverage Windows provides them. Loss of this leverage will tempt the computer manufacturers to seek sales and profit elsewhere. This is a time consuming process but one that is slowly taking shape. While it is too soon to say the sky is falling, those dark clouds are definitely rolling in!
