I am having trouble with the touchpad. Everything about it is working, but the pointer lacks precision and it takes forever to get the arrow over the place i want it to be. I over-shoot, under-shoot, etc.

I have tried tweeking the settings but nothing seems to help. I thought I would just force myself to use it in hopes I would adjust to it. But after a week of frequent use, it still drives me crazy.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    1. Make sure that you are using the latest driver (the one on the SF310 downloads is a year old). Most likely a newer model Samsung with the same make of touchpad will have a newer driver. Alternatively look on the touchpad manufacturer's website.

    2. Try disabling gestures.

John, thanks for your quick reply. I see you on this board a lot and you always are very helpful.

    1. When I go to device manager it says I have the latest driver.
    2. When I go to ELAN website, it says to go to manufactors site for drivers.
    3. When I go to Samsung, I can't find a more recent driver.
    4. When I disable options under ELAN options, the pointer seems to get even less precise.

Two other courses of action are (i) to figure out which newer Samsung notebooks use the Elan touchpad and use that driver (ii) pass the problem to Samsung support.

I called Samsung Support when I first bought computer. They immediately wanted me to send it in. (But since I bought at Costco, I would return there instead of send it for repair. These are last efforts before returning.)

I tried finding a computer on Samsung site that uses new Elan driver, but was not successful.

It could be worth trying out the pointer driver for my laptop, the SF311 which is an updated version of yours. I think the main difference is that it uses the 2nd generation of Intel i5 processors on Sandybridge so the pointer hardware should be identical. You said the one on the SF310 download page was a year old where the SF311 pointer software is January 2011.

Thanks so much, Kempston. I'll try that right away.

I downloaded the touchpad driver for the SF311. But it is synaptics and my touchpad is elan. I'm assumming it is not a good idea to mix hardware and drivers?

Yesterday, the automatic update installed a new touchpad driver. I was soooo excited. As it turns out it was a synaptics driver for my elan touchpad. Still no precision of pointer. And now it jumps around when I'm typing.

hey summerthyme, if you are facing touch pad problem particular in that model so what i would suggest you just be replace ASAP. And everbody knows that Samsung is newly in lappy, but what i know about this model any new thin and light weighing in at £750 has a lot to prove in a crowded market. It needs to stand out stylistically, yet still offer strong value for money.

It's not an easy task, because on one side you'll find Apple's impossibly thin MacBook Air redefining style, while on the other you have the ever-expanding glut of netbooks, typified by the likes of Samsung's own N230 proving that a little cash can go an incredibly long way if the right components are used.

What hope is there for the likes of the SF310 then? What can it do to raise more than a passing interest?

First impressions are positive – a run-down of the components list used in the Samsung SF310 will placate the techno savvy.

The presence of an Intel Core i5 processor, Nvidia discrete graphics, LED screen and good storage options all quickly put to bed any notion that this is a trumped-up netbook. No, the Samsung SF310 is a fully fledged laptop, and it just so happens to be wrapped up in a delightly designed shell.
