    Samsung Serie 3 - very quiet ?

    Hi,

    I'm looking for a very quiet laptop and am considering buying a Samsung serie 3 (core i3 , no extra GPU) . Is it really very quiet ? Also, there is also a silent key on the keyboard, what does it do and is it efficient ?

    The silent mode locks the CPU speed down to the minimum thereby reducing the heat generated so the fan is either off or spinning very slowly.

    If you want a really quiet notebook then look at the Series 3 Chromebook with the ARM CPU. It doesn't have a fan. However, you haven't indicated what size of Series 3 you are interested in.

    I looked at the Chromebook and was very interresting by the fact they have no fan, but I need windows (will do office/internet and some music stuff, editing midi file, recording ..)

    Howtherwise, screen size will be 15,6" .

    My series 3 i3 15.6" is extremely quiet even in normal mode. I can hear the HDD more often then I can hear the fan.

    Thanks for the information.
    What is the most noisy, the fan or the HDD ?
    Also, do you use the silent key and do the fan run in that mode ?
