    Hi all,
    I have an NP530U3C with win8 pre-installed.

I have succesfully used it with an usb pendrive with Linux Mint. I press F10 on boot and I choose Usb drive and all goes fine.

Today I try to install linux on a partition on my hdd, I added it to windows boot manager using EasyBcd, when I select Linux boot it give me an error and not boot. Windows boot fine.

So I remove linux and his partition.

Now when I press F10 on boot I can not see options to boot from usb.

I have enable and disable Fast Boot, secure boot, uefi and so on.

Usb does not appear on list of devices to boot from :-(

    Can you help me?

    Sorry for my english!

    Mauro

Google for "site:forum.notebookreview.com/Samsung Linux". I'm sure this type of problem has been encountered (and fixed) previously but can't remember the details.

Assuming you still have the pre-installed Win8 and your HDD is still GPT (ie you didn't change partition layout or the EFI/ESP partition), make sure you have the following EXACT settings in BIOS.

    Fast Boot = Disabled
    SecureBoot = Disabled
OS Mode Selection = UEFI & CSM OS

After saving these settings, reboot with the USB inserted and go back into BIOS (F2). It should display your USB under Boot Priority -- I hope

But also do use that search John gave you to look for other relevant discussions.

Edit: Something else I just remembered: Some members have reported problems booting NTFS formatted USB devices while UEFI mode was enabled. If the above doesn't do it, then check that your USB is FAT32 formatted, not NTFS.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have search in the forum a lot, and I have found some similar issues, but none same as mine.

I was able to boot from usb for a while, and now it's disappeared.

    I have in bios:

    Fast Bios Mode disabled
    Secure boot disabled
    OS Mode UEFI and CSM

I reboot the pc and in Boot order I see only:

    1. Windows boot manager
    2. Sata HDD
    3. Sata Cd that is not present on my laptop

    Thank for any help

    Mauro

You COULD try OS Mode Selection = CSM, and probably that will let you boot the USB. The risk here is that you either won't be able to see the GPT partitioned drive OR (worse) that whatever you're booting will see it as an MBR disk and cause a mess on it.

GPT contains a so-called Protective MBR, which is a fake MBR table that lets legacy apps (CSM) see the disk as an unknown partition. But I've seen reports here of users booting in CSM mode and being able to install Windows onto a GPT disk. I don't understand how that is possible -- and I cannot begin to imagine the mess.

Check these Microsoft articles for more info:

Did you check that your USB is FAT32 formatted (not NTFS)?

Thanks for the update Mauro. It'll be OK, even though you have to be without your PC for a few days. Hopefully they cover it for free under warranty. Please post an update when you get it back :)
