I decided to dedicate this thread to benchmarking the high-end S7 laptop. Since many of you have not been able to get your hands on the laptop yet, I'd like to give you an idea of what to expect.

    3DMark 06 Score - 9870
3DMark Vantage - (to be updated)

    The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
    Resolution: 1600x900
    AA: 4 Samples
    AF: 8 Samples
    Texture Quality: High
    Radial Blur Quality: Medium
    Shadow Detail: High
    Decal Quantity: High
    FXAA: unchecked
    Water Reflections: All checked
    Distant Object Detail: High

With these settings I'm getting a high of 32 fps to a low 18 fps.
I would say median fps is about 23 - 26 fps. If you want completely smooth framerates, medium settings should definitely get you there.

Tune in for more games as soon as I have them installed!

Is the 6750M manually switchable or dynamic type? Can you overclock?

My main requests were BF3 and Skyrim, and you have one done, and I heard BF3 has driver issues ATM so I guess you can't do that. SCII is a good idea as well. Hopefully the driver gets worked out for BF3 though cause thats what I really need.

Have you been able to get ATI Tray Tools working? When I try to launch it it says "Can not find ATI video board or no Catalyst drivers installed."

So last night, I attached my S7 to a 27-inch monitor, and started up Skyrim. OMG this machine is amazing. I have it on 1080p with a mix of medium to high settings, and it runs butter smooth.

Your not the only one I've been reading some people having trouble with 6000 series. I'm trying to work on getting it to work.

Edit one: Almost there. I have completely changed software. Now I'm not using under Samsung software. I can now download straight from AMD catalyst.
    from here http://leshcat.blogspot.com/
It's really nice just need some workaround and somehow keep 6750M on all the time. I'm having trouble getting out of Intel HD 3000.

Well I haven't been able to oc it But
I forgot how to show FPS on Sc2 for actual numbers.
But I able to play on high settings for everything. It lags in the beginning during loading the map and etc. But once it gets running it's fine.
    But I wouldn't recommend it becuase I was running at 70degrees +.

    Hello guys,

I own a Samsung Series 7 Chronos with an ATI 6750M GPU but I can't get games like Brink, Rage, ... running on this laptop.

I get OpenGl errors, because the Intel HD graphic card is automatically used instead of the ATI card.

I installated Catalyst 11.11 and set these games on high performance, but it keeps using the integrated Intel card.

Did you manage to get these kind of games working ? By precisely installing which drivers ?

    Thanks !

Are you plugged in and in high performance?
It weird but it sometimes takes time to kick in the ATI card.
Plus if it still using Intel HD 3000 only then go to switchable graphic and manually set the game to high performance.

I'm plugged in and the executable is set as high performance.

You can see some of the specs on this screenshot :

    http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/3497/atihd6750mproblemswitch.png

on top left, you can read "Intel HD graphics" whereas this game is also set as high performance. For both games the problem is that the computer tries to launch it with the Intel HD graphics instead of the ATI card and it results in an error since the Intel card doesn't support OpenGl 3.1

Maybe that some drivers are wrong/missing ? Did you install any drivers or did you manage playing your games right away ? I only installated Catalyst Control Center, (and some stuff like directX 10) but maybe that some Intel drivers are missing ?

Also, you can see on bottom right that dxdiag only displays the Intel HD graphics card.

This is a general problem with notebooks using AMD graphics. HP made a fix for that by providing a bios update so that you can manually switch between the integrated and the dedicated graphics card before booting. BUT it took a while and a lot of people for HP to do such a fix. Probably wont be easy to convince samsung to make such a fix for this laptop.

Is there any chance of getting a fix from AMD ?
I don't see why they put such a card in my laptop if it can't be used
XtremeProject, if you are able to test either Rage or Brink let me know.

Sadly not. AMD says its the problem of the Notebook manufacturers not theirs. At least, this is how they behaved with all other manufacuturers and I don't see a reason why they should act differently this time.

I ran Vantage a week ago, but I didn't record the score. I remember it was around 4700-4900 with 11.10 drivers. Better than notebookcheck's 4545. 11.11 drivers are probably slightly better too.

Is is completely safe ? I downloaded the previous release and when you start installing, it tells you that it's risked and that you are responsible for all damages on your computer, etc ..

It didn't sound like a regular informative text but more like a strong warning. What do you think ? Has somebody tried it ?

It's fine because they have to do that it just what 3rd party software also says. I tried it if it fails you can always just go back to Samsung site and reinstall it back to original. But of course it's up to you as long as you follow instructions in his guide you shouldn't go wrong.

Stupid question, but I am pondering the switch from m11x -> samsung 7 series as well. Does the auto switching of graphics work well? Or is there a manual fn+ button I can use like the original m11xr1?

I've noticed even with latest drivers, the optimus on the m11x is kind of spotty and requires you to manually whitelist the program.

This samsung series 7 seems awful nice, hits all my requirements for a future pc. Nice screen, good keyboard, good touchpad with multi touch (not our horrible m11x touchpad) and a decent graphics card in a portable chassis.

    Where did you purchase yours?

There's no manual switching for the S7 like it is fn+ button. Both nVidia and ATi seem to be moving away from that and deeming it as old technology. That's not to say automatic switching is ideal; if it was fine for you in the M11x R2, it should be a similar experience with the S7.

Personally, I never really had to bother whitelisting any games that I've thrown at the S7 so far, but other people running OpenGL applications seem to have to whitelist these applications.

On the other hand, I love the crisp screen, backlit keyboard with absolutely no flex, and smooth touchpad (I actually really liked the m11x texturey touchpad!).

One problem I'm having with the touchpad is that I accidentally drag things around when I didn't intend to. I think I have to play around with the settings to fix this, but I seem to have this problem with the S7, Macbooks, and every other trackpad with no separated buttons.

I agree, I have had a lot of experience with both the older mac book pros and the new unibody ones with that button less touchpad.

However, the size and versatility of multi finger inputs for me outweighs that annoyance of dragging. I do like the m11x texture and the buttons are fine, but its small and even with synaptics drivers, I am basically limited to 2 finger scrolling (much rougher than the macbook and I assume this samsung) and the corner taps. Thats it, no three finger swipe for back and forward, etc.

Looking forward to seeing more availability with this laptop. Seems like the only downside is that crummy wireless card, but that other thread seems to have almost solved it with the replacment.

After a full cleanup of my graphical drivers, installing leshcat MultiX: Catalyst 11.11 UnifL for Switchable Graphics fixed my problem, I'm now able to run Brink and Rage ! Thanks :) I should have dared to try this earlier !

But on the other hand I can't run 2D nor 3D acceleration in VirtualBox and when I try to launch VirtualBox I get the error message "loallibrary failed with error 126"

It's because it's not able to use OpenGL. It problem that started since Catalyst 10.
Try this if it can fix it.
This is not mine I just copy it from another person. I've read couple of people tried this and it worked.

I got the exact same error in Minecraft after installing the drivers. Uninstalling Java 7 64-bit and installing Java 6 32-bit instead fixed it. I'm not sure if VirtualBox uses Java, but it might be worth a try.

I would note that Cinebench includes an OpenGL benchmark which might provide a good guide if you don't have 3D CAD software.

Anyone had any luck with overclocking the gpu? All my research so far leads me to believe that it is the switchable graphics that is causing the problem. HP had something similar with the 6750m on their laptops until the users complained about opengl applications/wanting the option for manual switching and they had to release a bios update for the purpose.

Again, to stress the point, if anyone has had any luck with the gpu, please help continue the discussion. The 6750m seems to have great potential...if only it could be unlocked.

The results have been interesting for the mac users. The 6750m could be undervolted, so that essentially it draws less power, and then overclocked to better speeds than the 6770m at the same time, while still being stable and cool. If you have the time, give THIS a read.

That is the point, though. I don't believe anyone has been able to get into these features yet (I haven't seen a post saying otherwise). I have tried every utility there is (msi afterburner, trixx, att, gputool...everything). Even GPU-Z fails to show the correct information on the card as of yet. I have also tried all the driver packages from 10.5 onwards (including leshcat's). As of yet, none of these solutions seem to provide you with access. Currently, I'm running 11.11c (which I believe improves performance in the newer games).

Anyhow, the performance of this card is still very good. I had a 9661 on 3dMark 06 (can't run 3dMark 11 due to ongoing issues with the switchable graphics), and can run skyrim at high with aa on and anisotropic filtering @4, good frames. While being chased by dragons and flying monkeys.

there is a way to over clock download msi afterburner ( i would say the latest beta version) then enable unofficial overclocking mode in the afterburner (on how google it ) then disable ulps in the registry editor you can go to it by pressing start type regedit.exe and then click on drop down box of edit and then find "ulps" without quotes and change value of two values of enable ulps ( all possible entries) from 1 to 0( you can also google ) some very good guides with photos are available then reboot the windows (it is must) now you can overclock upto 780 for core clock then close msi program and start it again now you can overclock it to higher level but mind it gpu becomes highly unstable after 800 clock and then increase it in steps

    Hi Migitdiablo
Have you managed to get Skyrim options to show the AMD card? It will only show the intel card for me. The default tab sets the game to low quality setting, but the game runs ok on medium setting, getting an average of 23fps. When I installed the game it detected the intel card before I had a chance to configure the switchable graphics. I just don't know if it is using the AMD card and not showing it or is actually only using the intel card?
