I purchased the NP700Z5A-S01UK and after a couple of days relatively light use I was unable to boot windows. Anytime I powered the computer on it would bring me to a screen giving me the option to run system repair or safe mode. If I chose either I was simply brought back to the same screen and asked to select one of the same options.
I tried to use Samsung Recovery Solution 5 and it would not recognise that I had windows installed to enable me to run the repair function. The same problem occured when I tried to use the recovery disk.
I then tried a restore to factory settings in a bid to start over. Low and behold having done so, windows would still not boot, only this time telling me I hsd bootmgr missing. I couldn't run a system repair to get bootmgr as the computer wouldn't recocgnise that windows was installed.
So I sent the computer off for repair under warranty (the retailer no longer stocked the computer and was only able to offer a refund). The repair guys informed me that they had ordered a new HDD, believing the disk was the problem.
I was told today by the repair people that they were informed Samsung no longer stock hard drives for the series 7 and were therefore unable to repair the machine. Now I am to expect a call from Samsung, presumably to offer me a replacement.
ABSOLUTE FAIL. Gutted I decided to part with hard earned cash for this laptop.

You will get a refund. HDDs fail all the time, it can happen with any laptops, so why moan about it?!?

Storage devices are completely standard parts. If that's the best the repair people (BTW, who were they? - not the PC World bunch, I hope) can offer they you are better off dealing with Samsung directly.

It was Bennets in Dublin. LCD, Plasma, Camera, Camcorder, Laptop repairs Ireland - they are the authorised Samsung Warranty guys in Ireland apparently

Well, moan then - that won't get you the refund back any faster. The problem with HDD's is not Samsung's. It is due to the Thailand floods. There are no HDDs anywhere at a normal price - it is double now what it was 2 months back. That is why they don't want to replace it now, it isn't cheap
However, they will, especially if they've promised...so what's the point. If they don't, sue them. It's simple.

it's been weeks at this stage so I don't expect a sudden burst of pro activity on Samsung's part any time soon. They don't really care about this type of thing.

One alternative is to format the recovery partition since that looks like your problem. -

The hard drives are available. However, it's unclear to me whether you want a new HDD or a refund. The latter would be through the retailer. The 750 GB HDDs are a little scarce. They could always offer you a size bigger as compensation for the inconvenience. Perhaps you should drop the hint.

How much did you pay for the laptop do you mind me asking?
I'm in Ireland too, haven't see any for sale anywhere apart from the crappy Dixons model in PC World.
If your refund is over 1,126 you could get that and buy another one from Amazon.
Was tempted to get same laptop myself but the issues raised in these forums put me off it. I suppose if you read any of the forums here there'll always be problems to put you off any laptop! -

Should be a Seagate as they are advertised as 750 GB 7200 rpm ones.

The 750GB are 7200RPM drives. I have seen only Hitachi 7K750 750GB. The 1TB 5400RPM seems to be a downgrade in terms of speed and responsiveness.
Hopeisimpt - Get the refund, if they treat you this way and make you wait for weeks, what tells you that let's say if the mainboard dies they would not make you wait indefinitely again? -
