Turn off drag and drop! That was the most annoying thing. Also set the sensitivity to max and the two-finger scroll sensitivity also. Also I enabled double tap on the touch pad to be right click, it makes navigating a lot simpler.

 

Is there a way to make the left half of the pad inactive? My left palm causes the cursor to move "randomly". I've tried to adjust the palm tracking, sensitivity, etc to no avail. Many thanks.

 

You can turn the touchpad off completely with fn+F5.

 

So what's the deal with the touchpad? I'm seeing mixed opinions on other tech blogs.

The cursor keeps jumping repeatedly - this ELAN seems worse than the Synaptics I've had on my ENVYs.

 

Coming back to windows after a Mac, I find changing the right click to a single click intuitive. This way, I have a single click register, no matter where I click on the trackpad (for right click, I use the two finger tap). I've enabled the three finger taps as well as the four finger swipe.
Still, the pad is annoying. It is indeed very jumpy and the two finger scroll is not smooth, even after increasing/decreasing sensitivity. Specifically, it is difficult to use the two finger scroll for small selection boxes where scrolling is required (say, something like the "select folder" box while saving a file).

Larger windows, such as browsers are a lot easier to use once you get used to the pad.

 

I have to quite honestly say a bad touchpad would be a deal-breaker for me.

 

"Bad" is very subjective, specially so in this case. It is a good trackpad for a windows system....it's just that the mac is so much better that you tend to get spoiled.
My opinion is this: coming from any previous gen windows laptop, it is a definite improvement. There are multi finger gestures which make life a whole lot more comfortable.
However, if you are coming from a mac, even the white plastic gen. ones (that's what I had before the samsung), it feels like a step down.
It is big and the clicks feel nice. I would have been happier if it was dead in the center of the palmrest, but I can live with the off-center placement. Only real qualm I have is the scrolling, which has a "jumpy" feeling.

Definitely try it out before making a decision either way. What feels a certain way to one may not be another's opinion.

 

Anybody managed to eradicate the jumping cursor?

 

You know, it actually kinda settles down after a while. It's like it needs time to "break in". Or maybe it's just me kinesthetically getting used to to the pad. I don't feel it being as jumpy as the first day I got the laptop. Actually, my Mac feels more viscous and less "glidey" now.

 

Going back to my ENVY 14, which uses a Synaptics Trackpad, I feel that the Synaptics is a lot better.

Anyone with an optimum drivers setting? Please share!

 

I think that part of the issue (for me at least) is that I have a habit of leaving a finger on the button area. Works fine with traditional setups, but causes issues with integrated buttons. Just a learning curve thing, I think.

 

I'm having quite a bit of problems with the touchpad. I use Adobe programs like Illustrator and Photoshop which require you to press the spacebar while clicking on the touchpad. I noticed when I have any key pressed at all on the keyboard, it renders the touchpad clicks inactive. (The curser works fine, but I'm unable to click on anything)
This is quite frustrating. Does anybody else have that problem?

 

I am unsure of this but maybe try turning off palm protection if some form is on. I think that disables clicking while typing

I have updated the driver to 10.7.5.0 (available on the Samsung support website).



This seems (so far) to have eradicated the jumping cursor during typing. Here's hoping.

 

I can't believe that in version 10.7.5.0, they removed the ability for users to customize the left click and right click action for the bottom of the touch pad.

I previously made the entire lower portion of the touch pad for left click. This update made this customization entirely impossible. Are they forgetting that this touch pad has both left and right click area at the bottom? This is not MBP where the entire bottom portion can only be used as left click!

I don't know if I am missing something here. In version 10.0.7.3, the options are under "Button" section, if I remember correctly.

On the bright side though, the touch pad appears to be a lot more responsive, almost as nice as my wife's MBP! Palm tracking appears to be better as well! I also do not notice the weird issue where when you simply touch the touch pad to move the cursor, it accidentally registers it as the double click action, thus, resulting in accidental text selection on the screen.

Do you guys also notice that we can no longer set the sensitivity of the touch pad and the palm tracking?

Given the positives, I am not 100% about rolling back to the previous version. However, I am confused to why they removed so many options with this update.

 

I was shocked when I saw the controls for the 10.7.5.0 version. As you say, a bunch of things disappeared, particularly the sensitivity control.

As for setting the left/right button, at one time, I had them reversed on the previous version, because I found myself clicking the right button when I was aiming for the left - simply due to the large size of the trackpad. However, I have got used to tapping the main pad now, so I only use the left key for selecting text. Therefore, I can live with the new functionality.

Overall, I think the new version improves the usability of the trackpad, so I will not be rolling back.

 

I absolutely love this touchpad, after some tweaking in the settings it's great to work with.

 

Having installed 10.7.5.0, I now find the trackpad a little over-sensitive, and I find I am getting a few spurious taps and cursor moves.

The sensitivity control has disappeared, which is not very helpful.

In the short term I have installed "Touchpad Blocker" which is certainly helping prevent annoying cursor movements during typing.

I found the new update made the cursor even more jerkey! I've reverted back to the previous drivers for now, didn't really have a problem with the touchpad out the box

 

The only thing I lack is the possibility to change more things, especially the multi finger swipes, which doesn't seem to be configurable at all, along with some other things being extremely limited.

They should atleast offer an "advanced mode" which let you change it to whatever keypresses you want, with close to no limitations.

 

This is where Elan falls short when compared to Synaptics.

 

Is it just me or version 10.7.5.0 looks eerily similar to MBP TouchPad settings...I hope the next version would have those missing options returned.

 

Do anyone have the old drivers for download? 10.0.7.3 or whatever their number was?

 

Didn't notice until now you can draw 3 fingers left/right for navigating back and forward in Chrome. Very useful.

10.0.7.3 is the one I got with the machine, and it has more options than 10.7.5.0, but the later one makes it possible to disable one finger tap while keeping two finger tap, so I want to try that one out.

Just installed the new drivers, but doesn't look like you can disable one finger tap and keep two finger tap, even thou it should be possible since they have different checkboxes.

So basically unless there are some other important fixes with these drivers, the older drivers actually have more settings and features.

 

Can you suggest some settings? What do you use? What version of the driver are you on? TIA.

What I'd really like to do is decrease the sensitivity, and turn off right clicking. If I can live without it on the hubby's MBP, I can cope on this laptop. Most of the time I try to left click and end up hitting the other "button".

EDIT: I can't find the updated driver. Has anyone in the UK managed to update it?

 

i recently sold my imac and decided to get an ultrabook, precisely the zenbook, but all around in every forum, people are moaning about the sentelic toucpad some zenbooks use and evry1 wanting the elan touchpad. Then i come here and evry1's moaning about the elan touchpad, wanting the synaptics one. I had a synaptics on my HP dv6 and my thinkpad but never liked it, and personally think the Elan is awesome. Lol.

But seriously, I went to BB, the ux31's sentelic touchpad wasnt bad, but wasnt good either, but the Series 7 elan touchpad was definitely worlds better. I love it, and hardly can see any reason to moan about it. But my Series 7 should arrive in a couple of days from Microsoft store, so lets c if i decide to join you guys in ing about it or not!! But I am sure am glad to be part of this community.

 

It's human nature to complain about what you have, and want what you don't have thinking it might be better, until you do aquire it.

 

well it works pretty gud 4 me..i have single tap, double tap right click, drag n drop, tapping disabled, 3 finger back n forward, 4 finger swipe, etc. everythg works fine. i am looking for reils touchpad app tho...

 

The trackpad is one of the best I have used. I still have the older firmware, the one that came with the laptop. The multi touch is superb, scrolling down pages is a treat and going back with the 3 finger swipe is soo convenient, you'll really appreciate it. And it is so large you have so much space to play with!

 

Hi everybody. I'm a new user here, owner of the SERIES 7 CHRONOS too.
Sorry in advance for my english. I may have found a workaround to ease the use of the ELAN smartpad.

I downloaded and installed the driver Touchpad_10.7.11.5.ZIP on the SAMSUNG website in NP700Z5A-S0AUS section:

Then, in the X86 folder in the zip file, you willl find "ETDAniConf.exe"
If you run it, you will see that it is the "old config panel" that we had in the previous versions of the driver.

So, I just copied all the files from the X86 folder to C:\Program Files\Elantech (without replacing the files that already were in the elantech folder). And now, you can use ETDAniConf.exe to config your touchpad.

It is not perfect as, for example, the tap&drag option is only enabled if you check the edge scrolling in ETDAniConf.exe (weird), but at least, you can configure the sensitivity and the 3-finger middle-click.

Just recently purchased the Series 7. So far so good, but the only problem I have now is the trackpad. With the lastest driver, my trackpad has not working good as you guy stated. Not having issue with click or multi touch gestures, but I have problem while trying to move the cursor. At the default driver, the cursor is jumping when I trying to move around. However, with the new one, it kinds of been reducing, but I could not move around smoothly. When I move the cursor a distance, it would stop and not response. So is there any fix at all? I am not gonna use trackpad much, but sometime I will need it.

 

The 10.7.11.5 update gives more options for using ETDAniConf.exe than the version that was in 10.7.5.0. Four-finger swipe can now be assigned to run any .exe. It doesn't work very well - for me it only works on a 3 finger hold...

And also some new configuration options in the Button section of the One-finger page.

Also, after I updated from 10.7.5.0 to 10.7.11.5, ETDAniConf.exe was no longer installed. I had to pull it out of the zip file.

 

Do you mean copy all 86 files into the Elantech folder? Not just the ETDaniConf.exe?

Does that enable the old configuration panel when you access the options through mouse properties?

 

Just updated to 10.7.12_6 from Samsung Easy Software and I am pissed off.
It totally screwed up my production flow since to clickpad does no longer work..
I tried disabling the "one finger click" but then I could not tap or click..

What are they thinking? Why the f**k would you want a clickpad that you can't click???

 

So you mean 1 and 2-finger click stopped working? I guess you can just roll-back the driver to fix it, no?

 

i would like to know if there is a way to enable the "click" to work when your finger is anywhere on the touch pad rather than only at the bottom of the touchpad.

this is how my old mac book behaves in bootcamp (windows7), with right click working on the lower right corner and left click working wherever you click, and tap clicking disabled so as not to accidentally click.

 

This is how I have my pad on my S7 work. One click in bottom right corner is a right click and och click anywhere else is a left click.

As a bonus I have two finger click anywhere to be the same as right click, so I dont have to move my finger down to the right, just use two instead.

 

please share how you set it up this way i have the right click set as 2 finger, and that is working. but the actual click down on the pad only works in the corner

 

Hmm, the click feature have always worked for me all over the pad, never really did anything to get it to work. I think...

 

mine only works in the lower left corner is there something wrong with my touchpad?

problem solved driver changed to 10.0.7.3

the current driver is TRASH!!!!!!!!!! everyone should be running 10.0.7.3

 

Driver 10.7.5 is the best so far, then everything just work.

Don't update to the newest driver!! Then the clickpad won't work!!
