The only serious issue in my book is the poor wifi antennas. Beside this it's just minor flaws. And overall if you are not affected by the wifi problems it's awesome, light, great screen, great keyboard, great sound, great performance, good battery time and so on.

Anyone having issues with placing the laptop to sleep? Mine refuses to sleep when either the power button is pressed or lid is closed. The fan continues to run and the keyboard light stays illuminated. I confirmed the power setting show sleep for both the power button and lid closure.

is there any point in changing the wi fi card if it's a ariel problem i chose not to exchange my 5a for a 5c since it meant a 200 mile drive to store and i felt some of the problems that have taken months to solve would re occur

as for the touch pad its just about usable but i have a wireless mouse and turn it of at times
trouble here with the WiFi is if a add another dongle to usb2 for a external WiFi the ports are to close together to leave the mouse plugged in.
perhaps Samsung should have just put there label on a mac and tried to sell something that works

You should either seek a refund or exchange to Z5C. While Z5C has slightly better wifi card (Intel), it also uses Nvidia GPU that does not suffer from lack of AMD drivers.

Is there a 7mm size limit for SSDs with the NP700Z7C like there is for the NP700Z5 models? I'm hoping a 9.5mm SSD fits in the slightly thicker 17.3" :)

    Hello guys.

I am looking for a notebook for Illustration/Photography/3D modeling.
Some of you use it for any of this?
I need a decent cpu/gpu and a VERY good display (viewing angles - more or less sRGB color gamut - 1920x1080, etc). Mobility is not an issue.

I am considering the next options in order of relevance:
    1°-Samsung Series 7 Chronos NP700Z7
    2°-Asus Zenbook UX32VD
    3°-Asus N76VZ

    What do you think?
    Thanks a lot.

I have a Z5A and didn't list the A/B/C, because I thought they all had the SSD 7mm size limitation. Do you know if this is also true about the Z7C 17.3? I'd really like to get a 9.5mm ssd in my soon to be here 17.3 Chronos :)

I can't say for sure, because I have never disassembled the Z7. However, the Samsung 830 is one of the best SSDs out there and 7mm.

Samsung 700Z7C can use both 7mm and 9.5mm. Default HDD is 9.5mm, but 7mm fits just fine too without any adapter/foam etc.

    Where's the sensor located?

Apple notebooks have ambient light sensor as well, but the keyboard can still get pretty bright in a well lit room.

Did you actually replace your HDD with and SSD and if so which brand? I only ask because my current Z5A also came with a 9.5mm HDD, but I've seen people report having slight separation problems (top case/bottom case separation) when replacing the HDD with 9.5mm SSDs. I'm only trying to be empirical about this :)

BIG Thanks to JOHN LEWIS UK for there help shame ON Samsung for releasing a product to early.
all part of there race with apple

Is there a way to remove the keyboard keys from the top/front? So I can remove dirt and crumbs from below? Or do I have to disassemble the whole thing? I never had a chiclet style keyboard and idk if it hurt the keyboard if I just pulled out the key.

Use a brush to clean the slits. IIRC the keyboard is secured to the top cover from underneath.

Problem is the crumb is below the key. No way I'm going to reach that with a brush. And idk if compressed air will help. So the keys aren't indiviually replacable and the whole keyboard "unit" is attached to the top cover? That's unfortunate. Thanks for the answer!

You might be able to pull off a key and then clip it back on afterwards but I am not planning to try. While the keyboard is still working I wouldn't worry.

I mean you buy the brush used to paint walls. That can definitely reach and sweep out anything under your keyboard.

Thanks for the answers! I was very sceptical about the brush but I bought one of those you use for cooking with hair that is about 3 - 4cm long. Since the keys only have very little space to put the brush in I never thought it would work but it did, even with the key being sticky like hell.

There's a BIOS update. Anyone tried it out?

The small spaces are made so less dust and dirt can get into them! That way the keys should have any problems until this laptop gets outdated!

    Hi Everyone.

I have recently bought a Samsung Chronos (NP700Z5C-S04) and I wanted to ask if the temperatures of the computer are OK or not (since they seem to be high for me). I installed AIDA64 and the temperatures are the following (not gaming just surfing on the internet) according to the program:

    Motherboard: 55 Celsius
    CPU (core 1) 63 Celsius
    CPU (core 2) 59 Celsius

    Is it normal?

Thank you really much for your answer in advance!!

I would consider those temperatures to be reasonable provided the cooling fan is running very quietly. Most users prefer less noise rather than have the fan keep running more loudly to cool the hardware to nearer room temperature. While heat is bad for electronics, so are repeated temperature fluctuations (that's what killed the Nvidia GPUs a few years back).

Thank you for your Answer! I also considered that the computer is extremely quiet and this may cause the higher heat, and I believe that if its needed the fan would spin at a higher RPM.

Run a CPU benchmark program such as wPrime and see whether the fan becomes more active. You may need to run the 1024M test to give enough time for the heat to build up. If you have the HWiNFO sensors tab (or other temperature monitoring program) open at the same time you can relate the fan activity (as indicated by the noise) to the temperature.

Hi guys. I was upgrading the ram to crossfire. I thought it was possible to upgrade to 16gb because this Motherf... said so while disassembling the device Samsung 7 Intel i7 3615QM Nvidia 650M 17" Laptop SSD & Memory Install by Paul Nelson - YouTube
And because of him I unscrewed everything and flipped the motherboard and surprised to not to find any other ram slot. While cursing the guy I put the 8gb new ram and reassembled the device and hoped that it would work but it didnt. :( Device turns on every thing starts working including the hdd but screen doesnt come on. I tried 2 more times to disassemble and reassemble but with the same result. Does anyone experienced enough to guide me . I dont wanna take it to the service and say I screwed up because then they would charge me :(

And I have one more question if any of you guys would be kind to answer. Since that we can only upgrade up to 12 gb maximum currently, does it matter what kind of ram you upgrade to regarding the speed like 1600mhz and the latency ... did any of you guys upgraded this little monster to its maximum ???
Thx in advanced for both of my questions and just to be clear with my previous post My screen doesnt come on and keyboard backlight doesnt come up and I cant even tell if it is capable of booting to the windows r not because I left my Backtrack 5 bootable DVD inside and Fn+Del doesnt do anything. And since there is no other way to eject a dvd from this Dvd-rom I dont know what to do. I have already tried vga and hdmi port with no success :( Any help would be greatly appreciated ...

If you can get into BIOS (F2) Eject should work to get that DVD out - unless there is a mechanical defect.

I have bought a German keyboard layout NP700Z7C, and I would like to have the American (or International) layout instead!! So is there any possibility for me to find or purchase a replacement keyboard, or is my options limited??? as I couldn't find any part number nor Samsung genuine parts!!

The first obstacle is that I believe that the European keyboards have one more key that the US models (usually next to the Enter key, which becomes smaller). This means that the whole top of the computer has to be changed because of the separated keys. I see no keyboard at Samsungparts.com but there is a " Unit housing top" which I wonder is the complete keyboard surround and palm rest with integrated keyboard. I would also note that the corresponding part for the Z5C has "US" at the end of its description, suggesting that the part is country-specific.

Quick question - how do I enter BIOS on this model (np 700z7c s02se)?
During the POST screen it says press F2 for setup, F4 for recovery.

I assumed that F2 was the key to enter BIOS settings but all that does it push me directly to the OS-selection menu.

Thanks. it was solved by turning off fast-boot (im on windows 7 ultimate, not win8 BTW) but I'm just not sure how you would recover from problems (say an OS crash) if that feature was already enabled since you'd need either a working OS or access to the BIOS to turn it on again.

I guess the trick is somewhere in how the system handles "shut down" and "restart" and such - and that it would probably let you into the BIOS via some sort of automatic mechanism if for whatever reason the OS wasn't working. At least I would assume that some sort of failsafe like that exists otherwise it would be asking for trouble.

I will just have to experiement a little I guess. Thanks for the useful reference material in any case.
