Huh, wonder how he managed that, as Windows doesn't recognize it as a hybrid on mine. Win 8 didn't even recognize it as a Hybrid when I had it installed. Different OS environments I guess. Something he has that we/I don't that allows windows to recognize it.

I will be installing windows 8 soon though. Only thing is I'll be installing to my SSD. Guess that doesn't help. Though it does bring something up, anyone who has installed Windows 8 and is fully updated may be able to answer if it recognizes a hybrid drive now.

And Windows 8 Install did NOT happen. I went to install it, where it ask for my key, I used the same key I used before for this laptop. Micro$oft said it wasn't valid and had already been used on a DIFFERENT computer. So I call the toll free number the activation asked me to. Put in the long series of numbers and guess what.... it couldn't find a valid set! So the computer answerer said please wait while I connect you to an actual person. I thought ok, we'll get this resolved quick then. WRONG! I was on hold for an hour before finally saying screw it I'll just re-install windows 7! I am DONE buying Micro$oft software, sure I will take what's on a computer, but I'm gonna find replacements for everything else. (Libreoffice I hear is a really good M$ office replacement. The only way I'll take M$ software is if someone bought it for me as a gift. (I didn't ask for it, they just bought it, thinking maybe I needed/ wanted it.) What that phone call for me felt like was M$ treating me like a pirate. I already activated W8 on this SAME computer! Why the heck do I need to call in to re-activate it? Grr, M$ has me all steamed up!

Thats completely stupid. M$ KNOWS people do re-installs of their OS. So this means every time I may need to re-install w8 I will have to call it in? BS! I'm not mad at the message bringer just M$. That makes me even more determined to NOT spend my own money on M$ software. I don't care if it's $5 or $500 (defiantly not $500, that's for sure.) Treat me like a pirate? Ugh. I'm done. Back to Windows 7, I'm not wasting my time to call to activate a product I BOUGHT LEGITIMATELY just because it has a 1 time activation. I could understand calling if I needed to move to a different computer, but for the same computer?! Yeah, screw it. One less computer with Windows 8. I'll stick with Win 7.

Hey guys, got my gamer notebook this Christmas & decided to get all my software transfered to it and it running smoothly and then I'd clone my hard drive to a crucial ssd M4.

I finally got it all installed yesterday & can't get the ssd to boot. I assume the problem has something to do with the built in mini ssd these things have, but after 2 days I'm surfing the web to try to figure it out.

How do you get it to boot from the cloned ssd?

Wow. That indeed sucks. Libreoffice is good but it is not fully compotible with ms office. If you make libreoffice presentation and try to run on a MS office software it will likely fail. So if u need to run on a different computer keep in mind that computer needs libreoffice too otherwise you may have problems.

What does it do or say? not booting is such a generic question.

Off topic, the best way to screw M$ is to not use even M$ comatible software. What would happen to them if they had to match competitors?

While I do agree with that, unfortunately, I need to use Old Windows 7 as I have way too many Steam games that are Microsoft Games. Not to mention other software that is Windows only. Mark my words though, as soon as a version of linux comes out that can play M$ games and software 100% I will be jumping ship. My friend and I made that pact a long time ago. (That will happen sooner or later, though knowing my luck it'll be later.) While I know that there are distros of linux that has WINE and such, it's just not there enough for me to jump ship. The whole point of having the laptop we have is to game, and the only OS that can fully game is M$ Windows. Not even OSX has all the games Windows has (though it has come a long way, still look at the most expensive Mac, compare specs to our's or any other pc, windows pc's can have higher specs. This raises another debate, that we aren't going to.) Ultimately, for now I'm just better off, using what I have and finding free alternatives to M$ software where ever and when ever I can. Honestly, I still am using Office 2007 (The Enterprise Version, I think), and may end up keep using it until M$ finds a way to force me to upgrade or I lose usage of that, and it was a gift from a friend so I didn't spend money on it. I have never seen a reason to upgrade past that, and honestly never saw a reason to upgrade to '07. Unfortunately M$ has us on a ship that once we all get on there is a certain point where you really can't jump off unless you wish to lose a lot of money, (which I am not ready to, thanks to stinkin steam, I have over 200+ games in my library and only about 10% (if that) of them I think have a linux version. (Granted steam sales are great.)

My ultimate point is from now on, if/ when I need software, I am going to look for a free alternative, and look longer and harder than normal before resorting to buying a M$ software.

Some of you may think I am over reacting. Since I only paid $15 for the upgrade. But it's the point. Treat me like a pirate and I may just become one. (This is why I like Indie stuff, usually they don't have drm or anything. Though there are a few big name companies that have released pc games that have very little protection and work off the thought of "if someone pirates and likes the game they will buy it in due time, and that may be a sale that we wouldn't have had otherwise." Also I read somewhere that if companies didn't spend so much money on anti-piracy crap for their games, the games would be cheaper and it makes sense.

My biggest point to companies is: Stop treating everyone like pirates, and maybe we won't be pirates. We don't like being tied down, so don't do it.

My biggest issue is I am stuck with certain M$ products until I can find free (or very low cost, non-windows os that can do everything Windows can just as good if not better, with M$ products (unfortunately) the games mainly. As I just have too much invested into that. The other issue is my friends/ co-workers/ work place may not allow me to get away, so while I may want to, until there is a linux distro that can pretty run Windows software to the core, I'm stuck. I just won't buy M$ where ever I can help it.

I thank you for reading my rants and any responses you may have and feel that I have de-railed this thread some. So, if anyone wants to actually respond, please private message me so we don't continue de-railing.

No, mine don't but I don't always use them, I usually have my laptop hooked into some desktop speakers or a headset, but when I do use the speakers, they don't make any funny noises. Only if I adjust the dolby sound to high and have the volume maxed or something. But not with normal volume of stuff.

Since I am now not going to Windows 8 with this machine I've decided to look into linux. I am trying out Ubuntu 12.10 now. Linux seems to have come a long way but not too sure if it is there yet. I am running as dual boot and once I find the M$ substitute I'll dual boot until I can give up M$ all together..................

Dang it I just missed the $1299 deal from Amazon, it was yellow & came with a 7870m.

I'm curious does these model have a msata slot & besides using the optical bay as a HDD, there is 2 sata 3 slots?

I do not remember seeing a msata slot. The express cache is an imbeded issd chip. The two hdd slots are SATA III but I think the DVD slot is SATA II.

Try Mint. I gave up on Ubuntu once they came out with Unity and have run with Mint ever since. Their Cinammon desktop is ok but the Kde edition is super (imo).

I am trying Ubuntu because of the interface, Unity. I was hoping all would be well but I can see where aothers are saying you have to constantly tweak it (VLC and BR). Hardware wise it seems to work well, while keyboard fn brightness does not work FN+, F5-F8 do. Mint may be my next look though if Unity is a fail..........

Hey everyone, I may be leaving this thread (still help out if I can though.) But I have been looking for a more portable solution. This laptop is lovely and I love it. But I'm looking for something a bit more portable now that I am going back and forth to school. Since I don't have the cash to do so I will be getting rid of this laptop.

Specs of a laptop I am looking at though are as follows:

    15.6" 1920x1080 Display
    Intel Core i7 3630QM 2..4GHz, 3.4GHz Turbo boost- Intel HD 4000 Graphics
    8GB DDR3 Ram
Probably 750GB 7,200RPM HDD (I can use my portable usb 3.0 drives for extra storage if needed.)
GTX 660M 2GB GDDR5 Graphics card (it does support Optimus, and while I don't like optimus too much, I have read that it has had some great leaps since I first tried it. (Probably a year or 2 at most ago.)

What do you think of the specs? I mostly play Sims 3, Sims 2, Command and Conquer 3, Red Alert 3, Dungeon Defenders, a little GTA 4 and Just Cause 2, Both Torchlights. Think this will hold me awhile? Play the games I currently play on the Sammy at fullHD and High Details?

I used to have an Asus Gaming laptop that had the GTX 460M and it was pretty good. The GTX 660M looks somewhat better, but not as good as the GTX 675M in the Sammy. From the looks of it I will be getting better portability, and a slightly more powerful cpu, but less gpu and ram (I understand I can go to 16GB but the laptop only has 2 slots so I would have to get 2x8GB.) Sill wondering if it'll do what I want and have used the Sammy for.

A brief glance and it looks nice, but I didn't see anything about prices, not to mention at the cost of the Sammy I have now I don't have the money to get a newer even better AND smaller laptop. From what I can see, those will be a complete upgrade over my Sammy, specs and everything, not to mention be in practically a ultra portable. (Which will drive up the cost as well. Pretty much we are looking at the current Sammy in a ultra portable. (Ultra portables are expensive as is. Let alone gaming.) I'm not 100% certain I can manage that price range.

I'll have to look into a little more when I have the time, but for now, I'm still stuck with the needing to go more portable. (Specially if these ultra portables end up costing as much as my Sammy did. (I don't have money to just toss around willy nilly. I might even just decide to lug the Sammy around. (Which is more likely the more I look.)

Has anyone had issues with the touchpad re-activating after turning the laptop back on from sleep? I turn the touchpad off all the time because I use a Logitech G700 Gaming mouse but every time the laptop comes out of sleep I have to turn the touchpad back off. I could completely disable it I know. But there are times I do have to use it. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue and if/ how you fixed it.

hey i was just scrolling through my computer specs and came across DxDiag. So i went ahead and performed this, and it says that my computer is" Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.3GHz "
    but shouldnt it be 2.30GHz (8CPUs), ~ 3.2 GHz?

if you can, go to the windows start button, in the search box enter DXDIAG and it should pop up. if ANYONE with a gamer 7 can verify this is correct and not something i have to talk to samsung reps. about, that would be great. thanks.

Install and run HWiNFO so you have the speed display for each CPU core then run the wPrime CPU benchmark with different numbers of threads. You may only get the maximum CPU speed when running one thread. (This is my best guess - I await your findings with interest).

Will I'm keeping my Samsung, I just can't find an affordable portable laptop right now that could even scratch the surface of the performance of the Sammy. So I'd rather lug this baby around and have it's performance then a smaller laptop and not be able to do as much with it. Not to mention I still absolutely LOVE the keyboard on the Sammy!

I've noticed the 675M version is showing as discontinued in some online retailers and is replaced by the weaker 7870M version.

I suppose we'll be seeing a possible refresh to a stronger GPU later this year if they plan on keeping this model up to date.

Greetings! Who has purchased a bag for the NP700G7C and are happy with their choice. This thing is heavy but my son wants to take it around with him. Open to style options (backpack, messenger, etc.).

I have the 17" Sony laptop backpack. Plenty of pockets and fits the S7 Gamer well.
Amazon.com: VAIO Gamer / Multimedia Backpack: Computers & Accessories

I've seen it cheaper, so it may be worthwhile to wait a little bit if you can.

No, you can use M$ default drivers etc. I think M$ default also supports raid now too if you have a SSD.

Hey all, I just bought the SO2 version of the NP700G7C the other day from amazon while it was on sale for $1599 and was wondering what if anything I should do to improve the game performance for this laptop.

I have never overclocked anything and do not know what the safe levels are for this card or computer, I have read most of the post on here and have to say it was a big factor in the choice of buying this computer. I noticed many of you placed a larger SSD in the computer too. As with overclocking I know little about the exact effects of this or how to change it out.

Any help is appreciated as I want to get the best gaming experience with this laptop for as little money as possible. This is by far the system for the price out there still imo.

There are two primary SATA III bays for 9.5mm 2.5" drives. There is then a SATA II 12.5mm bay for the DVD drive. The express cache is an soldered on drive. Since this may be the same main board from the S01, it is probably the same 8gb express cache setup.

I seem to run well at 700/1700 for clocks. Some have gotten a bit more on the video. The SSD to me was well worth it but expect to do a fresh install of the os. Now sure if win8 will have the same issue imaging from HDD to SSD as win7 but most have not had success with an image transfer.
