Thanks for the info. Just looking to do light browsing and videos on battery. Otherwise, its plug for gaming. Maybe looking to get this for my brother. Somewhat better on my m17x r4, the battery life but like you imply, its not a big issue as its a gaming laptop primarily.

If you download windows updates the samsung drivers for mode shift and a few other programs fail... You must download the samsung windows updates from sw updater. You will have to system restore to factory settings in order for that to stop... But it doesn't really matter because it is just an animation. Just make you turn off automatic windows updates if you do restore. You could reinstall the drivers and see if that would work. It happened to me when i first got it so i didnt care to system restore because i had no files.

Are the fan speeds for this machine set automatically to 100% they seem to stay at that level no matter what. Even when no games are running. Just wondering what kind of fan speeds you guys are running.

For me it always says 100% on msi afterburner and EVGA Precision X. Though it isn't running at 100% as I can tell the difference. Like when I am gaming I can FEEL the hot air being blasted out the back like a mini space heater compared to just normal use where it's hardly blowing at all.

lol thanks. I was scared because i didnt want my fan to die. So fan speeds are unchangeable through msi afterburner?

Yep, And you can tell the difference yourself! :) Put your hand behind the laptop on the left (facing like your using the laptop) the left vent should barely be shooting any air out on normal use. But play a hardcore game and after about 10 minutes check that same vent, bet your feel a mini heater back there. lol. Including air being blown out with more force. There's your difference! I wouldn't trust the fanspeeds on programs when it comes to laptop's as most programs are designed to read the desktop stuff for the most part. (Due to the fact that fans on laptops usually have a different setup for programs to read.

Can you run HWiNFO in the background and have it writing a log file with the battery charge status?

AFAIK it is because of some stupid windows 8 update.

Those which are starting with K28 are causing the issue. You may delete them

I installed Win8 on my S01US and everything works. Just use the Samsung SW Updater. Also, shifting modes is all hardware.. Apparently it does what it does regardless of the software reporting it.

I was perusing BH photo and I noticed the new S02US has the 3630 CPU which bumps that up 100Mhz.. (3-4%) not that it'll really make a difference but worth noting I suppose.

ModeShift is not compatible with Windows 8 hotfix KB2819372 (Flash Player update). Just uninstall KB2819372 Update.

    hi everybody!

I bought this laptop two days ago. (NP700G7C-S02TR)

but,I have some problems with that :(

1- when switching game mode, a pop up appears saying modeshift stops working.

2- connection dropouts and slowdowns recur when playing online games like DOTA - LEAGUE OF LEGENDS-... (ping changes between 60 to 250.)

if there are nothing to solve these problems, I think I will return this laptop to store where i bought.

See the comment above about Windows Update KB2819372 breaking modeshift.

Are you connecting via WiFi? If so, go to Intel and download (and install) the 19 March 13 driver for the 6235 WiFi card. It has improved various connectivity issues.

Also, have you run Samsung's SW Update to see what other updates are available?

    John[/QUOTE]

I have already installed newest update for 6235 wifi card but still slowdowns and dropouts recur, then I have read another forum about that issue. someone wrote that he fixed that issue by installing 12 March 12 driver. then I installed it as he said . after installation the dropouts stopped but when playing League Of Legends ping rate suddenly changes between 60 to 250.

we have two pc's at home both of them connect via WiFi. other pc's ping is always 60.

    1. It's quite possible that the WiFi driver still has some bugs. Suggested settings are here.

    2. You can also check the WiFi signal strength and conflicting signals from other routers using InSSIDer. It's possible that the G7C shares the problem of sub-par WiFi that occurs in the other 2012 Series 7 and Series 9 (the basic problem, IMO, is the antennae location along the back edge of the chassis).

    3. If you have a dual band router then you can check if there is a performance on the different bands.

InSSIDer will show the WiFi signal strength and also if you have competing signals on the same channel.

If you are in the same room as the router and the signal is in the -30dB to -50dB range then the signal strength shouldn't be a problem. However, if you are in the same room as the router then a fixed network cable is a much more reliable solution.

i have downloaded this program and it shows my signal strength is -50dB, there are 5 co-channels, and 1 overlapping ( sometimes it shows 0 )

can i change my channel or settings with this ?

The new driver has definitely given improvements on my NP900X4C. The other half of the connection is the router settings. WiFi has improved over the years but isn't completely hassle-free.

You would need to go into the router settings to change the channel it uses. That is worth doing if you can see a part of the range that doesn't overlap with the stronger signals from the neighbours.

MXM cards can fit (search this thread and others) but the problem is that the video bios in the gamer 7 is integrated into the main bios. You would have to hack a new vbios into your main bios. High level of bricking potential.

Edit: I like this laptop and it's performance is still plenty fast enough for new games at good detail levels, but my next upgrade will be to a unit with a proper mxm slot that is upgradable. Probably not until well into 2014.

non upgradable video is not a deal breaker for me. Then again I am not a gamer buying a gaming system, just a power user. I can say before this system though I almost went to a system with MXM..............

I am having drop-off's like once in an hour but it varies sometimes once in 3-4 hours sometimes thrice in half an hour. I think this is caused by the new driver but i couldnt find the driver before 15.6 on intel's website. Am i missing something?

Rollback the driver to the previous one. The recently released driver has major problems. The one that works great for me is 15.5.6.48. The broken new one is 15.6.1.20

Awesome. There's a gigantic thread about it over on Intel's forums as well. I use an Asus RT-n66u and my wireless-n throughput and stability is fantastic with the previous driver. I think I'm just going to go against my driver update OCD with this adapter and use the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I've had the laptop for a couple of weeks now and for the most part everything has been working fine. I've had the modeshift problem like others and haven't been able to fix it. Like the poster above, I can't seem to find the hotfix that was mentioned to have caused the problem. But that I can live with but has anybody out there had any issues with the webcam? I tried using it for the first time today and no matter what application I tried it with (google hangout, yahoo messenger, Skype) the webcam is really dark and there does not seem to be any way to improve it. I've tried different lighting to see if that was the problem but it just seems like the webcam is not calibrated properly. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? Or if need be, is there a driver I can reinstall/update for it? I've checked the Samsung website as well as the SW updater and cant seem to find anything that would help.

If you are on windows 8 use the default camera application and tune the settings there. This camera is absolute so don't expect anything from it. I suggest getting a real webcam if you are planning to Skype alot.

For people with the mode shift problem....to fix it you gonna have factory restore and possible uninstall and reinstall the modeshift software after the restore for the animation to work. There is a ton wrong with the software in the system...the hardware is great but all the bs that samsung puts in the pc is just plain dumb.
If you used the windows automatic updates then problems may occur. Im not trying to fearmonger or anything but i suggest just using the sw updater. Or just don't update anything at all. Everything seems to be working out of box. After multiple software problems i just decide not to touch windows software at all. GLHF

Mode shift knob still does what it's supposed to with clocks and adapters as far as I know without the software installed. The first thing I did with this thing was figure out how to get rid of that animation and themes. :) it's not a bad thing that it doesn't work IMO.

No. There is one with an 7870M, which is noticeably slower for a gaming notebook. I'm sure if it's possible you can find the 675M version shippable to Canada if you search online retailers.

It's definitely a conundrum as both the 7970M and 680M are a big enough jump in performance that buying this laptop knowing it is somewhat questionable at this stage. I really like the overall package but if I was doing it now instead of June last year when I bought it I would probably get something else. I still love it and will hang onto it until games no longer play well at high details at 1080p, but the two new GPU have put the gamer 7 to pasture when billed as a top performing gaming notebook. The part of the decision that's difficult is it's a uniquely attractive package if you can deal with not having the best GPU and not being able to upgrade said GPU to fix the performance gap yourself.

My friend bought the 7870M version and has been very happy with it. Of course he is coming from an old Toshiba with an i3 2330M, 6GB RAM and Intel HD3000 Graphics. I'll try to get him on here so he can put is 2-cents worth on this version.

On an unrelated note, I just bought an ultra portable gaming laptop. (Never thought I would put those words together.) I'm using it more then my Samsung. Though that probably just due to it being new. I won't be getting rid of my Samsung anytime soon and the GPU and CPU outdo the Ultraportable. But the Samsung just became my "Desktop".

I have the Win8 version of the NP700G7C-S02UK on order, but i cannot find any Win8 drivers to do a clean install, their are only Win7 drivers on the Samsung UK website is there anywhere else i can download them from?

I suppose they might be stored on the notebook somewhere when i get it, but i was just wondering while i was waiting.

    Thanks

The only download that Samsung now offer is SW Update. Install it and should find all the driver and software downloads for your model (but you get to choose what to install). Personally, I find it easier to uninstall the few things I don't want rather than do a fresh installation.

You should also run Samsung Recovery Solution on your new machine. The options include making a backup disc (or flash drive) with all the software and drivers as installed on the machine when you get it.

All you have to do is not install/uninstall the drivers for it. It's a good idea if you're migrating to an SSD as it's much slower and you don't want it enabled.

I don't know if you will fall foul of this problem. That thread has gone relatively quiet so maybe Samsung have fixed the cause, but you should be aware.

Has anyone had trouble running dual monitors through vga and hdmi on this laptop? I am thinking about buying dual 23" LED IPS monitors, they have a super thin bezel so would be prefect for stretching to a dual monitor setup. They also have Digital (HDMI with HDCP and DVI-D with HDCP) and standard analog D-sub inputs. But I wanted to make sure before taking the plunge on the monitors. (I do not plan on running the laptop's screen at all, though it would be cool if it could run all three.) It's going to be a "Desktop" for now. Thanks in advance.
