Samsung Series 7 Laptop Questions -- Touchpad

Hi, I have a couple quick questions about the trackpad on the Series 7 laptop.

Are you able to physically click down the top left and right parts of the mouse? The top 1/4 or so of the touchpad is unable to be pushed down at all.

When I lying in bed with the laptop against my knees, it's tilted. When it's tilted like this, I can't click down the touchpad at all. The plastic part joining the aluminum gets pushed forward and prevents me from being able to click anything. I can actually push on this part of the laptop and it starts dragging stuff around if you move the cursor because it actually activates the clicking somehow.... You can hear it click when you do that.

Is my touchpad faulty, or does this sound like something that happens with this type of touchpad?

Only the bottom left and right parts of the pad can be pushed down. Effectively the pad in this area covers the buttons. All the other functions are by tapping or stroking with one or more fingers for which the location on the pad is irrelevant.

On the 700Z5A I can press down everywhere on my pad, and for me that is an important feature. I doubt they removed it on the newer models.

 

I have a 14" model, I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

 

Not sure if the 14" version has a clickpad, but the 15.6" one does. I'll look around and see if I can find any info about your machine.

 

I was looking into getting a model like this. You're saying that the touchpad is essentially unusable when the screen is tilted because the plastic part forces it down? Does anyone have any insight as to whether or not this is common or fixable?

 

I've never been in any situation where the clicking of the pad doesn't work as intended, but I do have a different model...

 

I fiddled around with my computer some more and can now clarify some of the touchpad issues.

1. No ability to physically click the touchpad on the top 1/4 of the touchpad. Pressing in this area does not depress it at all.

2. Tilting - Tilting the laptop past about 45 degrees removes the ability to click down the pad at all in any area. It gets worse as the laptop is tilted more (edit: as in, it starts off just clicking more faintly, but then gradually gets to the point to where it doesn't click at all as the angle increase). I frequently have my laptop tilted when on my bed, lying down with my knees up (and the laptop being against my knees) if that makes any sense, and I noticed this last night.

3. Plastic being able to click - On the 14" model there's the indent on the bottom of the model for opening the computer. Just under the right side of this indent, where the plastic joins the aluminum, I can press on the plastic (not very hard at all) and you can actually hear a click. Somehow it actuates the touchpad. Yes, I can even click on things that are on the screen. I noticed this while lying down as I mentioned above and the bottom of the laptop was against my belly. I was trying to move the cursor around with my finger but everything kept dragging. When I lifted the laptop, it stopped. I then pressed on the plastic and realized that something was wonky. I can even do this while the laptop is just sitting on my desk.

Hope this clarifies the issues. I am still within my return period, so I'm trying to assess if these are model issues or I got a lemon. Either one is a bit disconcerting.

 

On my 15" model:
1. top 1/4 of the touchpad does not have a physical click

2. Tilting the laptop does not appear to affect its function in any way.

3. my model has a metal palmrest - single piece for both keyboard and palmrest. no issues with that regarding touchpad.

 

I don't mean that there is plastic on the top. I mean the plastic on the front of the laptop flexes and clicks. The aluminum on the palmrest joins the plastic.

 

No issues with mine re: front casing.
