6GB will run in assymetric dual channel which gives almost full dual channel performance.
My memory bandwidth measurements using SiSoftware Sandra for PC10666 RAM in Lenovo T420s are:
1 x 4GB = 8.9 GB/s
1 x 4GB + 1 x 2GB = 16.7 GB/s
2 x 4GB = 18 GB/s

asia.cnet.com is reporting mid-November: Samsung unveils Series 7 laptops - Crave - CNET Asia
-
I asked one of the major Swedish companies about delivery date, and they said that their supplier had told them November.
He didnt have an exact date, but atleast it's on the way pretty soon it seems. -
Hi all,
I found a norwegian review of the 700z3a, and it seems like the notebook is excellent! They didn't even complain about the screen!
Here is a link:
Test: Samsung Series 7 700Z - DinSide Data
The same site, with google translate (for you none nordic guys out there)
Google Translate
I hope there will be plenty more reviews in the following week! -
Thanks Yamgun.
-
Nice review. Hope more will show shortly, and more importantly, hope the notebook itself will be available shortly.

Samsung sucks. After waiting for the release of this laptop, I will gladly go with the first available alternative.
Like everyone else, I've been anticipating it but I'm tired of the fuzzines behind the release date. Then that watered-down version at best buy ?
Where's the damn laptop already ? -
It's not cool or cute, there is no Samsung fan club like there is Apple, but at least when Apple says something will be available on a certain date, it is. -
Whats the dpc latency of the Samsung series 7 models? I wonder if they would work for music production.
Does anyone own this laptop yet? If so could you test it with this program?
DPC Latency Checker -
Just found this on Samsungs US webpage:
Samsung
So they have started updating the software/drivers for it and making it available, so it really should be "on the way" very soon. -

One of the Swedish online store has a "confirmed" delivery date set at 2011-11-24.
-
I just ordered mine from the Microsoft Store. They said it will ship today and qualifies for the $100 store credit. We shall see when it gets here tomorrow.
-
Is the screen good on this version? A lot of people are complaining about the 15.6 versions screen.
-
Good luck! -
Either way its a 14" Matte 1600x900 screen, and just that alone makes me a bit excited. -
-
-
I ordered one yesterday from microsoft store with overnight delivery. Never got a verification e-mail, msft claimed that my credit card wasn't approved. While re-doing that, the person said "wait a minute, can you hold for 10-15 minutes? I just need to verify the availability of the product".
edit: supposedly they do have it and it will be shipped soon. somehow i still feel slightly skeptical -
I got my email confirmation this morning. No shipping info yet though.
-
Holding my thumbs that you get it. Would really like some hands on feedback on it.
-
Just got info from a Swedish retailer saying that the 14" model does NOT have the 8GB Express Cache according to their info, only the 15" model has that. Which is sad since the US specs are with Express Cache on the 14".
Also they say they have no info if it has Backlit Keyboard or not.
Hope they just haven't gotten the correct/full info yet. Release date is still set for 24th November. -
Looks like the Microsoft Store dropped the ball. I just spoke with the supervisor, it seems it did not ship out in time (he apologized as there was no reason for the delay). He'll refund my overnight shipping and will monitor the situation and said more than likely it will go out today for a Monday arrival.

Just saw the new Dell XPS 14, looking good and they go with the same screen combo as samsung, 14'' screen with 13'' body, but from looking at the laptop dimensions its look like the same size as any other 14''.
I cant wait too long for this laptop, so maybe ill just buy this one. -
The Dell XPS 14z uses a lame 1366x768 screen.
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/laptop-review-dell-xps-14z-intel-core-i5-nksk-1607
Not that I expect a lot from the panel Samsung uses but it will at least be brighter and have a better resolution. -
I'm still secretly hunting for the person responsible for making 1366x768 a standard on notebooks.
He/she will feel my WUXGA wrath! -

The Samsung isn't entirely known but it's highly unlikely it will be any better.
The Dell has a glossy screen, contrast and colors will look a bit better because of that. -
Help!! so if we are not expecting the screen to be a good one then I am stuck!
So which laptop then has the best quality screen?!
I got the Sony SA 3 months ago and already sold it (lost 600$!) just because I could not get passed the crappy screen (shame Sony), and also the noisy fan..
I have been waiting for this laptop because of the 300 nits brightness and also Samsung usually makes good screens..
so now what!? what laptop should I go for.. I do not care about performance anymore.. I need a lightweight laptop with nice screen (contrast and brightness..), does not matter glossy or not
what do you think? -
-
I dont mind paying extra money to get a premium screen.. because the SE will be such a downgrade compared to the SA (not portable in terms of size or weight).. -
I am waiting on maximum360 to comment on the screen of the Samsung once he gets his (hopefully tomorrow).. if he says the screen is above average, I am ordering mine from Microsoft store right away..
We are all waiting maximum360! tell us what you think? -
The SE is really light, just under 4.4 lbs, which is close to the 14" Series 7. -
I'm a programmer. Small vertical pixel counts are just not acceptable, for my purposes. I absolutely refuse to step down from the 800 vertical on my old 13" laptop (which already feels too short for me). This rules out the vast majority of the light laptops out there, right now, because of that accursed 768 standard vertical resolution. I mean, for Pete's sake, my daggone IPAD can do that much. I expect more than that from my workhorse. -
Oh yes, while I was ranting, I forgot to mention:
I am also waiting on one of these from the Microsoft Store. I ordered mine (overnight shipping) on the 3rd. I received my initial confirmation mail, but like the others, I have yet to see any shipping information, whatsoever. I guess they haven't quite worked out all the kinks in their ordering system, yet. If I don't hear anything by Monday, I'll give them a ring.
I will be happy to report my impressions, when I receive the machine. I will be testing with programming (Java, Flash, C++, etc.), Adobe CS (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), and game-playing, mostly.
(I know, you're thinking, "But the graphics chip in the 14 inch... it's not so hot!" and I answer, "But it's still four times as fast as my old one!") -
I ordered mine on the 2nd and still haven't received a tracking number even after the Supervisor assured me that there was no reason why it should not ship out yesterday at the latest for a Monday delivery. Not sure what's going on.
-
-
same problem, i also talked to the supervisor and he assured me it would be shipped but that he cannot guarantee anything about when it would be shipped.
-
I am leaning towards Asus UX31. it seems that the screen is bright with good contrast. Also the battery life is great, and no heat/noise problems at all (judging by my online research), and hey! it's gorgeous!
I do not know where Asus will stand in terms of reliability, but it seems this is my best bet for now..
I am only waiting for maximus360 to verify the quality of the screen on the series 7 (Monday?) to make up my mind.. -
Asus' quality is top rated in several studies.
-
I had alot of high hopes for the UX31, but I'll wait for the second generation for now, preferebly with Ivy Bridge, and see how that turns out.
EDIT: Also, the UX31 screen has some issues with vertical viewing, and if you change position you may need to re-adjust the screen, even if it's just a minor change. Like if you lean back or forward.
But overall, I like Asus notebooks, and I am sure that their next Ultrabook will most likely be completely awesome. -
Any news about the release date?
I can't wait any more for it, I'm a student and need a new laptop 2 weeks ago!
if not this one what 13.3 can I buy?
And any one can tell me if I need the graphic card or the intel will do just fine?
I don't play games, with very littel video and photo edit, only for fun.
and watch movie and the web things..
I want it to be light about 4/4.2 pound..
good battery life with good screen 13/14max, no need for it to be the best.
And good design.
I looked at lenovo u 13.3 and dell xps 14...
what can be a good replacement for the Samsung?
Thank you. -
to gilad1: UX31..!!
-
very quiet, thin and light.. man it is perfect..
some online talk about and trackpad.. but with updates it seems to be fixed
I was going for this samsung.. but with the screen being mediocre.. i will probably go for the ASUS.. waiting for some discount or something
check it out! and let me know if you agree.. because I want a feedback too -
-
The UX31 is attractive, no doubt -- but I wouldn't quite say it's "perfect." Look a little deeper before deciding, just to be sure.
