In the states, this laptop is considered a huge bargain compared to other high end laptops. I guess it's not priced as competitively in Europe. Even with the crappy screen I'm going to buy it cause it's such a great deal.

Very, very similar experience to mine. I bought a Vaio PCG-K23 back in 2004 and it looked great at the time as a desktop replacement, but it ran so hot that the case itself actually warped. It ran incredibly loud and the internals just degraded to the point that even after a full-on format, it still had massive delays and choked up with even the simplest task.

Fool me once, Sony. I'm sure things have gotten better in the past seven years, but I'm not willing to take that chance.

I still have my hopes for this one. I'll wait to play around with it in person.

Interesting experience. I bought a Z750D just over two years ago and it still runs like a champ. In fact, I wish it would give up the ghost so I could justify buying a nice, new core i7 machine...

Anyone consider the 13 inch MBP or MBA. I prefer the 15 inch (size, processor, GPU) but the 13 inch MBP is a quick little machine, light, and easy to carry. And, of course, it costs less than the 15 inch. (No video card, but they might be better off in a desktop anyway.) The MBA is super-light and feels really snappy.

Still, I'm leaning towards the 15 inch but do wish it were somewhat cheaper. In this regard, Phil males some good points (resale, etc...). And I haven't given up on Samsung --- the 7 is less than we had hoped for. But it still has a lot going for it.

Good luck with whatever you get!

I just tried the G74-BKK8 ($1,199 or $1,099 on sale). Same processor, good looking machine (in a big way --- it's a desktop replacement). Best feature for most 2 gig 560 card --- game anyone? And it is quick --- quicker than the cheap BB Samsung. Anyway, what makes it is the great cooling system (for me, anyway). Real powerful but never gets hot. Fatal flaw, to me, the screen. (I think laptop screens are mostly infected with a "we suck virus"). 1600 x 900 but on a 17.3. Glossy. Bad specs --- it's a cheap screen with low contrast, high black values, and such. About equal to the Series 7 screen to my eyes.

I could buy this as my gamer but a better G74 with 3gigs of 560 (and a non-gimped card; even the gimped card is pretty good) and get a 1920 x 1080 with presumably better specs. but for $400 more probably. In that case, I'd get the 15 inch MBP 6750 for almost the same price and a good battery (the G74 needs to be plugged in and is heavy!). So, the Samsung 7 is not alone --- companies often skimp on laptop screen quality. That's one reason people buy Apple laptops. A big reason for me anyway.

    Maybe they had a prototype?

I can't confirm sharp edges and I don't know what they mean with the touchpad mouse buttons...

How are you getting such a great price for the precision 4600? I'd consider that a much better overall package than the series 7, but typically it's twice as much!

I'm also looking at the Sager 8150 / 8130 as an alternative but like the series 7's keyboard layout and backlighting a little more.. and while the HP 8560w is still up there it gets pretty horrible battery life :|

I don't own one but I've mentioned the sharp edges previously since I did a lot of test typing on one at BB. It is noticeable and I don't know why Sammie didn't use a curved edge on the palmrest. It's worse than just a sharp corner (like on the ultrabooks and the MacBooks), it's a seam where the top deck and the bottom plate meet so it's a noticeable edge... esp for touch typists.

Lol at this point i wouldnt be surprised. i eventually take the plunge and place my dabs order theb this happens hours later. feeling pretty disheartened now.

It certainly seems that samsung are more interested in drumming up interest in the product as opposed to actually selling the damn thing.

Refurbished in the Dell Outlet. The battery life on the M4600 doesn't appear to be any good though.

Looks like the Microsoft Store dropped the ball. I just spoke with the supervisor, it seems it did not ship out in time (he apologized as there was no reason for the delay). He'll refund my overnight shipping and will monitor the situation and said more than likely it will go out today for a Monday arrival. :(

At $1300, I think they would be hard to sell.

Do you think it would be possible to cover the palm rest and the edge with a Zagg shield or something similar, so that it would be a bit more comfortable to use?

Based on a few comments over the last two pages I have a question.

Are the "Samsung Series 7" and the "Samsung Series 7 Chronos" two different products? If so what are the differences?

I see that Samsung does not use the work Chronos on their site: Series 7 Notebook: Style, Speed and Power | Samsung Articles & Insights anymore.

How hard is it to put together a chart with model numbers, options and delivery dates?

This is more difficult to understand than AT&T cell phone plans.

I checked out the series 7 again and honestly the isn't bad. It's not has good as Sony SE being 1080p, but compared to other laptops it is good. I also did minor display settings changes which improved the viewing experience.

I've asked before but no one responded. What's the button configuration to quickly enter and adjust the display settings? I think it was a function key plus number key combination which I tried recently but with no luck when at the store.

FN+F1 or go to Easy Settings program.

Then go to Display, scroll down, change settings.
    Should look like this:

At the moment I think I get a "Monday Model". My touchpad don't supports multitouch at the moment. I don't know what to do. The driver is installt but it doesn't work.

    @Ganxxta: Does your multitouch works?

Yea I did chance some settings and also switched the tasksymbole on. After I clicked the ok button I can see the symbole. But only vor 2 sek and then it disappers. In my opinion the driver crashes. Now I don't know if it is because of the driver or because the touchpad is broken.
    Normel touches are possible.

Sorry can't help you more :(

One last thing would be a complete format and reinstall with the recovery DVD.
If it doesn't work after that, then I think its the Touchpad itself.

I don't have the "screen bumpers" (don't know what they called in English) left under control and right under the Enter button, also you can see on their model bad quality on 3rd picture.

I was so curious about this laptop, so I went today to Pc world in London and checked it out...

It looks like a really amazing laptop and everything seems good. Build, size etc.. completely outstanding.

BUT the display is really a shame for Samsung!! Currently I have a Sony Vaio VPC E and comparing my glossy display (2 years old) to the Samsung display is outperforming the Samsung display by milions..!!!!

If they would have used just a glossy and good display , this notebook would be the market maker and could compete agains Macbook Pro !!! A lot of people would buy it, since almost everyone is looking for a nice build (macbook style), battery life, good display and Windows....!!

Anyone heard of a version with a glossy display??

    Hi Nang Nang

you pretty much confirmed my same sentiments about the samsung screen. Please note though , this is not the 'High end' model, they are yetto be released in the UK market. That said, with recent deltions from web retailers sites of the top model , its possible UK wont be getting it very soon. They may want to see how the sales of the PC world version works out first. Heres hoping they get the message and improve the screen for the high end spec, everyone would be happy with this move and i mean EVERYONE..So listen samsung and do the right thing.

    Hi weaver 4

the link below originally was to be the higher spec version of the Chronos 7 series. The PCworld is a cut down version, I just presumed that the High end Version has a better screen , beacuse alot of the reviews say the screen is good onm the higher spec, but if you physically check out the PCworld version of the Chronos 7 , i cannot believe thats the same screen used the high end model., the PC world version is just plain awful.

    NP700Z5A-S01UK SILVER - INTEL CORE i7-2675QM 8GB 750GB ATI 1GB GRAPHICS CAM/BT/DVDRW 15.6 INCH Win7 HP

link above was for the higher spec, since then nearly all the pre order sites have either removed it or stated its discontinued or withdrawn from sale. In other words , UK wont get the higher spec, just the lame PC world version.

I went to best buy to check it out. It's got amazing build quality and the touch pad/keyboard are excellent. It looks like a solidly built machine in every way. I also love the form factor and design: not too gaudy, but still quite sleek. The screen doesn't compare badly with all the other stuff they have in best buy, and it's matte as well, but it's definitely very bad compared to the Sony SE 1080p screen. Viewing angles are horrible and so is contrast. The contrast is pretty much my biggest gripe. A premium machine like this should have a decent screen... Unfortunately, it's called the samsung series 7 chronos at best buy as well. I hope they at least get a somewhat better screen in the shipped versions.

LG is even worse than Samsung when it comes announcing products and informing consumers. They haven't said anything about release dates regarding any country and P330 was quietly announced yesterday.
