So by "any of the 700Zs" did they mean the 15-inch version too? Because it kinda makes sense if that if they're not releasing the 13-inch and the 14-inch in certain countries immediately, they might be planning a separate version for those markets.

Hi
Althought not a great thing for people who already purchased this laptop. Its acutally a good thing Samsung recall and 'fix/refresh' the chronos 7 before its a sales disaster worldwide. Fixing the screen is the only point of contention, once this is resolved people will have nothing bad to speak of.
Ganxxta...i feel for you mate , i too would be more than annoyed if they recalled and refresh a model just recently purchased. I think you have the right to return this item , beacuse the recall is nationwide and you can inform the retailer there must be a just reason for the recall and your product is under warranty and subject to the recall. Give it a try ! -
Just thought id post, i spoke to dabs today.
There is no product recall. The reason everyone is being messed about with orders and deliveries is due to the thai flooding seriously constraining stock levels. theydont know when they will get them, it may be next year, but they will be getting stock eventually.
Just thought id stub out all of these rumours about a recall due to dodgy screen. -
Even if released in all its glory in the US with SSD cache 6750 and so on, I don't believe this will sell very well. (Nor are the ultrabooks.)
-
Has ANYONE from the US received this laptop yet?
-
Well I don't believe in a recall either.
The shop where I bought it just got the S01 version in stock, they would not sell these anymore if there was a recall. -
I'm not saying I buy the recall story as well, I'm just relaying the info I got from the MS store rep. I plan to call again today and check in again since they still have the laptop online (14") with no mention of a backorder or limited supplies.
-
I have been thinking to buy from digitec and now after this news it seems that i have to get back but i dont think so this is gona happen.... they are not gona recall it ....
-
I just called TigerDirect--the rep said they had shipments coming in Nov. 9th and Nov. 16th and that they had already received one shipment which has gone out. That seems consistent with what they've been saying all along. Hopefully mine will come out this week--I'll post when I get a tracking number.

Hey guys,
I am one of the many that are eager to buy this notebook. I have read around 50 pages of this conversation, but I still have a question. On amazon.co.uk I saw they are selling NP700Z5A-S03 for heck of a lot of money....and it seems to have the same parameters as the NP700Z5A-S01UK that we all await atm. So my question is - is there a difference in between these, or Amazon are earning on the high demand?
Cheers! -
Just spoke to the Microsoft Store, and they assured me that my laptop would be shipped by Friday (15.6 inch).....
Also call, and request free shipping. I've been laptopless why I wait, so I was able to get a few dollars back. -
That's not being sold direct by Amazon, that's someone offering to ship one from Germany for you. Presumably they've set the price high to capitalise on the lack of stock in the UK.
-
Well, the problem isn't the screen's number, the problem is the quality of some of the screens themselves. They have a QA problem for the initial run of a new product. Have you never heard of such things?
I can't believe that so many people are stunned that a brand new product has teething issues. It has *always* been the case that sensible people wait a bit until after a new product is released, as it often takes a while to get everything ironed out. It has always been a standard expectation that "early adopters" often pay a premium for the privilege of taking a risk. If anybody reading this does not know this already, well, write it down, tape it to your bathroom mirror, and study it first thing each morning. There will be way less stress and strain on your nervous system in the future.
Anybody who has been in ongoing agony about this laptop's screen should look up the definition of two words: "perspective" and "neurotic". A very few folks here just might need a shrink more than they need a new laptop. -
You don't have to convince me, I already have the laptop and I can live with the screen :rolleyes2:
I also bought the Galaxy S2 right when it was released, so nothing new for me
-
I called the MS store again today. Rep I spoke with said there was no issue with the Series 7. He said they are in stock and will ship out right away (14" at least). He said the mix-up might have been with the Slate as there was a concern with that device.
-
My order from Tigerdirect just got shipped today.
-
Sounds good
Hope you like it
-
WooHoo, TigerDirect shipped mine today!
-
DAMN!! LUCKY YOU!!! LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY!
-
Your going to get it before I do. Going to take me like one week for it to ship.
-
I wouldn't be so sure of that. I was at home in Michigan when I first ordered it on October 1st, but I've left on a 6 month motorcycle trip since then. I've had to change the shipping address several times. It's now shipping to a friends home in Florida. I'm currently in North Carolina and won't get to Florida until the end of the week at the very earliest. But at least it will be there waiting for me.
-
Hmmm....why can't I find it tigerdirect anymore?
-
It's showing as currently unavailable but here's a link:
Samsung NP700Z5A-S02US Series 7 Notebook PC - Intel Core i7-2675QM 2.2GHz, 6GB DDR3, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, Backlit Keyboard, AMD Radeon HD 6750M, DVDRW, 15.6 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com
She told me that they only received 14 of them yesterday. I still can't believe that I was one of the first 14. -
Well, It looks like I'm going to wait for a long while if you ordered yours early October since I ordered mine late October.
-
I live in Canada ahah. I'm shipping in my friend in Washington state. It would take me atleast next week to get it.
Plus I ordered in early Oct. this wait was killing me. -
I think Notebookcheck has edited his Review.
Old Results of the Panel:
1.7cd/m² for Black
Contrast: 158:1
247nit average
New Results:
2.24 cd/m² for Black
Contrast: 111:1
230nit average
Sorry for my bad English. With "for Black" i mean the Black Level. I don't know the English Word, in German we say "Schwarzwert". -
I dunno, that doesn't seem very credible...a contrast of 111:1 would make this one of the worst displays of any notebook on the market, and it definitely did not look like that when I was looking at it.
-
Take a Look on the last Samsung Model RF511, there has the same bad Contrast.
109:1
[Edit]
Here the Answer about the Old/New Contrast Results from Notebookcheck.
Translated with google!
That means, they have two test equipments for testing the Contrast. The first Machine was inaccurate. -
The brand new Best Buy G74 also has a low grade screen. They upgraded the quad core cpu to 2.2 from 2.0 --- the difference --- probably not noticeable in use (7200 HDD). I would take the prior i7 (or even an i5 --- less heat/noise) with a top of the line screen instead. I guess some people look at higher processor speed and make a decision based on that --- sort of like getting a 16.0 megapixel compact camera with a small sensor and thinking it's better than the 10 megapixel compact with the larger sensor (such as the S95). Oh, well
-
Or some people just have different priorities when it comes to their laptops... I currently have the Studio XPS 16 and I, for one, am looking forward to the Samsung Series 7 screen. The Studio XPS is too bright for me and the contrast makes the reds look orange. Different strokes for different folks.

Hello guys,
First of all, I would like to apologize to those of you who felt insulted or disturbed in any way because of my previous comments which have been erased though. It was not my intention to make any of you feel inadequate, only to submit an honest opinion and to underline the plain weakness of the screen together with the deceptive advertising pattern which might have caused some of you to regret the buying decision. And, yes, maybe a couple of times I was a bit too pushy while still having the best intentions in mind.
Well, taking into account the final results of Notebookcheck test for the screen, I believe the so-called dispute about its quality is over and now there’s a chief contender for The Golden Raspberry of The Year. Well-deserved!
Anyway, this is my last post in here as I’ve lost any interest in Samsung notebooks. And even if those people were to come to their senses and not turn one otherwise good product into a complete hoax by failing to remedy the obvious flaws, I still believe that I dismissed Sony too early. I’ve followed closely this so-called launch and the marvelous Marketing / PR / Communications associated with it, and I just cannot imagine how would be like to have to apply to Samsung repair or the sort. I mean, whatever problems I had with Sony, they look like a walk in the park by comparison.
Good luck to you all. -
If notebookcheck only changed their display measuring setup, it wont help the blurry image and horrendous viewing angles of Samsung Chronos series 7 display screens.
The display is THE most important part of any laptop and I hope Samsung reads this and stops skimping on This model's display quality so I can buy it
.
-
I really don't know where you get "blurry" from. The contrast, viewing angles, and color range aren't so great, but the picture is crisp.
And no, no one except 5 marginal obsessives (us) is reading this thread, and especially not anybody from Samsung. You can look up the reviews of the RF511--not a single one of them, except the notebookcheck review, mentions that the contrast is bad, and many of them cite the screen as a positive (like the reviews of the S7 we've seen so far). It's not something the vast majority of people notice or care about. -
So the Chronos turned out to be a bit of a disappointment.
But I still need a new laptop with a good display & resolution (1366x768 just doesn't cut it), light weight (under 2,4 kg), good battery life and an overall good spec.
Is the Sony Vaio SE the only alternative? Or should I wait until Christmas - is there something new coming from e.g. Asus or Sony? -
Anyone notice that the S03-US and S04-US are now listed as available on Amazon (from a 3d-party retailer, and at or around MSRP)?
Edit: only 7 left in stock, order soon. Anyone going to go for it after reading everyone's comments about the screen? -
the screen is not that bad....go look at the best buy model for yourself
yes i cancelled my order at microsoft and ordered it off of amazon.
microsoft store = 1245 (after tax) and its not in stock STILL
amazon = 1149 (no tax charge =D) and its in stock =D
i really hope it is available(in stock) because i've been waiting for a LONG time for this laptop... -
I just ordered mine from Amazon too! Only 1 left in stock now...
-
hi
Im going to hold out a little while longer and see if things are changed with the Chronos 7 series. Im still hoping they change the screen, thats the thing thats holding me back. As for those who puchased it and own it , would be cool if you could post some more vidoes on You tube. So more can see this screen in action. If possible demo some games , Hd footage , films etc, anything would be greatly appreciated.
thanks -
First impressions of the £800 model at PC World...
Trackpad and keyboard are brilliant! The trackpad is just like the MacBook Pro , you can tell it's glass coated as you're finger slides effortless across the surface
Feedback on the keys was great, the overall look and feel of the laptop was brilliant.
Then it came to the screen, I was hoping it wasn't that bad.
It's just pretty average, I didn't think it looked good, washed out is the perfect description. There were better screens on £300 laptops.
I found that Sharp Mode was best, but it still lacked punch and the bad vertical viewing angles were really annoying.
Such a shame, I didn't want to believe that it was case as I've been following since IFA and I love this laptop...
I had a look at the Sony Vaio SE and the screen was stunning... I'm now switching threads to SE Owners discussion.
Bye guys, it's been fun reading for the past 150 pages. Good luck with this laptop if you buy it
-
hi mriley
I see you came to the same conclusion as me. Well i too am i a fan of the design of this laptop, just the Screen ruined what would have been near on perfect laptop for me. Ive asked owners if they could post you tube vidoes of the screen in action, difficult to explain the screen in words , visual imagery is needed. They staff at PCworld where a bit weird and not let me record the laptop in action, hence asking owners to post vids.
Well, im going to wait 2/3 months and see what happens, meantime thanks to all for sharing thoughts, opinions on this model. Bye for now
-
For Asus only close spec wise would be Asus G series. The other models are close but in many cases too heavy and lack battery life.
Sony SE is closest to Series 7. You can get a very good cpu but below average GPU. The screen is good but RGB is off.
IMO I don't care much about the screen. But my main concern is the laptop has balance specs and not one really nice and one really bad spec. -
Tha blacks aren't that bad on this screen, but the contrast is quite poor as are the viewing angles... You need to bump up the brightness quite a bit or you won't be able to tell different colours apart... The whites look a bit strange on this screen as well... extremely cold whites. Now, I could probably deal with the angle issue, but the contrast problem is really annoying me, because images lack detail. Thinking of returning the laptop now...
-
I'm wondering if this is becoming a trend with Samsung Laptops. Just got my wife the QX411 for her birthday and while the build quality is great, the contrast and viewing angles are not so great. She's happy though so that's all that counts. I'm a bit more picky.
-
Have you tried different color settings?
Standard is too cold and white=blue, try movie or sharp mode. -
Great… I wrote all feedback about this laptop with full of enthusiasm and when I pressed send I saw that I was not logged on and I lost one page of review.
Finally I got it
I will tell in short:
I love this laptop and I am happy that I bought it after 2,5 months of studying, 50 posts and reading all posts here. I have to say that if nobody would not say nothing about display colors quality I wouldn’t never notice that there is a problem. I think it is great. I believe that some profi users and on the test there can maybe really find something, but if you are a normal user, maybe a little amateur on colors display you will be really satisfied. Believe or not, I never had macbook in my hand, and this is actually one of best screens I saw. My previous laptop was asus x51l, and when I saw on youtube 1080p “I am sexy and I know it” song, I really saw it so much better as before.
So for all you guys that are worried about the screen and you are not really working for media (Photoshop and so on) you will love it. I am here on forum almost every day, so I can help if you need something.
I have just one question for you guys that already have this laptop. If I have my windows ultimate at home, is better to format disk and to install from beginning or is the same or better if I continue with this windows??? I will install everything now and than make a system backup. For restoring latter (Norton ghost)
What you think any advantages and disadvantages?
thanks -
Hey nice to hear that you have it
I would suggest that you use the preinstalled windows, maybe upgrade it with the Key to the Ultimate version.
But I wouldn't suggest to format the system, some users reported that ExpressCache isn't working anymore. There is an additional 100MB system partition that seems to be necessary for ExpressCache. -
really?
but will this windows work for one year? or there is a licence for always?
did you unninstall already some of preinstalled tools, what do you suggest?
thanks to you ganxxta, you convinced me to buy this laptop. You relly always wrote nice comments.. so what should I do now?
