WIFI Intel 6230 replacement stolen from user "midgetdiablo" (my additions will look like this)

(1st thing I did was download the driver for the new chip from intel and left it on my desktop)

    1. uninstall Broadcom and Bluetooth applications (I found two of them in the control panel and uninstalled both.
1a. I turned off the computer, disconnected the power cord and depressed the button inside of the small hole on the bottom of the laptop. I depressed it for 3 seconds, turned the machine back over and hit the power button. I confired it did not turn on.
    2. Disassemble S7 case (the most difficult part of this procedure) http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/632487-samsung-series-7-chronos-np700z5a-disassembly-guide.html

    3. Disconnect the two attached lines, take out Broadcom chip.
    4. Slip in Intel 6230, and connect both lines to the corresponding socket.
    5. Install Wireless LAN,INTEL (Driver) (ver.14.2.1.1) 48.14
That's it. You only need that one driver.
There are a few things that you might've missed.
    1. Make sure you've installed the 64-bit driver, not the 32-bit one.
    2. Reconnect the two lines to their corresponding antennas again. It can be hard to tell whether they're connected.
I put the laptop back together and put the power cord back on, and turned the machine on. Once powered I ran the driver which I had already downloaded onto my desktop. Once this was done my WIDI and WIFI worked. I have still yet to test Blue tooth.

    trackpad settings

trackpad settings can be found under "mouse properties" them click "ELAN" then "OPTIONS". This will give you the oppotunity to change settings. yes, im sure there is a easier way to do this but Im not the sharpest person in the world.

fixing the c drive partition - stolen from best buy reviewer

    1. Open Disk Manager. (Start, type 'Disk,' wait... click 'Create and format hard disk partitions.'#
    2. On the bottom half, look for the partition labeled "TEMP PART," to the right of the C: partition. Right-click it, click "Delete Volume." Say OK. It's ok, there's nothing on it.
    3. Right click the partition labeled #C:# and click "Extend Volume." The form's already all filled out, just say OK.
Boom, your partiion is extended and you didn't even need to reboot!

Now I have tried both driver versions 11.12 and 12.1 strictly following Leshcat's instructions, but for some reason, when trying to watch Youtube videos 720p HD quality on full screen using Chrome browser and the battery only, this computer just crashes. When I use it with the power cord plugged in the wall, it works fine.

Other than that I actually haven't got any other problems with this laptop after using it for about a week. WiFi is working fine, screen is ok, wrist-area is not razor-sharp. Hopefully Samsung people get's this thing with the drivers fixed asap.

My version is NP700Z5A-S01 and the screen SEC314B.

By the way, I also measured the noise levels using SGSII phone.
In idle mode it's about 30db and when on high use it raises up to ~50 db.

I wonder if when plugged in the computer switches to the Radeon card. Following that logic, when running on battery the laptop is using the HD3000 , and since the drivers you loaded don't have anything to do with that card the behavior remains the same. Just thinking outlound...

hi everyone! been following this thread for awhile. about two weeks ago, i was biting a bullet and ordered one from Amazon. i'm currently typing from my brand new 700Z5A-S03 :)

so far, i'm impressed by this notebook.
    - the display is okay i guess, and the hardware ID is SEC314B, the same as the other. i think the display is an upgrade from my Asus U80V, which has a glossy display and HD resolution.
    - the backlight keyboard is really cool. although my Asus U80V has it too (and also a backlight touchpad actually ^^), the backlight in Chronos has more level in the brightness setting, so i think it's more flexible. the space bar is not a problem, either. i continuously tap it in the corner and the notebook still registers it. my only gripe for the keyboard is the feedback. it's more shallow than the keyboard in my previous notebook. well, i think i will get used to it in time.
    - the Elan touchpad is okay, way better than the Elan touchpad in my Asus U80V. two finger scrolling is working, pinching is working. i followed the advice to disable the tap-to-drag, and it's working perfectly. (i never used a macbook pro before, so.. yeah. can't compare it to a macbook pro)
    - i haven't try it out for gaming or watching flash video yet, so i haven't experienced the display problem.

all in all, i'm very happy with my purchase. though it cost me more to import this notebook to my country (i'm from Indonesia, so sorry for the not-so-perfect English), but i think it's worth it :)

So what is the exact problem with HD flash video? Is the Intel card incapable of showing flash in hd? It works fine on my envy15 with Intel 2760.

    All,

I had the series 7 for a short time and quickly returned it. Mainly for its low end screen. Got my new envy 15 a few days ago, the IPS screen on it is amazing. The samsung does feel slimmer then the hp, overall built quality is about the same. If viewing angle is important check out the envy 15. It has a 180 degree veritcal viewing angle compare to a 5 degree viewing angle of the samsung (the point where the color start shifting and eventually become washed out).

Would anyone be able to tell me if I could hook up a 3D capable monitor to the hdmi and have the Radeon 6750m card actually output 3D graphics? I know nvidia cards require Vision, but I'm not sure if there is something similar for ATI cards.

Is it odd that the following 18.4" laptop has the same panel id? Two places I found on the web list this Fujitsu as having a Samsung SEC314B id with a 1680x945 resolution:

Review Fujitsu Amilo Pi 3660 EF9A Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: - Pastebin.com

I read elsewhere that the Chronos panel has a model number of LTN156KT068, along with this SEC314B id. So maybe you can't trust strictly Samsung's ids, and you also need the model number to be sure it's the same one?

There's something similar with the panels for my Lenovo T420s. There are 3 different manufacturers all reported as LEN40A1 but the extended ID data obtained using HWiNFO or similar report the true manufacturer's code.

Thanks for the reply. I can live without the 1080p screen, 1600x900 is fine for a 15" - can you confirm whether the model listed on Amazon has a backlit keyboard?

    model number NP700Z5A-S01UK

edit: I have just had a reply from Amazon customer services, and they said that it DOESN'T have a backlit keyboard?!

The track pad makes it impossible to use the curser accurately,ie it moves when it shouldn't . I tried every setting under the sun to improve it to no avail , my dell xps 15 r2 trackpad is 1000% times better, the 1080p screen on the dell is light years ahead of the Samsung also

    the screen isnt too bad...
the trackpad isnt a big deal for me as i have a razer orochi
i prefer mouse and dont use the trackpad often

to configure a MBP to the same-ish specs as this laptop itd cost almost 2 times and the bezel isnt as small on the mbp

im willing to give up a bit of screen quality for better specs at half price

also i prefer windows over osx

I can certainly agree with this. I really want a MBP again but I can't pay that much to get one specced to how I want so I understand what you mean. My comment was simply in regards to the trackpad as nothing I've used yet compares to the trackpad on the MBP's. It's good after some tweaking but it's one of those once you try it, it's hard to go back. Really like the laptop so far.

although my biggest complaint is with samsung customer service

    1. they took forever to finally release this laptop...
    2. mine was doa and took 3 weeks to get a new one sent to me
    3. the galaxy nexus had a similar release to this laptop
they announced it, then we were waiting for a LONG time with no real news, and its not even available for a gsm provider in the u.s.a (yet we don't even know if they will release it)

    4. i called a bunch of times to try and figure out what is wrong with my series 7 and i got a bunch of different answers the only competent person said it needed repair...which it then got sent in for repair then they just decided to replace it

samsung needs to get their customer service/ marketing/ pr together

on the engineering side they're doing great though.

I am really close to purchasing an NP700Z4, but I have one major concern (which applies to anyone who has the 700Z4 or 700Z5).

How exactly does the dual microphone/headphone input work?

All the notebooks I've had have the two as separate inputs, and I don't exactly see how having them as one can function properly. For example, I have a Logitech headset with mic, and it outputs to one cable for the headphones, and one for the mic. This works absolutely fine when I use VOIP in games like Battlefield with my Dell XPS since it has a dedicated input for each. But for the Series 7, would I be able to use my headset?

How can I use a mic, but at the same time output the sound to headphones?

Also, I sometimes run my electric guitar into a Korg multi-effects pedal which outputs into an auxiliary connection which I can plug into any microphone input of a notebook. I monitor the real-time audio through Audacity for some quick recording and practicing (really just for fun, nothing serious). So long story short, my guitar is plugged into the mic input and my headphones into the headphone input (on my Dell).

Is there any way I can do this on the Series 7?

How do all you Series 7 owners setup your mic/headphone connections?

    Thanks and appreciate any replies!

I don't know about the guitar but for the headset I have a usb little dongle that looks like a thumbdrive and has the normal split inputs on the end. All my headsets are split like yours and using them through the longer to play left 4 dead has given perfect results. I think the dongle came with a plantronics headset I got a long time ago but I bet you can find something that will work. Something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035 should work. I have a z5a

    Salud,

    J&R has a new version for pre-order
Samsung NP700Z5A-S09US Series 7 15.6" Notebook PC - Silver in PC Notebook Computers | JR.com

    S09, with a slightly improved i5-2450M cpu 2.5-3.1Ghz

    I'm currently on a 4yr old Asus N80VN-X5, C2D 2.4Ghz, 4GB, nvidia 9650M GT.
Starting playing SWTOR and of course it's sluggish, but playable.

So this S09 will be a nice bump. Faster cpu, 4.5x better gpu, more RAM, 15.6" screen instead of 14" at half a pound lighter. Heat vent out the back and not the side. PROGRESS!

I wanted a MBP, but not willing to spend $1,700 when $1,050 will suffice.

Someone told me an analogy that i5 dual core is like 8GB of RAM, usually plenty enough, and quad core is like going to 16GB overkill and most apps will not use it. I know some feel more is always better, but does Windows 7 utilize quad core well? Reading SWTOR forums, folks say quad helps a little?

    thoughts?

Don't forget that the 2 cores can run 4 threads. Most of this time this represents over-capacity. Quad cores do provide a performance boost for those programs that are specifically written to be multi-threaded but if all the cores are busy then the speed tends to drop to keep the overall power and heat within the design limits.

I also use 6GB RAM by choice. There are times when I need more than 4GB but I noticed that 8GB increases the hibernation / resume times as Windows gradually fills up the spare RAM. 6GB is the compromise.

How do you get the 25% off? There is a microsoft store up the road from me.

    Thanks in advance!

It's a flat % off across the store until the end of the month (I think). No coupon or code necessary, but it's in-store only. Added benefit - the MS store takes the bloatware off for you (and is very good to work with in case of a hw issue, I've found).

EDIT: The 25% discount is for orders for $1,000, which obviously applies to this.

ecawt is exactly correct. Just walk into the store and ask for it.

    Hello, new to this forum.

I just purchased the Samsung Series 7 laptop from Best Buy (model: NP700Z5B-W01UB) and noticed that the hard drive is partitioned into two parts. The C drive at 50G and D drive at 678G. Would it be just easier for me to resize the C and D drives? Perhaps C at 300G and the D at 378G by just going into the Disk Management, shrink the volume of D and extend the volume of C?
I hope someone can help me with this and I am sorry if this has already been posted on this forum. Thanks for the help.

Hmm MS store only seems to carry the Samsung series 9, and the SF411 14".
    Not the series 7, NP700Z5A.

Do they carry in store stock they don't list on their website?

50GB for C: does seem small. It's possibly a relic of the Samsung Recovery Solution storing user backups of C onto D, which means that D means more space. personally, I would keep C down to around 100GB and change the properties of My documents etc., to save them on D: Then, should windows break (rare these days) and you need to restore a backup (or the factory image) then you don't lose your user files.
