    Thank Elf4U!

Could anyone test it with such games like BF3 or Crysis 2?
How much fps will you get on high settings?

Just a bit of proof to attest to the power of this laptop. Haha. The disk is 256 Crucial SSD however. Very speedy. Though, if you can find the Samsung 830 for a similar price, I'd go with that. I'm not sure how an SSD effects gaming honestly, I haven't seen too great an increase, though loading speeds are just a little faster in some games, and that's enough for me. Just about everything else is like blazing though.

The SO2 people keep talking about with the improved screen is not the same as the SO2 already available in the us correct?

Availability update: The Microsoft Store is now offering the NP700Z5C-S04 which has 8 gigs of ram, but is otherwise identical to the S01 base configuration. It's selling for $1199 in the US, and comes with Microsoft Signature, which is their service where they do a clean windows install for you. I'm personally holding out for the S03, since it supposedly has a 2gig Nvidia GT 640M, but this would definitely be my second choice.

But that doesn't give us the information we want about the graphics card.

Hell, if there's a version of the laptop with a better screen coming out for sure, I'd reinstall the old harddrive and return this one in a heartbeat. Granted, the screen isn't so bad that it warrants a return unless you're an artist or it seriously annoys you (like it does to me sometimes). Ideally, it'd have a nicer screen, but I can just hook up an external monitor if I need perfect colors to do art.

    What resolution?

Out of curiosity, how exactly did you test the frames? Big battles or what? Either way, much appreciated ^.^

Probably the native resolution, 1600x900. That sounds about right for this laptop. Hook it up to a 720p monitor and you could probably get even better frames without the bad scaling that is indicative of video game scaling.

What is the res that will display on your TV with WiDi on these (NP700Z5C-S01UB or the NP700Z5C-S02US)?

The Ivy bridge WiDi is supposed to support 1080p (1920x1080) but the 15.3" display on these models is 1600x900.

Interesting. The picture is also wrong -- maybe the 14"? SD card slot is missing. Seems like it's mislabeled.

How can I connect a monitor to one of these if it doesn't have HD; it is a Samsung 215TW 1650x1080 21" from 2006 and only has VGA and DVI connectors.

You can either buy an HDMI-to-DVI cable (my preference) or a dongle that converts the Display Port output to VGA, like this:

Admittedly, there's no reason to think models have to be the same -- but, the S02US is an HD+, not FHD. I dunno...the ncix.com listing doesn't quite have the feeling of total truthiness to me. Another typo?

Sorry, I should have mentioned it was the S01CA that I picked up.

I dunno about a typo. If there's one thing even luddites know it's that FHD mean 1920x1080. It would be a weird one to mess up. Then again, who knows?

LOL Then I just leveled up past Luddite last week! I kept seeing people mention the HP dv7t and the phrase "FHD" over and over, and I'm like, what the "heck" is FHD??? Looked it up, and I am now that much more in the know!

I agree with your impression though -- it's an odd mistake to make. Overall, it makes more sense to guess that the S02US is 1600x900, while the S02CA is indeed 1920x1080. The only thing that dissuades me is the lack of detail on the listing page (not even a picture), but I don't know that particular company.

hey guys great discussion you have going on in here, and I wanted to come bring in a couple thoughts/questions...

I wanna start off by saying I am coming back to a PC laptop from the Macbook Pro with Retina Display. While the Macbook Pro is a beautiful computer (seriously its gorgeous), the hardware is just not up to snuff for that high of a resolution. Also ,I know I can get similar specs for about 1000 dollar less, which is exactly how much I have saved right now by buying the new samsung.

So enter my search for a PC laptop. What I ended up settling on was the Samsung NP700Z5C-S01UB. now, here is the weird part. I purchased it from Best Buy, and this model has a GT630M with 512MB VRAM, HOWEVER, on the Samsung website this model is listed as having a 640M with 1GB VRAM. I know someone mentioned this earlier and im wondering if anyone has learned anything more abou this.

I really hate knowing that there is a model maybe even 100 dollars that has a 640 with 1GB of VRAM....

The computer runs LoL fine which is the primary game i will be playing, but I like to have the ease of mind for future options. Im a major gamer on my Desktop, and my laptop is secondary, but I still want it to be decently nice.

Another thing, how confident are people that there will be a full HD display in the 15 inch anytime soon? The display on this one is lackluster, and really leaves something to be desired. I would prefere a 1080 display. If anyone has any idea for these questions, or any suggestions they would be appreciated!

If you click on the "2 New" on the product page at Amazon, you'll see this under the seller "Tax Free Mall":

Brand New! In stock! 750 GB HDD+ 8 GB SSD! No Sales Tax except in NY! Samsung Series 7 700Z5C-S04 with same specs. Return accepted within 14 days of delivery.

Plus, the specs you listed were from the Microsoft Store (you can tell by the way it's formatted - they format their specs the same way), which sells the S04 version.

This seller is selling the S04, so as of yet, we don't have the S03 specifications.

I also purchased the np700z5c-s01ub from best buy. it has the 630m card. i reinstalled the OS to 7 Ultimate. now the nvidia drivers by both samsung and nvidia will not install (compatible hardware not found).

i have both spoken with level 1 and 2 tech support and exchanged emails with support. according to the tier 2 phone support guy, there is no way this model number does not have the 640m card. can you believe that? he would not be swayed at all and refused to check best buy's site or accept an email from me with a pic of the specs on the box. all that to say, we are still waiting on compatible drivers before the nvidia graphics will work. i just find it funny but sad that even the tech people do not know samsung puts varying components in the units with the same model number.

all this fuss aside, i am thrilled with the machine. every driver from samsung installed perfectly after going to 7 ultimate. make sure to reinstall the Easy Settings app for full functionality. this laptop is very responsive, the ambient light sensor seems to be working perfectly, and i have not had some of the more commonly heard problems with the touchpad. i am actually getting used to the swipe and zooming features and really like them.

if i had a complaint at this point it would be that in standby, the power light does not pulse. i have no way of knowing whether the machine is fully off or in standby (other than my memory, but who uses that?)

These are the same specs (with exception of 6GB RAM) mentioned for "NP700Z5C-S01US" model for $1,099.99.
    http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Serie...=UTF8&qid=1341358511&sr=1-1&keywords=NP700Z5C

why to go for same specs with 2GB extra RAM with additional $188?
or am i missing something here?

Lol that is so ignorant of the support guy to not allow you to try and show him what you are talking about. Such a weird thing. Honestly I might just return both the macbook and the samsung and just not have a laptop for a while until I can find definitive answers about all of this.

same thing with me ... i talked to tech support and he assured that the specs on their website is wrong, and the samsung's website is correct. I then made a purchase, but based on your experience , seems that i got the wrong one!

i agree. he was adamant that it wasn't even possible. the conclusion for him was that he could not even provide support for me because i did not have the OS that the laptop came with.

i am trying to attach a pic of my box from best buy to remove any of the speculation about typos on their website and maybe a Samsung tech will see it and believe. ;)

Ah, since there are a couple different DVI formats, you should really check your monitor, and then match it up with the cable picture. This one at Amazon is $7.00:

Amazon.com: AmazonBasics HDMI to DVI Adapter Cable (9.8 Feet/3.0 Meters): Electronics

I think the definitive answer isn't the label, but a screenshot of the specs while running (e.g., "system information" in Windows Experience Index, HWiNfO64, etc.). It's highly unlikely the label is wrong, but it's not impossible.

A bit of further research seems to indicate that the S03US has 8GB (vs. 6GB) of RAM and 2GB (vs 1GB) of GDDR5 RAM compared to the S01US.

    But what about the S02US?

i would if i could, but since i do not have drivers for the nvidia card, all i see is the intel card. i do recall on the display model at best buy that device manager showed a 512MB video card. there is no doubt the best buy version has the 630M.

Ack, I forgot that you had driver issues. This is an intriguing mystery.

OK, so I guess the "B" in S01UB means Best Buy -- or at least, I just checked through Samsung's notebooks and all the units with "-UB" in the model number are/were available at Best Buy. So that's a clue.

Second, I found two other small clues. The first is a Best Buy review:

    Best Buy - Samsung Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 14" Display / 6GB Memory customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

And someone else commented on the "-US" vs. "-UB" on the 17" Samsung:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...us-laptop-i7-3615qm-650m-review-125.html#1247

Hopefully we can unravel the puzzle.

Just emailed the amazon seller again today and the supposed SO3US is a SO4Us, however they told me that the two models have the exact same technical specs.

Hey, is it just me or is there no back-lit keyboard on these models anymore? They didn't have the back-lit keyboard on the sandy-bridge models either, in canada.

Anyone tried the wireless display capability with Push2TV adapter? Can you watch movies at 1920x1080 or are you limited to 1600x900? Can you make the wireless display your primary adapter?

Anybody knows if it comes with a hibernation partition with IRST configuration?

or the ExpressCahce is actually the samsung's implementation of rapid startup tech. ?

For example, the 8gig SSD caches the windows files as well as frequently used files ...and use the ssd to bootup in normal shutdown/restart . Whereas, on hibernation, it just copies the active pages of RAM into SSD and will use t to bring back the state on resume.

i'm a bit confused about these two mechanism ... anyone plz
