My laptop network socket has developed a problem. Probably as a result of snagging the cable repeatedly. Now it sometimes needs a good thump to connect and will sometimes drop connection again if moved. Classic signs I think of a loose solder connection. I would like to know how to locate the site of attachment and repair it.
I can't even get the case open in the right place to view the board.
I did have the keyboard out but still couldn't view the motherboard in the right place.

Any tips? (besides be more careful with the cable :) )
    Thanks
    Phil

I presume that you have already tried a different network cable.

You might find this thread about the X20 cooling system to be helpful. It includes some guidance and photos on getting the X20 apart.

The other workaround is to get a network adaptor for the PCMCIA slot.
