    Hi

    I use Samsung X20. It's Pentium M 1.6, Intel Centrino, Intel 915GM, 1G RAM, 80GB HDD. I have the newest bios, BIOS 11Z(12Z).

I'm planning on buying some very low power consumption 160gb or larger hard drive. But i know that there might be issue or bios seeing only part of the drive, or not recognizing the drive at all. Can I check in advance, what sizes my lap support?

Does your computer use IDE (PATA) or SATA. Either way, it should be fine.

I think the question is whether the BIOS supports LBA, otherwise it can only use 137GB of the HDD (Google for more about the 137GB limit - I recall there's some good info in the FAQs on the Western Digital site) so you may end up with some unused space.

You will need IDE/PATA, not SATA. I would suggest you look at the Samsung HM160HC http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...=62&subtype=67&model_cd=294&tab=fea&ppmi=1159 (available at http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=341059). It has 160GB on one platter so it gives the same performance as the 320GB 2 platter HDDs.

Otherwise the WD2500BEVE is, I think, the only 2.5" IDE/PATA HDD greater than 160GB but I'm sure it consumes a bit more power than the Samsung.

Let us know, after upgrading, whether the X20 can see more than 137GB.

There is a way round the 137GB limit (if it is a problem). See this thread for how to do it.
