Is there any difference between the germany keyboard layout and the uk ones?

I really want to buy the X22 from germany but I'd like to clear this first.

The German keyboard has the same number of keys but the layout and markings are different. See Wikipedia. You can put a set of UK markings on to the German keyboard and tell Windows it is a UK keyboard, but it won't look so beautiful.

Notebook.de will provide a UK keyboard, at extra cost. What's the reason for wanting to import from Germany?

I know its not much difference but I could not find the X22-Pro T7500 Boyar in any UK web site.

Also, I didn't know that in notebook.de we could choose some peripherals of the laptop.

Is there any uk website that we could do the same?

So far, I've not seen a UK version of the X22 with the T7500. Nor have I seen a UK retailer who offers customisation options.

    Hey mates,

new to this forum and was wondering your opinion between the Samsung X22 laptop and the Asus W7S - A1B model. I'm purchasing a new computer for uni!

    cheers.

P.S. Hey stefan & John, here's a site I found with tons of photos of the Samsung X22. However, the site is not in English, so I couldn't read what comments they have on the laptop!

Thanks for those X22 photos. We need someone to do an X22 review for NBR.

The decision between the Asus and the X22 is a matter of display size preference. Do you want the bigger display? I'm not sure where you are, but in UK an alternative to the W7 is the Rizeon S37 / Z37, which is an Asus whitebox notebook. I nearly bought one before deciding that I wanted a bigger, but higher resolution, display.

Zepto aren't in UK but are actively selling to the UK. The 6224W has very aggressive pricing at the moment if it's got what you want.

    Rock Direct
also offer a number of options but mainly specialise in gaming machines.

Evesham also do built-to-order but be forewarned that they went through a financial problem recently.

There may be others, but this is the Samsung forum.

asus has a tool called Power4Gear. with the tool you can customize the performance of the cpu. for example you could limit the cpu performance to 20 - 30% to enlarge the battery life.
does samsung offeres such a tool?

Samsung does not have the direct equivalent of Power4Gear but does have two utilities which should help extend the battery life. First, there is the Easy SpeedUp Manager which is accessed using Fn+F8 and has 3 modes: Normal Operation, Silent Mode (which reduces CPU speed and fan activity) and Maximum Performance. Second, there is the Easy Battery Manager, which provides a user interface to some other power-saving features.

for anyone interested in the x22's gaming ability, i downloaded the demo's for medieval total war and world in conflict (two of the games in the top ten of the pc charts at the mo) both run very well on the x22.

Issue 158 (Dec 07) of PC Pro has a one page review of the X22. It is generally favourable except for a poor display (which is not something I recall seeing in the previous reports in this thread). The keyboard is commended. The version tested must have the 8 cell battery since it ran for nearly 4 1/2 hours under light use.

Ok, the article does not seem to be online. I wait for the X22 several month and live in Germany. The german version has a matte screen. If the screen is poor this would be unacceptable. This labtop is premium priced and so i can expect a premium labtop with a premium screen. Anything other than that is intolerable. I hope for a review in Germany soon. By the way, the P400 and P500, which both have unacceptable short battery life, will probably have the same poor screen quality if not worse. I still hope.
    Best regards, Al

Yes, that review is too new to be on line. My magazine came through the mail yesterday. Note that some versions of the X22 may have the 4 cell battery.

Current info on the P400 in UK suggests it may have the 8 cell battery, so up to 4 hours. Perhaps someone in Samsung UK noticed the perpetual complaint about the small battery.

As written in the review the screen is still the problem at Samsung notebooks. As far as I know, this was already so with the predecessors, too. Hopefully there will be an option with a LED backlit screen soon.

Having just taken delivery of the exact model reviewed in PcPro, here is my initial view. I chose the matte screen over the glossy because I do some work in a room with a glass roof. My son's 17" Dell glossy is great for DVDs in a darkened room but unusable under even moderate lighting. I needed a digital video output and the HDMI means that I wouldn't watch a movie on a 14" screen anyway. For text, web pages etc. I find the definition good. In an ideal world I would have chosen a 1440x900 resolution LED backlit but other features were more important and I now find that 1280x800 suits me well on a 14" screen (I wear varifocals for close reading). With a higher reolution I would be bumping up the font size to reduce eyestrain. The criticism I would make of the display is it's narrow viewing angle. Side on it maintains definition but looking about 20 degrees to the perpendicular from above it becomes very washed out. However who would chose a 14" to show work to a group? That's what the HDMI is for.

There's a good review of the X22 (Vista version with glossy display) at Trusted Reviews. It would have been better if they had the other version to compare with the D630.

The X22 Boyar has been delivered today in germany and I got mine. I`m not totally convinced and the display is not bad, but it`s not really bright and the contrast is not the best.
Aquamark gives 28.810 and 3dmark 2001 gives 13150 around that. 3dmark 06 will follow later.

Also, this table at Notebookcheck provides comparisons with other GPUs.

This battery does not work with the samsung x22. the part number for the 8 cell battery is AA-PL0NC8G (AA-PB0NC4G for the 4 cell). I have tried this on the X22 and it does not fit. The part number is also not listed as a compatible battery.

I cannot find a 3rd party 8 cell battery for the X22 that is less than about £130. Anyone found any?

    Thanks

I'di like to know how to consider this pretty like notebook if compared with Lenovo R61, Hp 6510B and Dell Vostro 1310.
Is 800 euro an interesting price for it ?

Is it better (At the same price) the samsung Q70 or not ?

I prefer an anti glare display...

800 euros is a good price - in UK it is >£800. It's a business class notebook with durability high on the design priorities. If I were shopping for this then I would look for the version with the 4 cell and 8 cell batteries included (like this one).

I wouldn't compare the X22 with the Q70. In my opinion the Q70 was 13.3" done on the cheap with the Q45 chassis put into a bigger casing. It has only 2 USB ports.

Did you also come across the Samsung P400? It is the business version of the R20.

And watch out for the Vostro 1310. The UK version has the bottom row of the keyboard shifted one character to the right and I suspect this also applies to the other European keyboards.

No in Italy the P400 is not available... yet...

I'm in trouble among some models but I'm very attracted from this one.

The 1310 ha also a good price but I have no idea about its keyboard and chassis keyboard that for me are the main important aspects (Office/programming usage only)

This was the report about the Vostro 1310 keyboard.

If you aren't sure what to buy then make a table with the features you want and how the possible notebooks meet those requirements (size, weight, battery life, display size / resolution, ports, RAM, HDD size, operating system .....). This systematic approach can often reveal that a notebook doesn't have something you want.

I've already done a similar table and the notebooks that meet my requirementes are:
    _lenovo R61 NA04TIT (850 euro)
    _hp 6510B GR690ET (750 euro)
    _samsung X22 with T7250 (800 euro)
    _dell vostro 1310 with T8100 (720 euro)
    _dell vostro 1400 with T8100 (650 euro)

THe R61 was my first choice but it is a little too expensive for me.
The 1400 seems to be a "bargain" but... seems to be too heavy...

Yes, the Vostro 1400 is a relatively heavy and bulky 14.1" notebook - aimed at people for whom price is more important than portability.

One other factor you may want to consider is display resolution. I like my 14.1" to be 1440 x 900, which shrinks the list of options substantially. Dell or Zepto?

But the weight is over 2,5 kg ?

I'm particularly interested into know display and keyboard quality those for the reviews I've read seem to be average high.

But... if compared with R61 and Hp 6510b ?

I have just recently ordered a Samsung X22a005SUK from pcworld, it has a T8300 processor, 4G ram, 320G HDD and a HD 2400 video card, which is more than capable enough for university purposes.

Also I loves the relatively low price-tag of £600.

So as long as the build quality holds up and I dont act stupid and mess it up (I hope some very slight over-clocking wont hurt, i.e. overclock the 2.4G processor to 2.6G).

Sorry if this is really basic, but can someone tell me how to get the image on that nifty little built in webcam onto Skype so the person I am chatting to can see me?
