Another problem with my Samsung X460, which for the rest is really, really good!! When I listen to BBC World Radio the sound is really very low (the same for some movies, etc, but I just listen often to BBC, that's why I can compare it with my old Toshiba laptop). Also when I increase sound to the max with the Ctrl Arrows, and at the right below on the screen. I even changed the mode into Speaker Movie Mode (control panel - sounds) and it doesn't matter much (sound becomes slightly louder, but echoing). Anybody has a lead how to solve this?

Do you have the Realtek Sound Effect Manager in Control Panel? If so, go into the equaliser, push all the bands to the top and press the button in the middle of the control on the right (so it goes green). After getting a feel for how the equaliser works then try some of the pre-set options.

Also, in the mixer control (next tab) make sure all the sliders are at the top.

Wouldn't that just boost all frequencies within the audio signal without actually increasing the volume? You might just get a lot of distortion doing this with anything outputting at full volume.
If there's an option for volume leveling in your Realtek settings, you might want to use it with this method.

It does boost everything, including the overall volume - I tried it on the NC10.

I should also mention the various volume controls obtainable by right-clicking on the volume icon in the system tray. Make sure all except the left hand one are at maximum. The left hand control is changed by using Fn+ <- and Fn + ->.

Thank you very much for the replies!! Before I only noticed the "Sound" option on the control panel. Now with Realtek it improved somewhat (thanks!!). But not much. It seems that your version is somewhat different or so, cause I only have one button which I can move to the max (it sounds like the equalizer you are speaking about has more buttons): the one next to "Main Volume" - I moved it totally to the right. Also I did not find this button which could be turned green. Maybe it's the version, or maybe it's just because I'm not so good with computers...
PS) I already put the Fn-arrow to the max, and also the volume in the task bar.

See the attached for what the equaliser looks like on the NC10. This is on the Sound Effect tab. You can see the button in the control. The symbol in the middle goes green when the equaliser is enabled.

However, I wouldn't expect too much of the X460's speakers. Samsung have done well to squeeze all that hardware into the slim chassis and the speakers may be one component where compromises were made. Headphones or some small external speakers will help.
