ok i've spend about 5hours trying to boot win7.32 off the 2nd sata port, CD connector.
the bios/EFI even see it in Sysinfo but never in Boot/Boot Priority Order

why you ask? bc i want to run win7.32 and win7.64 off two diff HDDs

    pull my org HD out
bought New 2ND Second HDD Hard Drive Caddy Adapter for DELL Latitude SATA E6320 9.5mm | eBay
install with a test 80gb HD
    Flash install win7.32 off thumb

but it won't recognize the drive as bootable to continue...

    i've:
    changed boot order
turn on/off SATA HDD in "Boot Menu"
    turn on/off SATA CD

when i put in my old HDD in Sata port 1 i can see the SATA port 2 drive. it's right there and all is usuable...

BUT I CAN'T BOOT off of it!
    any ideas?
anyone ever get this to boot off 2nd HDD in the CD location?

the phoenix bios seem like crap! is there any way to get into more advance options?

The OP has probably moved on, but others might be interested...
I basically "solved" this by installing a tiny bit of Linux on a very small partition (could feasibly be just a 1GB or even less?) on the 1st HDD. I just did this to get GRUB. Linux experts could just install GRUB into the MBR without the need of an OS to come with it, but I'm not one of them...

First you have to partition your 1st HDD (the bootable one). The first, small part for Linux the second one for Windows. Then install Windows (at least try to). It will put its ugly little boot manager on the SSD of all places, but never mind. The first time it tries to restart (and doesn't continue b/c there's no boot manager to be found), simply move on and install Linux on part 1 of HDD 1. Now you have GRUB! Be happy about it.
Boot up again and select the Windows installation that GRUB found. Continue installing Windows. Every time your lappy reboots just select Windows again (or make it the default).

Anyway, now that you have Linux on the bootable HDD you can do pretty much what you want. Install Windows on a 2nd HDD (DVD drive SATA port), put XP on the SSD (drivers are out there, methinks). None of these are bootable by themselves, but GRUB finds them. The procedure for creating new GRUB entries is very simple or you can just let it do all the work. Just google GRUB tutorial.

GRUB is a good sugestion. Also, EasyBCD is an option. There is a free version for personal use.

intent was not be forced to buy the propriety 1st HHD cable and use only the 2nd HHD (CD converted space connector).

but i have long gave up and paid ~$35 for the cable off of ebay...
    live and learn

just more respect for Dells laptops being more open and universal

I've been wondering that myself. Is it some sort of SATA to proprietary Samsung SATA clone?
