    Hey guys,

I have a x11 from Germany. I decided to put two 2gig sticks of 667 RAM into it and it sees the two sticks are seen in bios...but when it posts during boot up, it only counts 3071 megs of ram.....weak!

The vistas install fine...but the winxps (x64 and 32bit) both don't work when it boots up to go through the setup (with graphics). Same is true with different linux distros.

I have the newest the 24XJ version of the bios (for x11c model).

If there are any newer x11 bios versions out there, please let me know!

Any other type of trouble shooting would be nice,

    thanks!

    Jonathan

Edit://forgot to add that x64 XP installs fine with either stick in the comp with the other taken out.....it's NOT the ram for sure! Did a ram test too!

The X11 has the Intel 945 chipset, so it should support 2GB modules. However, which version of the 945 do you have? 945PM and 945GM can both address 4GB but the 945GMS can only address 2GB (my Sony G11 can see that I have 2.5GB but it can use only 2GB).

The BIOS needs to allocate some of the RAM to the GPU. Have you tried different settings (if available)?

However, the puzzling part is why Vista works and XP does not. Have you searched through the Microsoft hotfixes for XP for any memory-related fixes?

The MOBO can only support 2GB max stabley if you actually bother to read the spec listing for the laptop on samsungpc.com.
