    Hey guys,

So I got a refund for my previous s7 chronos that failed.

The question now is what should I buy?

I actually really like the s7 design and specs and am considering ordering the 1tb model. However I am concerned that will break too.

What alternatives are there out there for i7 laptops with similar specs. Would you buy a s7 now or wait for a refresh? What have other people purchased?

Ideally I would like an express card slot but so few laptops seem to have them.

    Thoughts?

Just compared several laptops before deciding on the Series 7. All have (for me) flaws; you just have to decide which flaws you can live with, or wait. These are my opinions, and others may and should disagree. But I didput in a bunch of research.

Sony Vaio SE: red/orange color. Other than this, I would have bought this. Also, the cpu and gpu are less powerful. Pros: light, 1080p display.

HP Envy 15: red/orange color. To me, felt badly made, crappy keyboard and tackpad. Pros: 1080p and good cpu and gpu.

Toshiba dv6t and Dell XPS 15: similar products, good-great cpu and gpu, but big and heavy. Any ugly, if that matters to you. I was surprised to find it mattered to me.

Sony F, Toshiba Qosmio 755: Like the dv6t and XPS 15, but with better cpu/gpu, but also heavier.

Lenovo Y570: didn't like the keyboard, 1366x768 display

Asus N55: bad reviews of keyboard. Plus: 1080p display. This was in the running for me.

MBP 15: expensive, gpu doesn't work great when running windows.

Dell XPS 15z: lesser gpu/cpu. I hated the keyboard.

Toshiba P755: 1366x768 display took it out of the running for me.

That was my thought process. None were perfect. For me, I would have loved the Samsung 7 with more testing, with Dell's awesome XPS 15 screen, and as light as the Sony SE. Alas.

I've been wanting one for a while, but the shortage from December to February was long enough that I'm no longer willing to buy one without improved specs. At the very minimum, I want a better processor than the i7-2675QM.

However, I'm not optimistic that anything comparable in power and style at 15" will be released before at least 3-4 months

If you can wait, then it is worth the wait, but if you need a new laptop now, then you should buy now. I have been waiting for the new series 7 for a while now, and if I buy a laptop now, I would feel like I have an outdated piece of technology.

I've had 3 HPs and I'm sick of them - not great build quality and components fail after 3-4 years.

I love the S7 except the viewing angles on the display could be a bit better. More than makes up for it in other ways though.

I agree with this, the only thing I hate about hp laptops are the actual quality of it. The fan on my hp laptop can get crazy loud and super hot too, even after I have cleaned out the laptop and apply new thermal paste.

I get the distinct impression that all of Samsung's laptop division is currently focused exclusively on the ultra types of machines. It may be a while before the next performance 15" model is released

You are quite wrong. The next model was already unveiled at CES.

Couldn't agree more, I had about 4 Dells until I decided to give HP a shot, and that laptop literally fell apart piece by piece

Getting to the point where just adding the Ivy processor won't cut it anymore for me, now I'm also going to want Windows 8.

Latest rumors are that machines with Win8 won't hit shelves until Oct.

I heard that too, I'm hoping for a similar free upgrade program like they had for whoever bought a system with Vista after a cutoff date and automatically got Windows 7 as soon as it came out

I am planning on getting the new 17 in Samsung laptop on released date, I don't really like windows 8, so I don't care that much for it anyway.
