    Hi all,

I have a series 7 chronos laptop. Its less than a year old and I havent installed anything other than Microsoft office, Norton 360, and whatever the Samsung and windows updates have told me to.

Recently ive started having errors when it boots and it tell me it needs to go into boot recovery mode or something.

I let it do that and it seems to work for a few days then when i switch it on the same thing happens.

Ive read the manual section on Restoration, but im not sure which of the restore options i should use: Basic restore, complete restore, data restore.

Appreciate some advice as im not very good at this stuff

    Thanks in advance

Two preliminary questions: (i) Have your done a thorough scan for infections? Some viruses can change core Windows files; and (ii) if you have a hard drive then check for errors ( Active SMART will look at the drive's self-diagnosis SMART data). Then I would suggest you try the Basic Restore option which is described here. This will replace all the Windows files. The complete restore (described here) replaces everything on the C drive so you will lose all your personal files unless you have backed them up. The data restore is paired with the data backup which you may want to do before proceeding further. I would also may a separate backup outside of the backup system by direct copying of folders with personal files onto a flash drive or external hard drive.

    John,

Thanks for your response. I have done a full virus scan using Norton as well as the Windows memory check (that was when my tech knowledge ran out!)

I will try the Basic Restore and see how I get on then.

    Thanks
