I've got the NP700Z5A S06-DE. AFAIK the S06 only refers to another HD than the S03 and the DE for my German keyboard layout.

Anyway, here you go enjoy !

I did receive this update via "easy software manager", it successfully installed, but the catalyst center no longer available to open up to switch the graphics method. Any ideas?

    Hi Lomex ,

I also own the german S06 version of the NP700Z5A. Is it correct that the driver update should appear in the Samsung easy software manager automatically?

    Kind regards,

Yes, that's where I got it from.

@thehun: If you are anything like me, you have installed several different versions of the Catalyst and Intel HD driver by now. You should uninstall everything before installing the new driver, especially the Catalyst driver as it has a habit of getting messed up.

I've installed the update with the 940 driver version. Using photoshop, it successfully detected the amd card and allowed me to select advanced graphics options. I just did a little love wee. I selected lower power after that and it used intel and then i went back and selected high power and reopened photoshop and it went back to amd. rejoice! (this was all on battery power too).

Thank you lomex. It's valentines day and I LOVE YOU!

going to test youtube vids now to see if it fixes crash.

Actually, it was restored to the original factory shipped condition, as far as the graphics drivers concerned. The only thing it was updated prior to this update is Windows , and the easy program manager itself.

BTW youtube 720p or higher still crashes in Chrome when unplugged, but still runs fine in IE, so no change there. So you recommending to uninstall Catalyst all together via Windows, but how do I get the new version, Samsung hasn't posted it yet.

You could just download it from the dropbox link a few posts above ;)

What's that issue with YouTube you're having? I'm just waiting for our build server and watching some videos, seems alright to me. Does it crash instantly or after a longer time?

Could also be that I'm using the dev channel release of chrome, although the beta channel release which I was using earlier didn't crash either (not using stable at any of my computers). I don't remember if I was running unplugged though.

Yes I run the stable version of Chrome, and the graphics driver crashes after about 15 seconds or so, when you playing flash video in 720p or higher, regardless of what web site. However IE is immune to this issue since day one. This only happens on battery though. There is entire thread dealing with that issue.

I just downloaded it from lomex and installed it and I can confirm that atleast MineCraft uses the AMD GPU now. It's the only OpenGL softwae I have installed atm.

If there is any specific program anyone want tried, I can install it and check.

Wow, this sounds too good to be true!

Does GPU-Z show load on the AMD card when running OpenGL applications?

Luterin: It would be great if you could try Google Earth in OpenGL mode. For me it is extremely slow when the earth is completely zoomed out, and no load is shown in GPU-Z. When running Google Earth in Direct-X mode everything works fine with load in GPU-Z and good frame rates.

    Thanks in advance,
    /Anders

Latest GPU-Z shows around 50% load on the AMD GPU when Minecraft is running in full screen windowed mode.

I will download and install Google Earth and report back shortly.

I installed Google Earth, switched it to OpenGL, and GPU-Z Shows around 20-23% GPU Load when zoomed out and spinning the earth fast.

    EDIT:
Forgot to mention, Minecraft worked with AMD and OpenGL automatically, but I had to go thu the control center and set "google earth" to high performance for it to use it, otherwise it used the Intel GPU.

    Thanks Luterin!

Can't wait to get out of work and try this. It seems that this computer just got a lot closer to perfection. Now my only problem is the sticky right-click button, but I suppose warranty should cover that.

It seems like the biggest complaint about this laptop just got resolved. So much for the "need a redesign of the motherboard" theory I read around here someplace.

I installed Rage, and I had to manually add it to CCC Switchable Graphics for it to use the AMD GPU, but then it worked just fine. But it did also work when on the Intel GPU, and it wasn't bad either. :)

The redesign of the motherboard was not about the OpenGL issue, it was about having a switch in Bios to force which GPU that was use.

Skyrim works just fine for me. Did before I updated the drivers and still do after the update. It did notice a change in the graphics configuration first time I started it after the new drivers, but otherwise its all still the same. And using AMD GPU ofcourse.

Seems to be working for me here with solidworks. Which is a huge relief. I could chug through most things with the software renderer but this is way better. Kudos to amd/samsung for getting this fix out.

Good point. I suppose fully functional manual switching through the CCC makes that option somewhat redundant anyway.

Naturally, the fix comes out just after the Rage sale on Steam which I didn't bother taking advantage of because I thought it would be a hassle to get working! Ouch. :D

Rage worked with the Intel GPU and the performance was not bad at all, very playable. Ofcourse Rage is a CRAP game to benchmark anything with, since it has a self optimizing engine where you cant really control much. And I never used Lashcats drivers. Never even downloaded them.

But yes, looks like OpenGL on the Intel GPU is working as it should now, because the Intel HD 3000 is not really a bad GPU, so I am not surprised. I was surprised earlier when MineCraft had very poor performance with Intel GPU and OpenGL, so I always suspected that OpenGL overall was broken, but it looks like its working good now. Both for Intel and AMD.

Hmm thats good news but doesnt change the fact that this computer didnt go through quality control. On of the keys on mine has sunk (still usable but come on I bought this baby a month and a half ago).
I m still going to ask for an exchange when they release a fixed version, samsung really treated us like garbage and took profit of the fact that there was no other product like this one on the market.

    ok so far:
    - Choice of GPU for OpenGL: new VGA driver CHECK
    - Wifi Performance Problem: Get Intel Chip & update driver CHECK
    - Trackpad problems: Adjust settings & get used to it CHECK
    - High End Display: Ah well, can't have everything. Good enough though FAIL

Nice summary. A high-end display would likely have increased the price a couple of hundred, which would bring it closer to the price of a MBP and therefore miss one of the target market segments for this machine.

That's going a little far. Obviously they care about QC, but when you manufacture a commoditized product like a notebook you need to get your product out the door quickly so it goes through a reasonable QC process but they won't spend weeks looking for every little problem.

Just to confirm, the applications that wouldn't run on the AMD graphics before - in my case Google Earth in OpenGL mode and Garmin BaseCamp (map viewing software) - now run perfectly on the AMD card with visible load in GPU-Z.

I suppose this is a result of AMD finally getting their act together, and I am very happy they did. I will continue using Leshcat to be able to install non-Samsung certified AMD drivers whenever they are out, provided that this OpenGL-fix is released with standard AMD drivers.

I was following this thread since i got my NP-700Z5A-S01AT, hoping for a solution for the OpenGL problem...now i am happy! I can confirm that the new driver works PERFECT and applications like Adobe After Effect use the 6750m adapter for OpenGL ! Very nice!

Installation was easy: I only downloaded the BASW-13099A33, unziped and then started the setup....after a few minutes and a reboot everthing was fine ;-)

Most companies do care about QC (or at least think for a few weeks before they start mass producing a product), dell's was always great for all the products I owned (I never had the xps products so that maybe why). And my last computer the Asus M50vn help up until I had to put it into my check in luggage and it didnt like the plan trip (lasted 3 years).
A keyboard that is sunk in one spot and a key dies after a month is a POS. The fit on this computer is bad period, sure there are worse computers but when a company advertises their product as a MBP killer you expect decent build quality.

I would expect there will still be occasions when the switching at the driver level won't behave properly. A BIOS level switch should also enable the AMD GPU to be completely switched off for best battery run time.

Guys I was going to buy Chronos 7, but waited because of the switching problems and more. Now most of the problems seem to be solved, though at some topics I saw that people said that a newer version of chronos 7 without problems will be on market in february.

What do you guys suggest for me? Buy now or wait for an fixed chronos 7?

Unless someone can confirm they got a good working Chronos 7 without the problem then sure. But you could as well wait for Ivy Bridge since it's going to be release soon in like April or late March.

Seems like my public links for dropbox got suspended for a while, didn't expect so many people to download it. I'm currently uploading the archive to another file-hoster and delete it from my dropbox, so my other stuff is accessible.

I'll put the new link here when it's done.

I received the update through the Samsung Software Manager yesterday. It's working perfectly on my NP700Z5A-S03CA. I've also noticed a massive improvement on loading and responsiveness of the CCC. Before, it was really sluggish and froze for seconds at a time.

Kudos to AMD and Samsung for the fix.
