Actually 8.950.0.0 is installed.
After deinstalling and installing 930 and 940. I got the same performance during the game with all drivers.
Never the AMD card was detected in the game options.
"I recommend low down some setting to achieve more performance."
I have already lowest possible grafic settings for the game to get 20-30fps. When installing only HD 3000 I can get 40-45fps with minimum settings.
"If you have Photoshop or other OpenGL program, just open and check those."
I think I should really test another programm, you are right.
I just found out that it's possible to look for the activity of the graphic cards with GPU-Z.
The AMD is working if I set it to "High Performance".
But the performance isn't better than with HD 3000.

Hi,
About 2 weeks ago I bought the Samsung 700Z5B-S01
Intel Core i7 2675QM
AMD HD6490M
I notice it gets too hot when playing games, especially Starcraft 2.
My main concern is that it freezes about 15 minutes into the game and it just restarts. The base is extremely hot... anyone else having this issue?
Is is normal or something to be concern about.
It´s using the Radeon 6490M
Thanks! -
. If not, then the driver is fault. What you can do in that case is reinstall completely Windows and install the correct one to see if it's fixed.
Well that true. You cannot see anything about the graphic card until you set the program to use the card. Pretty much like temp and voltage,... On another hand, AMD card should been better than HD 3000 with best configuration and driver for most applications and games. However, because of the switchable graphic, it would not work correctly since you cannot force that program to use specifically the AMD card.
Blizz games are more about CPU, so even in the case that you set High Performance, it would use more CPU than GPU. Those quad core with thin chassis are really hot. I'm getting along with that right now. Normally, without doing anything in room temperature about 23 C (or about 77 F), my laptop is about 45-55 C. At cold start is 39-40 C but suddenly it would get hot really quick. Running Chrome or some medium applications, it would stay around 55-65 C. When I ran some applications that used the AMD card, at load, it would get about 70-85 C. However, I have not seen anything up till 90 C.
I would suggest you placing the laptop on somthing like cooling pad or something that can raise the high from below, so that the air could get outside. Also, using some temp monitor softwares to log the temp when running game. If it's just about 70-80 C, then you would be fine. Otherwise, if it's greater than 90 C, then you better service it. -
I never really had any issues with heat and throttling, only when I am running WoT it seems, so I started to think and look around for sollutions, which in the end made me start to code my own tool to help with the issue.
My S7 is cooler and quiter than ever now!
I'll get back to you all soon with more info on this. Hopefully after the weekend. -
I have downloaded an application to monitor the GPU load on the system "TechPowerUp GPU-Z" and sometimes the GPU load stays at 100% but right now I made a small test having SC2 running in windowed mode and the GPU Load stayed < 75.0 however... it stilled hanged and restarted itself... this happened while the game was running and the second time while I was changing Graphics options within the game... is it normal? I'm worried the laptop has something malfunctioning and I only have around 2 more weeks to return it to the store.
This freezes and restarts only happens while running SC2... I haven't tried with other games to discard the posibility that it only happens with SC2. -

It says 520mb !
What could it mean?
Isn't there any other way to check? -
Another i7 owner... -

The other way to check the driver # is in Device Manager in the control panel. Just find the AMD device and check the properties and driver version #. -
Do not rely on Easy Software Manager as the way to know the correct driver of every component on this laptop. That software has some issues to recognize which driver is the lastest and notify which driver is available to update. So there are 2 ways to check to see the driver version of the AMD card. One is using Device Manager and right click as the AMD card, then go to Driver tab. Second method is using dxdiag to find the version on Display tab. Also, I repeat again that 8.940 is the latest official despite it has been pulled out from the support pages. You could find the link via this topic. Don't attempt to download any driver below this or newest than this. Newest driver would not compatible with the switchable or there migh be some problem after installing. So if you are not testing the new driver, I suggest you keep 8.940 until Samsung release something else.

Just test out SC 2 with automatically recommendation configuration. Most settings are not high, medium I would say. I ran 4v4 with Computers. Without battle, FPS stays at 60-70, but not stable. The average I would say is about 40-50 which is pretty decend. However, when 3 PCs plus mine attack at the same time, FPS drops down below 30. Still playable, but not really good at all. CPU temps are about 70-80 and I have cooling pad under the laptop. GPU loads in average about 60-70% with temperature at 60-70 C as 30% fan working at that time.
The card is AMD 6750M with 8.940 driver. No OC, just default core clock. Not sure about 6450M, but after this test, I would say laptop does pretty good at medium settings for most intense games. Don't bother go to Ultra or High with this on games that had intense graphic because it would cause bottleneck.
P/s: From notebookcheck, I found out that the 6450M is about 15-20% with those settings, but everyone should be able to run SC2 or game with the same graphic with the correct driver installed. -
In my opinion such a thin laptop, cooling it will not be easy. My brother played SC2 on mbp too, but it gets really hot quickly. If your going to play games with this laptop I recommend you play with lowest settings.
-
Mine runs exactly like yours in medium settings. I use the "TechPowerUp GPU-Z" to monitor GPU load, temperature, etc and the GPU load has gotten to 100% and according to the log that is when it usually freezes and restarts by itself.
I have reinstalled everything again hoping it will be fixed.
Maybe I can try using a cooling pad too...
Thanks again -

Updated 7 April 2012
Driver fix for OpenGL only, manual graphics switching still impossible
Download the new update 8.940 from Samsung website. For certain models the drivers are still not updated, so use the following link to find it.

No i didn't overvolt. It's not possible to overvolt this gpu.
Maybe it's just luck about the chip I got in my laptop. I played risen for hours and no problem. -
-
Since I upgraded to v8940, at every startup I'm getting a msg saying I should upgrade to...8930 !
Of course I could switch off all automatic upgrading, but that's not really what I want...
Anyone? -

Hi guys,
I am trying to set my laptop with two external monitors but I can't configure them so that all three are on at the same time. I can get any two working but the other won't be enabled.
I have one connected with HDMI and the other with VGA.
As far as I know the 6750 card supports multiple displays so I guess it is something with the Intel Graphics card which is the default.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
Thanks -

hello everyone. i installed vga drivers version 8.940 but i have some issues.
first autocad still uses the hd3000 and this is bothering me (solidworks works fine) and second easy software manager says i have 8.930 but if i check the graphic card properties i have 8.940.

Possible news:
I called Samsuck today (with intentions of quoting the problem with my new series 7 laptop and requesting a refund) and they told me that it's a known issue, and that they are in the late debugging stage of creating the fix, and that the update to fix it will be distributed soon via Samsung Easy Software. Anyone else heard this? -
-
I was asking them about the switchable graphics issue. He couldnt give me an exact date on the release of the update, but he said they were very close to distributing it. Anyone else care to call support to confirm?
-
Anyone want to call?
-
Is this update only for US people, or for the rest of the world, too?
-
-
Why not just call and find out?
Also, I called again today. I seem to get more information everytime I call. Today they said that the 8.94 VGA AMD driver will be placed on their website under this laptop when it is ready, and it will be the fix. I know 8.94 drivers are available elsewhere, but apparently they have not released the 8.94 for this particular model yet, and when it does, switchable graphics should work correctly.
Please, call their customer support so that we A) get more knowledge and B) impress upon them how important it is to us that our laptops work correctly! -
Also, bear in mind that everytime you call or chat with Samsung supporter, they would not be the same guy. Most of them are trained to tell you that they're on their way to get the fix out, but they could not tell you what and when. They are only supporter, not the tester that test those fix, so they could not know which particularly will be out. -

Does anybody have a clue why Samsung removed the 8.94 driver from there website? I was fortunate enough to install for that short period when it was up, and have been running it since with absolutely zero issues. The only annoying thing is that software manager keeps insisting that I "upgrade" to 8.93. duh.
-
But the current 8.940 drivers works very well for me, so I don't consider this to even be an issue anymore. -
Wait, so the switchable graphics works for you with 8.94? Can you still get it anywhere?
-
-
Just use the link from the very first post: http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...02/20120228191136307/VGA_AMD_8.940.0.0000.ZIP

With 8.94, switchable graphics seem to work as advertised. At least after updating to 8.94, graphics programs that I specify to use the ATI card in Catalyst Control Center do in fact use it.
