I just downloaded and installed the latest firmware for my Series 7 Chronos 15.6" laptop. Anyone have any clue what it fixes? I can't tell if anything was fixed after installing it. According to the file name of the update, it was released 12/5/2011.

Here is the download link for the firmware for those who don't have it.
    http://sbuservice.samsungmobile.com/upload/BIOSUpdateItem/ITEM_20111205_337_WIN_10FD.exe

You can also get it by installing the Samsung Bios Update Utility program from the Samsung Series 7 Chronos page. That program just checks for the latest bios update and then installs it.

Yeah also installed it, also installed the previous 09FD.
Only thing I noticed from 03 to 09/10 is that the brightness sensor is faster/more sensitive.
But I disabled it anyway after testing so no changes for me^^

Just installed it aswell, didn't notice anything different, but only checked really quick. Perhaps it's related to things like those who get BSOD when playing videos on battery etc?

No real changelog - I did Live Chat with Samsung and they were completely clueless. Kept telling me the latest BIOS update is dated August 2011. :|

I wouldn't comdemn them all. I suspect they are hampered by an internal system which doesn't provide them with enough information.

    BIOS updated to 11FD.

I think i've spotted a change: when there's a sufficient light, the keyboard is not backlit anymore, and if you hide the light sensor with your finger, the backlit come back.

    Is it just me ?

No, it's not just you. But a fun fact is that if it's completely dark in the room the backlight doesn't turn on either, and covering the sensor hole doesn't help, but turning the screen down towards the hole so some light gets in there does. Funny... :)

I must say samsung really did something wrong with this computer. Even the bios is a sorry piece of ...

There must be something wrong. I did update to 12FD through BiosUpdater and everything is perfect. Although there is no modification at all on this one, I pretty sure it just like a bug fixed or maintenance.

Try to download only. Then restart computer to verify the Bios version. After that, go back to Windows and select the file to update. You might need to close some unnecessary processes because sometimes they can conflict with the bios updater software.

Changes in 11FD are made for a better system stability. Seen on the german support page.

Cant flash in safe mode as it says that it requires easy display setting.
What the hell was samsung thinking when they had this bios built?

Between the ati card and this crappy bios/ motherboard i'm really enjoying the samsung experience

Why would you do Bios Update in Safe Mode. Safe Mode intentionally for fixing problem with Windows. Most application won't run in Safe Mode, so you need to do that in Normal boot. There is no requirement for Bios Update. There must be something else that requires Easy Setting.

Try to disable "Disable execute Bit" within Bios, then update should work.

Interesting, can you post a link please? :D

Interesting for me, this easy software manager software said to me that 11FD is the newest bios. When I use the BiosUpdater downloaded from the US Website then I can download 12FD.
In my opinion the easy software manager is holy crap. ;-)

Whoa, just updated BIOS to 13FD via Samsung Software Manager. No noticeable changes, at least for the all-important graphics issue.

There will never be a bios fix for the current generation S7 that fixes the switchable graphics. It is impossible due to current hardware limitations, so no need to install new bioses if that is what you are hoping for.

But isn't that the point of an update? Something was broken, or at least not quite right, and now it is better, so the developers made an update. Ergo, though I didn't realize it, my old bios was maybe a secretly broken. I just hadn't come across the conditions that revealed the break. And now, with the update, hopefully my machine is less likely to break in the future.
It is like preventative maintenance. Why should I change the oil in my car if my car is running fine?

In a perfect world perhaps, but this isn't a perfect world, and the computer business especially so.

I never update any firmware or drivers unless I feel that it's needed, and I seem to have alot less problems than those that update firmware and drivers as soon as they get the chance...

If it works, why try to fix it? Chances are that you will just break something. Especially when it comes to computers.

There is no change from 10 to 11 or 12 or even 13. We don't know what inside of those BIOS. So if your laptop is working fine, then you don't need to update. If you want to try, just be careful and read all the instruction first before doing anything.

Samsung seriously needs to post a changelog. That is expected and standard for most manufacturers.
