    Hello there Notebook Review community!

I've just began having an issue with my laptop speakers and came here in search of aid.

So earlier today I was playing a game on my laptop (which sits comfortably on a large wooden table) and everything was fine. I decide to quit the game to give my laptop a rest (and to quit procrastinating from my assignments) and go to make some food. I was only gone for about 5-10 minutes and upon returning I noticed that my speakers had stopped working.

    Some things to note...

    • I'm running Windows 8.1 - yeah, bad move, I know, but I assumed reputable companies like Samsung and Intel would have things under control =.=
    • Headphones work perfectly fine whilst plugged into the headphone jack.

    Things I've tried so far...

    • Updating & uninstalling/reinstalling drivers.
    • Checked whether I had accidentally muted the speakers.
    • Check to see if primary sound device had reassigned itself.
    • Checked that nothing was plugged into the headphone slot.
    • Updated my video-card drivers.
    • Disabled/Re-enabled my speakers.

This is the first time I've felt the need to approach a forum to request assistance as I'm completely stumped at what's causing the problem. Initially I thought the drivers may have crashed so I restarted the system but no avail. The laptop is still relatively new so I hope the speakers aren't damaged which would be the worst case scenario although I can't see how that could have happened as no-one else was in the room and the laptop was in a safe position. I will continue to hunt for a solution but any assistance is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

EDIT 1 : Checked for recent Windows updates - 1 installed a few hours before the problem occurred but it was for Windows Defender - but I doubt that this is likely to be the cause.

Did you try pushing the reset button in the bottom cover to disconnect the battery? That should reset all devices...

    Thanks for your reply.

No, I'm quite new to laptops, this is my first in fact.
I'm assuming that I should power down the laptop before doing this?

Yes, it is like pulling the battery. Also, you should do that without the A/C plugged in.
On my 900X3F this made the bluetooth and wifi work again after having issues with the device.

That's unfortunate... You may try booting a recent Ubuntu live image from an USB device to check if the hardware is still working. If that works, you will have to do a factory recover unless someone else has another idea regarding windows or driver issues.
Also, you may check the realtek settings in the system Control Center for some settings, like spdif only for example.
