I have a Series 7 laptop that I got a couple of months ago and SW Update does not work on it. I have even tried reinstalling it. It runs fine, tells me I have updates, but all the updates fail to install. It has updated itself fine a couple of times. Recovery fails to update, wireless lan driver fails to update, BIOS says it is for a different model. I even did a full recovery to factory and it still does the same thing, I am pulling my hair out. Any ideas?

What happens if you use the "Find Model" option, then save the setup files and then try to install from those?
John -
Same thing is happening to me with the Bios update. Using "find model" I don't see an option for a bios download.

@RangerDanger: I am wondering if SW Update detects your model incorrectly and downloads drivers and updates for a different model, which are not compatible with yours. In what way do the installations fail? Do you get a message?
You can use the Save feature to save the updates which SW Update is offering locally; OR you can use the Find Model feature that John described to look up your model (or any model) then use the Export feature to save the drivers locally.
Still, you shouldn't have to, and there has to be an underlying cause. I'd say if this happens even immediately after a Factory Restore, without you making any system changes, I would consider giving Samsung a call about it. -

Use the link in this post to get the stand-alone BIOS Update program. It's a lot more reliable that doing a BIOS update using SW Update.

Has anyone managed to flash this successfully either with SW update or using the standalone tool? Neither have worked for me.

According to this discussion (and the following few posts) in the main thread for this model there's a mis-match in the BIOS numbers, which is a mistake by Samsung. They've either put the wrong number in the new BIOS update or are linking to the wrong package.

I reported this to Samsung Canada by their email support. I'd encourage others to send a few messages their way, or if you have time, give their support line a call (as painful as that is likely to be).

Thanks. Hopefully they will quickly verify the problem and send it on to Korea for urgent attention.

I hope the carrier pigeons from Canada to Korea are really well fed and fleet of wing.

LOL
That captured almost exactly my own reaction when I saw John's post -- although I never formulated it quite as eloquently

I'm having that same issue. I reported it to samsung, but have heard nothing.
new BIOS update from SW ,loads then says [failed-10], it shows the bios as:
current version : 870Z5E(ABU)
new version : 870Z5E(ADH)
I have to assume someone transposed some numbers between the 780 and the 870 to signal an update? I have the 780z5e, so I have to assume, until I hear back, the bios update wasn't meant for my model? -

Perhaps the other approach, for those on Facebook, is to spam Samsung's Facebook page and embarrass them into taking prompt action to fix what is obviously a mistake.
John -
There appears to be a new bios file being provided by the standalone bios update program that is dated today. Testing it now. Will report back.

Good news - it's fixed. Bios flashed to version P04ABU! The file has been fixed.
